Water splashes against the rocks around the edge of the Enchanted Lake, creating quiet background noise to the otherwise silent night. Carlos sits at the edge of the lake, feet dangling in the water. Despite the absolutely freezing air, the Enchanted lake is warm, calming almost. Maybe the magic in the lake made it permanently the perfect temperature, never too cold, never too warm.
Carlos had brought Dude to the lake after what he considered a long day but in reality, was just a standard day in Auradon. He originally planned on swimming but then decided against it due to being exhausted. Carlos ran his hand above the water, humming at the warm feeling. Dude lets out the dog equivalent of a snore, catching Carlos' attention. He affectionately scratches the dog's ear, smiling at the dog. "Having a nice time, C?"
Carlos almost jumps at the voice. He looks up and sees Jay standing behind him, arms crossed and leaning on one of the support columns. The brunette smirks at the other boy and sits beside him, legs crossed so he doesn't touch the water. "What you doing out here?" Jay asks, glancing between Carlos and Dude.
"Y'know, relaxing, chilling," Carlos hums, making a few weird hand gestures as he speaks. Jay snorts and rolls his eyes. Carlos scowls at Jay's silent insult but clears his throat before clarifying why he's out here. "I got stressed after a while and decided to take Dude for a walk and we ended up here," Carlos stops for a moment before looking at Jay and asking "What about you? Why are you out here?"
Jay thinks for a moment before taking off his boots and dangling his feet in the water next to Carlos'. "I came to find you, you weren't in the dorm when I came back so I figured you would be here," Jay says, kicking up a bit of water to splash Carlos. He glances at the water and smiles. "Wanna go for a swim?" Before Carlos responds, Jay takes off his jacket and shirt and stands up.
He dives into the water with a splash and quickly pokes his head out of the water. Carlos stares at Jay before laughing. "Yeah no, I'm really tired," Carlos says. "I think I'm just gonna head back to the dorms, you have fun-"
Before Carlos finishes, Jay is grabbing Carlos' hands and pulls the shorter boy in with him. Carlos gasps when he gets up to the surface. Carlos shakes his head like a dog to semi-dry his hair and tugs off his shirt, tossing it onto the platform in the middle of the lake. "You're a pain, J," Carlos says, trying to sound annoyed but ultimately failing. Jay swims out to the middle of the lake, Carlos following close behind. "Jayyyy~" Carlos sings, Jay turning to face him just to immediately be pushed underwater. Carlos laughs, swimming away as fast as possible. "Payback!"
"Oh, you'll pay for that!" Jay laughs, chasing after Carlos. The two chase each other for another 5 minutes before they both lay on their backs on the platform, Dude having moved to Carlos' legs to lie. "You wanna go back to the dorms?" Jay asks, sitting up and looking at Carlos. Carlos thinks for a moment before nodding.
"Yeah, lets go, it's almost lights out anyways," Carlos hums, staring at the moon. Jay nods back and stands up, grabbing his stuff and accidentally Carlos' shirt while Carlos picks up Dude and grabs his boots. They walk towards Auradon together, both soaking wet and laughing every step of the way.
