Lumine and Xiao sat shoulder to shoulder as they looked over across Qingyun peaks, they made it a ritual at this point to sit like this together at least once a week. While they were together most of the time it was usually fighting or helping Lumine with commissions. They never fully stopped unless it was to sleep, even if Xiao denied every actually sleeping. Lumine wasn’t stupid though she knows he actually does even if it significantly less.
They had decided to take a break after the last commission they did after it didn’t go exactly to plan. Lumine accidentally got slightly hurt and got told by Xiao or more like commanded to go sit down, she only agreed on the terms that he would join her. Xiao had rolled his eyes at the time reminding her that he would have just sat down with her anyways.
That had been a couple of hours ago now and they are still sitting enjoying each others company. Lumine had her hands joined with his just watching as the sun was finally setting, apart from the occasional “I love you” or Xiao asking if she is still feeling okay. It was comfortable they both enjoyed being able to be peaceful and not having to keep up a strong act like they did with other people.
For the past half hour Lumine had felt herself getting quickly more tired, it started with her limbs slowly going numb and now she felt her eye lids start to droop slightly. She knew Xiao had started to realize when he had brought his other arm around her waist pulling her closer. She had started leaning on his shoulder more burying her face in the crook of his neck.
Xiao brought his hand up to her head, slowly combing his hand through her golden hair. She found that as soon as he started doing that she could no longer fight the overwhelming feeling as she finally let herself fall asleep on his shoulder.
Xiao looked down at her with a fond smile he knew what he was doing when he started doing that. It was as if the that action was her off button, he found that out a while back when he did it for the first time. He remembers how she had slumped against him for the first time, it startled him back then but now he did it on purpose.
Xiao never thought he would care for someone’s well being so much as he does Lumine’s. As much as he pesters him to look after him he always found himself doing the same for her. When they first started to get to know each other it was always her asking if he gets enough sleep or eats enough but now it was mainly the reverse.
Xiao quickly found out that Lumine doesn't show herself nearly as much care as she does to other people. She tends to skip meals if she has commissions or stays up days on end to help other people, it drove Xiao half mad trying to get her to sit and take care of her well being. But he likes to think he had made progress in the area since they officially got together.
The fact that he managed to get her to rest after getting only slightly injured was one show of major progress in of its self. If that had happened a mere month ago she would have told him to shove the idea up his arse and continued on. But instead all she requested was he sit with her which he nearly took offence to the fact she thought he might leave her alone, until he reminded himself that he does have a tendency to do that exact thing.
Xiao smiled down at his sleeping girlfriend then back at the sky, it was nearly fully dark now. Realizing that the temperature would soon drop and most likely disrupt Lumine's peaceful slumber, he carefully manoeuvred himself to scoop her up bridal style careful not to wake her up.
Quickly he teleported back to their room at Wangshu inn, he looked down at her as soon as they landed begging to the archons that it didn’t disturb her. Despite the fact he knew that she was a deep sleeper he was still overly paranoid after all she needed her rest.
Gently he placed her on her side of the bed tucking her in comfortably, he should most likely wake her to make sure she changes into something a big more comfortable but he decided she would be fine for one night. It’s not like she hadn’t slept in far worse conditions before.
After he made sure he finally got her into a decent enough position to sleep in he finally got changed and joined her himself. Xiao knew Lumine knows he lied about the fact he doesn't need much sleep. It didn’t take a genius to realize that he needs it, it was just at the time he wasn’t overly keen on sleeping.
After all everyone knows your deepest darkest memory's always come to the surface when you least expect it. Especially when you are peacefully sleeping, it is why Xiao used to barely sleep. Why he taught himself to manage on zero sleep weeks at a time. But then Lumine came along and suddenly his dreams were changed to a much calmer experience.
As if she was a magic ball of purity and kindness she showed him that with her by his side no dark dreams could get to him. He never admitted to her this, he most likely wont for a while but he likes to think she secretly knows the impact she has made on him.
He looks over at her across from him, her features soft and relaxed making him smile. Xiao leaned over quietly as possible and gave her a soft kiss on the forehead, “Goodnight my sweet Lumine” He whispered, she may never hear it but he says it every night anyways.
