“Johnny,” Scott sighed, sort of fond but also like a curse all at once. “Do you really think we would organise something that you’d hate?”
“Not knowingly.”
Scott turned to face him. "It’s not just my plan. All of us helped organise this. I feel like between us we know you pretty well. Even Brains chipped in with an idea. Look, even if you don’t want to celebrate your birthday, come along for the family time.”
“So, it is a birthday celebration?”
“Don’t pretend like you didn’t already know that. You’ll enjoy this weekend, okay? Just… Trust me?”
Or: John has never been a party person. Thankfully his family know him well enough to throw him a celebration that he'll actually like... even if it happens to be on the other side of the world.
