As a child, Hwayoung never liked playing with dolls. Sangah once said that is why Hwayoung is so strange now, because she never tried to play out the lives of other people as a child. Hwayoung thinks differently, that something else made her become strange, but she hasn't worked out just what that is.
Regardless of the fact Hwayoung never played with dolls, she can't deny that she likes playing dress-up.
Whilst at work, her character is frumpy and invisible. She's an outcast who nobody else is interested in… Aside from Oh Injoo.
Injoo hasn't taken her outcast status well. Four years of being looked down upon and excluded should have worn her down, but Hwayoung is relieved that isn't the case. As innocent as she is, Injoo's resilience is refreshing. Hwayoung could drink it all in, day after day, and never be fully satisfied. She knows that Injoo always has so much more to give. Even now, after admitting how desperately she needs money and being denied a request, she's prattling on about tulle dresses and infantile aspirations.
Hwayoung can only smile. Injoo is cute.
Right now Injoo is wearing a long tulle skirt and a thin little beige cardigan. The gaudy brooch can be ignored if Hwayoung tries hard enough. Injoo is cute even like this. Both of them look so different outside of work and Hwayoung is giddy with the prospect of the two of them being different people here.
Hwayoung never played with dolls but she has always loved dressing up. Hwayoung dresses up herself and she dresses up Injoo too. Bruno Zunimo high heels, a crystal-coated strap resting exquisitely over the top of Injoo's foot, a navy military-style blazer worn over the shoulders, and removing the ugly brooch. Like this, Injoo looks chic. Like this, Hwayoung can see the hidden petals that are soon to bloom.
Injoo is so much more than she realises. Hwayoung is glad of the excuse to see her like this. The two of them are still dressed up as people other than themselves, but Hwayoung feels closer to seeing the real Injoo
