Work Text:
It was a warm saturday in Mandela county, and not many people were following the advice to stay home, including Cesar Torres. He was on his way to his best friends house, to hopefully play something on their new gameboy. Mark had been paranoid about alternates recently, as a broadcast had come out, telling people to not go outside and to carry a gun on them. Neither would actually work against alternates, Cesar knew this, as they were one. But, before long he pulled up into the driveway of Mark Heathcliff.
Cesar walked up to the door and knocked on it. Mark looked through the peephole, saw that it was indeed Cesar, and opened the door carefully, hoping that Cesar would remain looking like himself when he peered at him. Thank god he did. "Hey, man, whats up?"
"Wanna play Pokémon!?" Cesar asked excitedly, leaning forwards as he did.
"Uh, sure...." Cesar was never this enthusiastic about trivial things. He thought about the main signs of an alternate... Unusual speach patterns, inhuman movements/features... How would he check if Cesar was an alternate? Well, he might as well ask questions...
So, he let Cesar in his house, and asked not-so-subtly "When did we first meet..."
"Dude, are you trying to check me or whatever?"
"Answer me." Mark said while staring into Cesars eyes, trying to see any kind of unnatural-ness.
"Uh, sixth grade at lunch, you were alone, I sat next to you and said something stupid like 'You wanna be lonely together?' you started laughing and we were friends ever since." Cesar, slightly confused, stared back at Mark who breathed a sigh of relief. "You wanna play pokémon now?"
"Yeah."
