Work Text:
Aled Last is on the asexual spectrum and identities as demisexual. For ace week he is making a special podcast episode with his boyfriend Daniel Jun.
Aled hadn’t experienced any crushes or attraction until he fell for Daniel. When Daniel had first kissed him he flinched. However after kissing a couple of times he began to see Daniel the same way Daniel saw him.
“How did you realise you were demisexual?” Daniel asks.
“Well at first I thought I was aroace. Then after we kissed a couple of times and I enjoyed it. I realised I was demisexual.”
“How do you deal with aphobic attitudes?”
“I think it’s important for there to be more awareness of asexuality and aromanticism in general. I deal with because I understand that people are ignorant about it and generally are well-meaning. Sometimes I think it’s easier to come out as gay than an ace or aro identity.”
“I agree. When I came out to my friends and family as gay they were supportive and understanding. However school was difficult and I found it hard to cope.”
“That’s why we kept our relationship at school and that’s probably why Charlie and Nick did too.”
The podcast episodes gains lots of listeners and new followers. Aled gets offered interviews for Stonewall and Attitude Magazine. He turns them down but offers them exclusive statements instead. There’s still a long way to go in combating aphobia but this a good start.
