Work Text:

Ryan and Min-Gi had been dating for around two months now.

It’s good! Of course it’s good, better than good even, it’s just still something neither of the pair are particularly used to. They both know the feeling is mutual, or at least Ryan hopes they both know, but jumping from best friends to boyfriends after knowing the other for what feels like an entire lifetime is certainly an adjustment.

Min-Gi had never really been known to be touchy, so any sort of physical affection initiated by him was pretty much off the table. And that’s fine, really, Ryan understood he’d always been more verbal than physical. It was a great trait to have when it came to songwriting, honestly, their band wouldn’t be nearly as poetic if it weren’t for his tweaking.

But it’s not really something Ryan is used to, romance wise.

He’s always been the kind of guy to rush lips first into relationships, showing affection through his actions and only using his words when the worst finally happens and he’s forced to confront the fact it’s not working out. His partners thus far have been the same, using him mostly for his touch and not his eloquence, and he can’t exactly blame them, considering the second he opened his mouth in any previous relationships it was obvious his heart wasn’t in it. He’s never felt any need to be committed until this point. He’s never felt this much pressure.

So, the whole thing is a bit new for both of them.

The cold weather has been slowly creeping in for a while now, meaning their nights of sleeping in the van are close to none. Neither of the pair are particularly fond of catching hypothermia, shockingly. This has led to what feels like constant motel rooms, cheap and weirdly sticky, but at least they almost always have some sort of heating. Almost.

Their funds at the moment aren’t exactly the greatest due to their constant need of motel rooms, so Ryan had to swallow his pride and ask if Min-Gi wouldn’t mind sharing a single bed. To save money, of course. He agreed with no hesitation. Why wouldn’t he? They’ve shared beds before, obviously, they’ve known each other since before they could remember.

But things have definitely changed since then. Things were at least a tiny bit different.

The first thing Ryan realised upon stepping into the weirdly green room was that, yes, this room was definitely not designed with two basically fully grown men in mind. He asked for a single bed. He received a single bed. What a plot twist! What a shocker! Ryan didn’t even need to look at Min to know he was grimacing.

“Well, it’s definitely a room!” Ryan basically shouted as if he were some world famous comedian and not just some guy in a crummy room with an audience of one.

“Yeah, it’s so… so cosy. Love it.”

Min-Gi did not sound impressed. Ryan had a sneaking suspicion that he did not love it.

“Biggest beaut money can buy, only the best for my favourite rockstar!” Ryan knew how much Min-Gi hated it when he called him that. He’s a great boyfriend.

Ryan turns his head and is met with a face of pure disgust. He knew it.

“Never say that again. Let’s just get this night over with.” Min said whilst untying his shoes and gently laying his suitcase next to the bed. Ryan followed suit, just slightly less elegantly.

Somehow, with even less elegance than known to be possible, Ryan slammed himself onto the bed. He was exhausted. Cut him some slack.

He didn’t move as he listened to Min-Gi unzip his suitcase and brush his teeth and whatever else he was doing. He didn’t move as he heard Min-Gi zip back up his suitcase and shuffle around the room. He didn’t move as he felt the mattress dip down and the sheets pull slightly.

After approximately five minutes of laying somewhat uncomfortably at an angle that’ll surely cause permanent damage to his spine, the lights finally turned off, confirming Min-Gi had finally finished his slightly excessive nighttime routine and joined Ryan in their totally big enough for two grown men bed.

Five minutes after that, Ryan broke his astounding vow of silence. A new record.

“Min, I’m not going to lie to you. I’m gonna be real. I am freezing my tits off.”

Min-Gi had to agree. There was no way Min-Gi didn’t agree. Did this room even have heating? Ryan had a sneaking suspicion they didn’t. Or maybe he just had the worst heat retention possible.

“Just a bit cold. A little tiny bit.”

He definitely agreed.

The thing is, Ryan isn’t dumb. He knows a very obvious solution to this problem. If they weren’t dating, there would be a solid chance he would already be in the process of putting this solution into action. But they are dating, which makes everything feel like it means a lot more than it needs to.

Apparently, Ryan’s self restraint is nowhere near good enough for him to consider this for any longer than three seconds though. The suggestion was already spoken before he had a chance to overthink it.

“I mean, we could like, cuddle or something if you want? Could definitely help with the heat problem, I guess.”

Why did it sound so lame coming from his mouth?

He felt Min shift slightly under the covers, probably from discomfort. He could’ve been so much smoother than that. Ryan really wishes he was the one with eloquence sometimes.

“Oh, uh. Yeah. Sure.”

Okay! Nevermind! Ryan was so good with words. He might as well be Shakespeare or any other writer people automatically compare others to. Perhaps he’s even better. Not the best, obviously, that goes to Min-Gi and his lyricism. But he doesn’t count right now.

Surprisingly softly, at least for him, Ryan turned himself around to face Min-Gi. He was avoiding eye contact. Hard. That’s fine! He can still see the obvious blush on his cheeks. Actually, he’s glad he’s avoiding eye contact, so he can pretend he’s not embarrassed over the fact they are definitely matching. Ryan never gets embarrassed. He is so normal about everything. He’s so good at this.

As smooth as he possibly could, Ryan loosely wrapped his arm around Min’s waist. Min, slightly less smoothly, slightly more stilted, infinitely more embarrassed, placed his head right against Ryan’s chest and copied the placement of Ryan’s arm over his waist. He was definitely warmer now.

“Goodnight, Min.” Ryan said into his hair, the vibrations of his throat slightly shaking next to Min-Gi’s face. Ryan had never been good with self restraint at the best of times, and with their bodies this close it was even worse. He couldn’t help himself. Gently, he placed a light kiss into the mess of Min-Gi’s hair.

He knew his boyfriend would be embarrassed by it, he didn’t even need to look, but it definitely helped his self esteem a little when he felt Min’s mouth twitch into a smile against his chest.
