Summary:

For the third day of BKDK Halloweek '22! Prompts: Movie Night/ Hot Cocoa

Izuku just wanted to watch an All Might movie. He isn't sure why that made his classmates so angry. Fortunately, his Kacchan is there to save the day and bring him some exciting revelations to go with his famous hot cocoa.

Work Text:

“No Midoriya, we are not watching another All Might movie this week.”

Izuku fought back a pout as Iida scolded him, hands chopping through the air. It was the class’s bi-weekly movie night tomorrow, and, like usual, everyone was asked what they’d like to watch. Izuku had just answered truthfully, like he thought he was supposed to.

Apparently, he’d thought wrong.

He gets it. He’s a bit of a hero fan boy, and more than a bit of an All Might fan boy, but he really didn’t understand why Iida was being so adamant about this, calling him out in front of the entire class, or why everyone was glaring at him like he’d just asked them to sell their souls to the devil with his suggestion.

He also didn’t understand why Iida had told him that they weren’t going to watch “another” All Might movie. He made it sound like they watched them all the time. Izuku had only ever got to pick one movie night, and he hadn’t even picked one about All Might then. Tsu and Uraraka had been talking about a Romantic Comedy they had been dying to watch, so Izuku had been a good friend and suggested it.

They had never watched an All Might movie on movie night. The more he thinks about it, he’s not even sure they’ve ever watched a hero movie on movie night.

The only reason he’d brought it up this time was because there had been a re-make of one of his favorite childhood movies. He had been so excited when he’d seen the news article, and the thought of the remake had him feeling a little nostalgic. He’d watched the original until the DVD had worn out with Kacchan when they were younger. He thought it might be nice to watch the newer version together now.

Especially since he and Kacchan were better. Or at least Izuku thinks they were better. They had slowly started rebuilding their friendship from the ground up, and, sure, Kacchan was still Kacchan. Izuku didn’t think there was any changing that. But he’d started talking to him more frequently—actually talking, not yelling—and they’d even taken to doing most of their homework together.

Kacchan said that he was the only one in the class that didn’t make him feel like he was losing braincells, to which Izuku would respond with a laugh and a “that’s mean, Kacchan!” But, truthfully, he had to agree just a little. It was difficult to study with his other classmates, even the smarter ones like Iida and Momo. They were smart yes, but they just didn’t get the way Izuku thinks. Kacchan did though. Kacchan always understands him.

Which is why they also did all of their training together now. Its not that Izuku’s classmates didn’t work hard—they did! It’s just that he and Kacchan have the same kind of drive. Its…different. Izuku doesn’t know how to explain it, but it has led to early morning runs and late-night sparring sessions. And, of course, since they would get back so late, Kacchan would usually insist on cooking because he knows that if he doesn’t, Izuku would just go to bed without eating and, “You can’t get strong enough to be my rival if you’re starving, you shitty nerd!”

So, maybe they weren’t where they had been before Izuku was deemed quirkless, but they were getting somewhere. Izuku thought it might be nice to pick a movie they would both enjoy, even if he wasn’t sure Kacchan actually cared anymore about the old film. It was just…something he had thought might be nice.

As Iida continued to berate him about being selfish with his movie picks, however, he realized he may have misjudged.

It hurt a bit, to hear his friend call him things like “selfish” and “self-centered,” and to have all of his other classmates nodding along, agreeing with the sentiment. He thought he’d done his best to be anything but those things. The fact that he so obviously failed, to the point where his friends were pushed over the edge at him over a movie suggestion, quickly had tears welling up in his eyes.

When he could no longer hold them in, head downcast so no one would see that he was about to cry, he quickly bowed, cutting Iida off mid-lecture.

“I’m sorry, Iida. I didn’t mean to make anyone uncomfortable with my suggestion. It won’t happen again. Please excuse me.”

With that, Izuku quickly turned on his heel, head down, until he reached the staircase. He couldn’t bear to wait for the elevator, so he took the stairs two at a time until he was back in his room. He locked the door before bundling himself under his blankets, crying his eyes out until he fell asleep.

The next morning when he woke up, his eyes were red and swollen from crying himself to sleep. He was grateful that Saturdays were his and Kacchan’s mutual rest-day. He didn’t think he could handle having to tell the blond that he looked like shit because he’d cried over a movie the night before. Despite the fact that he knew it was a silly thing to get upset over, his emotions still felt raw, and he’s pretty sure that if he thought about it much more, he would just start crying all over again.

Instead, he meandered his way to his shower, a little dazed as he felt the hot water rush over him. He took a moment to bask in the warmth that loosened all his tight muscles and soothed his aching bones before he began washing his hair, humming a disjointed tune, completely off pitch, but relaxing to him, nonetheless.

He got out, toweled off, and put on his comfiest pair of sweats and hoodie before standing in the middle of his room, looking around, at a loss for what to do next. He didn’t want to go downstairs. He couldn’t even bring himself to think about bumping into any of his classmates after the way they had looked at him yesterday. He wasn’t sure if they would sneer at him, make fun of him for getting upset, or pity him for it, and he really didn’t feel like finding out.

So, instead he decided to make his day useful and sat down at his desk, determined to get ahead on his schoolwork. Soon enough, he was immersed, completely oblivious to the time or the fact that his door was still locked from the night before. He only came out of his trance when he heard a knock before someone was shaking his doorknob.

“Midoriya, open up this instant! It is very childish of you to not attend movie night simply because you did not get your way. You should be a good classmate and join us immediately!”

A quick glance at his bedside clock told him that Iida was right, movie night had started about 10 minutes ago. Still, the fact that Iida had just assumed he was being childish, instead of any number of reasons he might not have been exactly punctual to the gathering hurt his feelings. Not only that but seeing clearly what his “friends” though of him over the past 24 hours had kind of started to irritate him.

So, if Iida wanted to call him childish, he would be childish.

He ignored further knocks on his door and continued doing his homework until he heard Iida mumble something under his breath. A moment later, his phone lit up with a message from the engine user himself. Izuku took a moment to be grateful he had silenced his phone earlier, so there was no chance that even a buzz from the vibration of the message delivery could be heard on the other side of the door.

From: Iida Tenya

Midoriya, as class president I am ordering you to come to the class movie night this instant! This behavior of yours is unbecoming of a future hero.

Izuku had to hold back a snort at that. The more annoyed he became, the more idiotic Iida’s message sounded. Who was he to lecture Izuku on what was or wasn’t the behavior of a true hero?

From: Midoriya Izuku

I’m sorry Iida! I left early this morning. Aizawa Sensei gave me permission to leave campus and spend the weekend with my mom. I can’t come tonight.

Izuku allowed himself to smirk a bit when he heard a huff of frustration precede Iida’s heavy steps back to the common room. He then let out a sigh of relief, knowing that he’d just bought himself an entire weekend to get himself together before class on Monday. At some point tomorrow, he would have to sneak out of his window with a bag, just to walk back through the front door of the dorm to make the lie believable, but at this point it was a sacrifice he was more than willing to make.

He enjoyed another blissful hour of solitude before there was another knock at his door. This time much softer, and Izuku scoffed. If Iida thought that he could coax him out with a change of tactic than he really must think Izuku is an idiot. He elected to ignore it, moving to put his headphones in, but stopping once he heard a gruff voice.

“Oi, Deku it’s me. Open up. I know you’re not at fuckin Auntie’s. The hag would have made me come home too.”

Izuku looked up to his ceiling, taking a deep breath and praying for patience before he reluctantly got up, padding his way over to his door and unlocking it to reveal and slightly ruffled Kacchan. He had his laptop and his old All Might blanket stuffed under his arm with a mug in each hand.

“Kacchan?” Izuku asked, confused. “What are you…?”

The blond brushed past him and into his room, setting the mugs down on his desk while Izuku softly shut and locked the door again.

“The movie was shitty. Couldn’t watch it anymore and I didn’t want to sit in my room.” He shrugged, looking as nonchalant as always, but in the light of his desk lamp, Izuku swore he saw a pink tint to his ears. Izuku opened his mouth to respond, but before he could Kacchan continued. “Brought you some hot chocolate too, the way we like it with the cinnamon and chili and stuff. Your room always gets fucking cold and shit.”

Okay, he definitely wasn’t imagining the pink ears now. He decided to let it go, for the moment, just grateful that Kacchan knew him so well. He whispered out a small, “Thank you, Kacchan,” before moving to grab his mug off the table, holding it in both hands.

“Like always, Kacchan is right. My hands were cold.” The blond seemed to return to himself at that, giving his signature smirk before grabbing his own mug and taking a sip.

“Tch. Of course, nerd. I’m always right.” Izuku just giggled, happy to be spending time with Kacchan once again. Being with the blond was like a breath of fresh air after being trapped in a basement for years. The weight on his chest felt lighter, his worries seemed to disappear one by one, every time Kacchan called him nerd.

His happy thoughts were cut short though. He watched, brow furrowed as Kacchan closed his laptop and placed his own on top of it, opening it to reveal a tab with his movie streaming account already up. Izuku made a noise of question, which Kacchan answered while still pulling up whatever he was looking for.

“Told you, the movies the extras wanted to watch was ass. ‘s still movie night though.”

“Oh, Kacchan! I didn’t know you had a movie you wanted to watch. You should have told Iida so he could have added it to the class poll…” Izuku trailed off because Kacchan was looking at him like he couldn’t decide if he was crazy or stupid. Then, the blond nodded his head toward the screen, eyebrow raised.

When Izuku saw the new All Might movie pulled up, his eyes started watering against his will. Between sniffles, managed to get out a lack luster thank you. “Kacchan…you didn’t have to…”

Katsuki just rolled his eyes, grabbing his blanket and making himself comfortable on Izuku’s bed, holding his mug. “I don’t do shit I don’t want to. You know that, so start the damn movie.”

Izuku wiped his face the best he could on his sweatshirt sleeves before grabbing his own, old All Might blanket and mug, pressing play, and quickly padding his way to the bed next to Kacchan. He snuggled in, feeling all the nostalgia he had anticipated before, especially since it was just him and Kacchan, drinking the best hot cocoa, covered in the blankets they had picked out together so many years ago.

The movie was amazing, and somewhere in the middle of it, Izuku and Katsuki had ended up lying down to watch. Izuku in front, with Kacchan’s head propped up on his shoulder so he could see, arms lazily draped around Izuku’s middle. He didn’t think much of it. It wasn’t awkward or weird. They were Kacchan and Deku, and they were comfortable. That’s all.

As the credits rolled the two heard the rest of the class, heading up to their own rooms or to their friend’s, making use of their Saturday night now that their own movie was over. Izuku looked back at Kacchan, eyes questioning. The blond sighed before burring his face in Izuku’s neck, mumbling into it.

“Can’t fucking leave. Glasses will know you lied if he sees me coming outta here. Can I spend the night?”

Izuku nodded before yawning. “Of course. You can always stay here Kacchan.” The blond just grunted in return pulling Izuku closer. For his part, Izuku welcomed the warmth of the body behind him, and both fell into a deep, restful sleep.

***

Izuku woke Sunday morning feeling incredibly well rested. It was a slow wake up, and he snuggled closer into the warmth that surrounded him. It took him a moment to realize that he wasn’t waking up to his room’s usual frigid temperatures because Kacchan’s arms were still firmly wrapped around him.

He couldn’t fight the goofy grin on his face as he turned to get a closer look, hand coming up to trace all the sharp lines of Katsuki’s face, committing them to memory. He wasn’t sure why, but in this little peaceful morning bubble, it just felt right to do.

As his finger trailed over his lips, Katsuki moved lightning fast to give him a little nip. Izuku let out a startled, light giggle at that as sleepy red eyes opened to look at him, soft with something akin to glee in them.

“Morning nerd.”

“Good morning, Kacchan.”

“What are you doing?”

Izuku just hummed, resuming his path on Kacchan’s face. “Kacchan’s handsome when he sleeps,” is what he finally decided on.

Katsuki just smiled, nuzzling his cheek into Izuku’s hand. “I’d hope my boyfriend thinks I’m handsome all the time, not just when I’m asleep.”

Izuku let out another hum before Katsuki’s words sunk in. Suddenly he was scrambling up from the bed, ignoring Kacchan’s whines of protest to look at him, wide eyed.

“I’m sorry, did you just say boyfriend?” he wheezed out, sure his heart was about to explode from the sudden adrenaline.

Katsuki just looked up at him in confusion from the same, relaxed position he’d been in all morning. “Yes…? You are my boyfriend, I am your boyfriend, we are boyfriends. That’s how that works, Deku.”

Izuku wheezed again, looking at Katsuki like he’d grown two heads, while the blond looked back at him in concern. “Since when?”

Katsuki’s concerned expression began to flash between confusion and hurt. “What do you mean, since when? Deku…Izuku…did you not know we were dating?”

Izuku stared at him, unable to form words, mouth gaping open and shut like a fish.

“Nerd…what do you think we’ve been doing for the past six months? We literally spend every day together.”

Izuku wheezed again, looking at Katsuki like he’d just told him the secrets to the universe and his mind couldn’t handle the knowledge it had been handed. Kacchan’s expression turned playful before he pulled Izuku back down to snuggle him again.

“Guess I did forget to ask explicitly. That’s my bad. Izuku, will you be my boyfriend and watch cheesy All Might remakes and drink hot cocoa and run away from annoying extras with me?” Katsuki’s voice was tinged with sarcasm, but at the same time, Izuku could tell he was sincere.

His brain was completely offline, so he just blurted out what he was thinking. Usually, that was a bad thing, but when he responded with an enthusiastic, “Of course I want to be Kacchan’s boyfriend!” he couldn’t find it in himself to be upset or embarrassed. Especially when it was followed by Katsuki’s happy laugh.

“Good, because I want to get breakfast with my boyfriend before I have to fight the extras for his attention again.”

Izuku was sure he’d died and gone to heaven, but he didn’t much mind. He just nodded his head.

Later, when Aizawa caught them both, sneaking out of Izuku’s window as he was kissing Mic goodbye, the couples gave each other a nod of understanding and went about their business.

Then, when Izuku walked back into the dorms, empty overnight bag slung over his shoulder and his hand laced with Kacchan’s own, he took great delight in telling Iida that no, he didn’t need the, frankly, inedible looking breakfast he’d cooked for the class. He was perfectly full after being treated by his boyfriend.

Iida has sputtered out a response, but Izuku wasn’t paying much attention to him or the scandalized looks from his classmates. He was just focused on Kacchan and the loud, boisterous laughter that he used to fill up Izuku’s world.
