It’s hard to see Eddie so still and quiet. When Steve sits next to him, he tries not to think about how heavy he was when he picked Eddie up out of the dirt. He pushes the memory of Dustin’s wails out of his mind. And he definitely doesn’t think about how much blood was all over his jacket. He focuses instead on each slow, painful breath that Eddie takes, hoping the next one will be the one where he wakes up.
