Memories Of Us

Summary:

Mumei is alone in the morning and she can't stop thinking of her girlfriend.

Hi, it's been a while and this is definitely not me coming back to daily writing or even occasional writing. I just wanted to write some Kronmei fluff.

Hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

The routines in their lives were established from the beginning of their relationship… back when they were just roommates trying to survive college life with all the exams, parties and drama between students.

Kronii was always the first one to wake up and to leave while Mumei would be snoozing away, ignoring her alarms that reminded her that she was supposed to be in class. When the afternoon classes were over, Kronii would walk back to her room and be greeted by the sight of her roommate already there and busying herself with a game or a manga in her lap.

“Hi!” The brunette would greet her every time in the same way, managing to remove her gaze and attention from what she was doing and focusing on the taller girl.

“Hey… you hungry?” The question she asked was also the same, followed by a drop of her bag as she would sit down on her bed.

They weren’t sure on how they had become friends considering how little time they would actually spend together, but as soon as they had confirmed that they were, indeed, friends… they would find the time to do things together: their routines expanded as they would make time for lunches together, game nights and movie weekends.

They realized they were in love only when their lips locked for the first time.

And as time passed their relationship grew stronger, which was surprising for the people around the couple, but Kronii and Mumei didn’t really bother with the folks talking about them.

“Mhm…” Mumei mumbled sleepily as she rolled to the side and opened her tired eyes, staring at the digital clock that showed the passing of time.

Mornings started without her, but Mumei couldn’t really bother to wake up early. She stretched her tired arms as she slowly got up from the comfy king-sized bed before heading towards the bathroom to wash herself.

As she brushed her teeth, she stared at the bathroom’s sink, seeing another toothbrush resting on its holder after being used. She couldn’t help but crack a small smile at the rather normal-looking object before continuing her routine. When she was clean and slightly more awake (which wasn’t really much) she headed towards the kitchen.

She could immediately tell that someone went through here as the sight of the multitude of pans and dirty utensils made her pout.

“I can’t believe it- she didn’t even wash them with water! Ugh… I swear, when she gets home I will-“ Her rant was stopped instantly as her eyes landed on a plate filled with pancakes full of blueberries and a beautiful white tulip in a glass vase in front of it. She stepped over to the table were the items had carefully been placed and noticed an envelope resting next to the ceramic plate.

“’Thought you might enjoy something different than plain cereals with milk, enjoy your morning! Love… Kronii.” Mumei read the message to herself as a soft blush graced her cheeks and, almost instantly, her annoyance over the dirty dishes washed away in a moment: It wasn’t that many pans anyway.

She sat at the table and ate her breakfast with a bigger smile than usual, tasting the love that had been poured into the meal and loving every bite. With her tummy full and now fully energized, she decided to clean up all of the plates. As the sponge scrubbed away at the bits of food left on the plates, the girl couldn’t help but wonder where Kronii had gone.

A quick check on the calendar confirmed that it was indeed a Sunday: that meant that Kronii hadn’t left for work… so why was she out?

“Maybe she had to get something from the supermarket.” That was the only answer that the brown-haired girl could come up with. However, she couldn’t deny that she was somewhat disappointed by the lack of morning cuddles and time spent together with her lover. Mumei would usually spend her Sundays playing videogames with Kronii or going on dates with the taller girl, sometimes their friends would visit them or organize parties that they would attend together… but today things seemed like they were going on a different direction.

As soon as the dishes were clean, Mumei pondered her next course of action.

She didn’t really want to go out today and since Kronii was clearly not at home, she wasn’t sure what she was supposed to be doing.

And so, she started roaming around the house: she wasn’t sure why suddenly their home became so interesting but she couldn’t remove her sight from all the different objects and pieces of furniture around the place.

Strutting around the place she remembered of the time they actually bought the place. One September they were visiting the place and a couple of months later they had settled in the new house, their house. They had even thrown a party to celebrate and Mumei was so excited to be able to show her new place to all their friends.

“Oh my god, I forgot!” Suddenly, Mumei remembered something very dear to her.

Walking through the living room she found a photo album next to the fireplace, slightly worn out after many years of using but still in good conditions.

She grabbed it gingerly and walked towards the sofa, resting the heavy object on her legs. With excitement she opened the album and immediately her heart filled to the brim with nostalgia as she glanced at the pictures of her and Kronii’s past. She had gotten it back in her college days to document her school experience but soon became an important piece filled with loving memories.

The first photo she ever took of Kronii, who at the time didn’t really being photographed by anyone and was simply staring annoyed in the camera as she stood in front of her bed.

A photo of her and Bae hanging out and drinking some coffee in a cold winter morning before classes.

A cute little polaroid taped on a page with her and Kronii at one of those photo boots and decorated with silly hearts and dumb stickers.

A photo taken by Sana when they visited Canada all together, her and Kronii holding hands in the picture as they smiled.

There were hundreds if not thousands of pictures inside the album, yet Mumei payed close attention to each and every single one of them. She noticed how in the pictures they looked different to how they were now but despite their changes in appearance… they were still somewhat the same people they were then.

“Man, Kronii has never been able to maneuver a camera…” Mumei muttered with a smirk on her lips as she glanced at the messy and out of focus pictures that her girlfriend clearly took (and by coincidence, Mumei was the subject for all of them) “At least she isn’t here to hear me-“

“Oh I heard everything perfectly, my dear Mumei.” A voice spoke behind Mumei as the girl immediately turned around wide-eyed and glanced into her girlfriend’s eyes.

“Kronii! I didn’t hear you come in!” Despite the sofa blocking her, Mumei managed to wrap her arms around her girlfriends neck, nuzzling her face in her collar.

“I see someone missed me.” The taller girl commented with the tiniest of smiles, hugging her lover back before giving her a kiss that melted Mumei’s heart. “Also it’s not my fault I’m not good with photos.” She then added after she separated from her girlfriend’s lips.

“The mighty Kronii, so perfect in every little thing-“

“I know, hard to believe that I could not be good in something, right?” The two girls laughed for a moment before Mumei’s attention was brought back onto her girlfriend. “Where did you go?” She asked, a hint of curiosity showing in her eyes.

Kronii looked at her with a tease, as if knowing that her girlfriend missed her. “Well, Mumei… I visited Sana at the bakery-“

“Oh my god you didn’t-“

“I did.” Kronii smiled as she put a paper bag onto the sofa, the smell of fresh bread and sweets hitting Mumei’s nose.

“I know that you already ate breakfast, but I thought we could eat some of Sana’s pastries while we cuddled on the couch and watched some TV… but I guess watching the photo album is way more entertaining, don’t you think?” Kronii proposed to the shorter girl and, hearing that, Mumei immediately moved to the side to make space for her girlfriend.

Soon the two girls sat next to eachother and, for the rest of the morning, they enjoyed a trip down memory lane, knowing that the album still had empty pages that they would fill together.
