“Hey, man,” Steve says and sounds as calm as Neil. “Let him go. Or don’t because he’s serious about the—about the fist—hey, Hop? Hop!”
Billy and Neil glance over and see Hopper rounding the house in a full sprint. His hands are muddy, and his jeans are wet at the knees, but he doesn’t slow down. Neil lets Billy go, and Billy steps away just in time because Hopper is full steam ahead and with one fist into Neil’s face, he rockets him straight into the grass.
They watch him drop like a lead weight.
Steve holds his hand over his mouth, his other arm in the air, and Billy stares.
Billy never thought he’d breathe in fresh air and freedom like this. Never thought he’d find love from parents or that he could ever open up to somebody the way he has with Steve. Or have a best friend like Robin, who looks at him and knows, no matter what it is.
He’s content and he’s not sure he can ask for anything better than that.
(or, the one where billy got kicked out, hopper found him, billy was held hostage for a while. before he knew it, he'd called joyce and hopper's house his home)
