Work Text:

Lumine liked books, everyone who knew her was aware of it. She was always reading when she wasn’t fighting for her life or for others. Although most thought she read for the knowledge of it all only few knew she actually preferred the more tacky hopeless romantic type of reading.

It was the type of book that usually made Xiao wish to burn, he found them pointless. While he did find the whole concept of reading rather pointless at least with non fiction books they actually might hold something useful after all the effort. Though Lumine seemed to disagree.

Lumine was currently telling him the plot of the most recent one she had read, he must admit he started tuning her out a bit ago. He did occasionally pick up something she says but this wasn’t the first time she had sneaked him out just to tell him the plot of her current book it was as if she had made it a ritual of hers.

It had started when he made the mistake of asking her what she was reading one time. She had proceeded to tell him the entire plot from all the tiny plot twists to all the small nods to other books the author had published. Xiao was rather surprised at the time that Lumine would read such a thing but then he realized this was her way of distracting herself. That reason alone is why he never told her to stop.

Xiao may not like the books themselves by a long shot. But what he did enjoy from them is how relaxed and happy they made Lumine, she lights up when she gets to tell him about the newest one and he will listen to her talk about them until she finally runs out of ones to read. Even if he does accidentally tune her out due to boredom.

“Are you even listening?” Lumine asked nudging into his shoulder slightly.

“Of course I am” Xiao turned to face her, “It would be rude not to” That made Lumine snort while raising an eyebrow at him.

“You weren’t” She shook her head, “I did wonder when I’d finally bore you to death with these” She held the book up.

“What are you on about?” Xiao always thought she told him about these because she thought he was generally interested.

“I knew you weren’t interested from the start” She smirked at him like she had just won a bet, “Yet you always asked anyways either out of politeness or curiosity”

“Then why did you seek my out” Xiao couldn’t believe what he was hearing, Lumine had been messing with him this entire time.

“I don’t know I guess I wondered when you would crack” She laughed slightly, “I mean I enjoy them but they are totally not your thing”

“I despise them” He told her making her laugh loudly, “The characters are awful at communicating it drives me insane”

“I thought you would find that relatable” She shrugged as Xiao gave her a look that would have made her scared he would murder her if she didn’t know him so well.

“Take that back” He commanded.

“Why” She tilted her head slightly, he found her infuriating sometimes.

“I can communicate far better than them” He pointed at the book as if he was accusing them, “Take it back” He frowned at his girlfriend.

“Or what” She challenged, without another word he leaned forward carefully pushing Lumine down onto her back making her giggle slightly, “Xiao!” She laughed as he kissed her neck softly, “I wouldn’t call this communication” She teased making him stop and lean his forehead on hers.

“I hate you” He told her with no bite behind the remark, it was more loving than anything. They both knew the other didn’t mean anything behind their words, it was simply their way of expressing their love for one another.

“I love you” She replied smiling up at him before moving her hand behind his head pulling him into a kiss. The kiss was long and passionate is was like one out her book, when the main characters reach the end and finally realize they love one another and have that long kiss in the rain.

The difference was that they both knew they held love for one another and it wasn’t the end of their story it and there was no rain. But apart from all that the passion was the same, they still kissed as if they had never done it before as if they were going to disappear at any second.

When they finally pulled away Lumine was practically breathless yet still managed to tease him, “Does this mean I’m forgiven?”

Xiao scoffed sitting up so he was only kneeling above her, “You have no respect” He rolled his eyes.

Lumine didn’t say anything but reach up and pulled him down by his necklace while pulling him into a long kiss as she pulled away she looked rather pleased with herself, “I have plenty of respect”

Notes:

I must admit as much as I have been enjoying writing these I am going to enjoy a break.
