Inuyasha huffed in irritation while making a path from his nervous pacing in front of their house, his arms crossed and head down. "She's been gone forever! How long can a baby take?!" He muttered to himself. That's when he smelled something familiar but not surprising as it was the man's wife giving birth right now. He looked upwards and watched as Sesshomaru flew high in the sky but something seemed off about him. Where was he going while his wife was in labor? And why? The man was far enough away that Inuyasha could barely see the bundles his older brother carried, let alone recognize what they were.
His head quickly turned as a different, much more welcomed scent filled his nostrils and caused his ears to wiggle enthusiastically. He hurried to meet Kagome with his arms casually tucked into his sleeves. She smiled at his excitement of her return and silently pictured a silver tail wagging excitedly behind him. 'Just like a puppy. How cute!' She thought to herself, though she could never tell him that out loud.
"Everything okay?" He asked with concern. She frowned.
"To be honest I'm not sure. The birth went very well. Rin had twin girls! She and the babies seem to be doing well!" He looked at her confused with a small head tilt and an eyebrow raised.
"Okaaaayyyyy....." He said slowly and expectantly waited for her to explain.
"But then..." Kagome paused and looked down as she thought about the events just minutes earlier. "Sesshomaru came in and swooped the babies up then flew away with them. He didn't even say why he did it." His eyes widened at the realization. That's what he sensed earlier.
"What?! Why though? Even for him that's pretty drastic. Surely Rin protested!" Kagome shook her head.
"No. she didn't. She just said 'I trust Lord Sesshomaru completely' and that was it. Something is wrong, I know it is. I just can't figure out what!" She frowned with a hand on her bump. He hated seeing her so worried and upset. Inuyasha moved closer to her and wrapped his arms around her shoulders in a loving embrace.
"Let's not worry about it right now, I doubt it's good for the baby." He said in a thoughtful, quiet voice while resting his chin on the top of her head and a hand gently ran through her hair. She quickly relaxed against him.
"I guess you're right. I can't help but feel sorry for Rin though. I can't imagine how much that must have hurt to see her new born babies whisked away like that."
"And I can't imagine just suddenly taking our child away without at least telling you why. What the hell is he thinking? That bastard!" He growled. Kagome looked up him with a bright smile.
"It's sweet how much you've come to care for Rin!" He made a huffing sound and blushed.
"I got no idea what you're talking about woman..." He said stubbornly. She sighed thinking about Rin and how she must be feeling.
"I don't ever want to be in that situation, to be separated from our baby."
"As if I'd ever let that happen while I'm alive!" He said with a passionate fire in his voice. "I made a vow to protect you with my life and that extends to our kid too. If anyone touches either of you, they better kill me or be prepared for what's coming for them."
"That goes both ways, you know..." She replied and pushed away to look up at him. He made a small surprised noise in response. "I won't let anyone touch you either."
"Well then I guess our baby has some pretty great body guards, huh?" She giggled and snuggled into his chest. Inuyasha hugged her tighter, both feeling lucky to be together.
