Memories

Summary:

The Todoroki kids comes across an old photo album while going through memories. This leads them to discover more about their father and who he was.

Work Text:

"Who's this?"

Shoto stopped, he and his siblings had been looking through albums they found in the attic. There was an album dedicated to each of them, even Touya, but the pictures stopped being taken around the time he died. The albums left to be forgotten.

He hummed, he and his brother Natsuo turned to see what she was talking about.

She was holding another album, but they didn't recognize the name on the front.

Emma Todoroki
August 8th, XXXX

"Don't tell me the old man has another kid." Natsuo sounds bitter, he always does when he talks about their father.

"Look at how old this is, this girl could probably be Dad's sister." Fuyumi argued, although it would be equally as weird if their father had a secret sister.

Natsuo rolls his eyes, but they all crowd around the book anyway. Fuyumi flips to the first page, it's blank, save for some writing.

I love you firecracker - Dad

"That isn't Dad's handwriting." Shoto is quick to point out, throwing Natsuo's theory out of the window. Their father's handwriting is not nearly that neat.

"Who's is it then?" Natsuo no longer sounds bitter, just confused.

Fuyumi is still chipper, though, "Let's find out!"

The first few pictures are of a really chubby baby, who has fire red hair and turquoise eyes.

There are other people in the photos as well. A man with dark hair and brown eyes, grinning in every picture. There's also a woman with lava for hair, bright blue eyes, and a scowl permanently plastered on her face.

"That scowl is familiar.." Nat mumbles.

"Do you think Dad is their secret love child?" Shoto holds back a smile when he hears both of his siblings groan.

Fuyumi tries not to sound annoyed as she speaks, "Duh! These are obviously Dad's parents, or at least his relatives."

Newfound curiosity fills Shoto, their father never spoke about his parents or his family at all. In fact, he never talked about himself unless it was work related, they knew nothing about his past. It left them to speculate, but none of them had the guts to ask him any questions.

Fuyumi flips through the pictures, and they watch their aunt(?) grow.

"Emma" seemed boyish, looking miserable in dresses and looking her happiest playing in mud or climbing trees. Contrary, her mother only looked pleased when Emma was dolled up.

They watched as Emma's hair grew out and she entered her preteen years. She had braces and hideous headgear all throughout middle school. Fuyumi smacked Natsuo when he snorted, so Shoto suppressed his giggles.

Then, there was a sudden change in Emma as she entered high school. Her hair was cut short, the fluffy mess covering her eyes in every picture. Piercings started appearing; vampire bites, nose rings, and a plethora of ear piercings.

She looked so out of place in the formal UA uniform, even if she did ditch the jacket and unbutton a few buttons. A scowl was almost always plastered on her face.

Shoto mentioned Emma dressed like Bakugou and Sero. The three of them shared a sort of punk style; lots of pins, chains, patches, and spikes.

Somewhere throughout high school, Emma's chest flattened. Natsuo commented on it, and Fuyumi smacked him again for looking at a girl's chest.

They still had no clue who Emma was, until they saw the last picture in the album.

The final picture was of Emma, her hair buzzed and, finally, a grin on her face. It was a mirror selfie, and you could see how happy she was as she showed off the fresh top surgery scars on her chest. There was a woman with her that had her arm around Emma's waist. The woman had long white hair, and twinkling grey eyes. She was smiling softly at Emma, at Enji.

The three Todorokis stared agape at the picture, so many questions running through their minds and so many things clicking.

As if on queue, their father walks in, arguing with Hawks about something.

He stops when he sees the album, but he doesn't seem angry, "Where did you find that?"

After staring in shock for a bit too long, Natsuo breaks the silence.

"You had headgear?"

Chaos erupts, and Enji literally erupts. Shoto finds himself involuntarily smiling at his father's embarrassment.

Because that's what he is, his father, no matter what.
