krypto mari could be raised in Atlantis

Kryptonians can have a 'self-sustenance/sustaining' power that can allow them to not require breathing, so she could legit just be down there and not be bothered by constantly have water in her lungs, like her body just, stops seeing it as a danger to her

so she can be down there and just not die, so long as Atlantis isnt constantly shrouded in darkness

which it prolly isnt, cuz, yknow, its not that far sunk, they still get sunlight, and thats what she needs

she wont get a whole lot, but enough that she can survive in the water and still be a powerful swimmer

anyways, like, Nino as Aquaman's son

big Childhood Friends thing going on

maybe even adopted sister

headcanon that she calls Nino a big turtle cuz hes constantly trying to 'hide in his shell'

when the teen titans form

they want an atlantean bc they stronk

aquaman sends them marinette bc nino doesnt particularly like combat, he wants to rule peacefully n stuff

marinette is their jaunty brawler, who leaps into combat without a second thought if she believes it’s right

Aquaman doesnt bother to tell them shes not a born atlantean

listen, Gen, they dont know all her powers cuz she never had enough sunlight to ever be able to use them

so can you imagine Marinette, finally with a lot of time out of the water, suddenly getting new powers

everyone is confused, mari doesnt know whats going on one bit

like she’s developed her powers

but to a certain extent

so once she activates her superstrength, she accidentally overclocks her strength

and yeets half a building

and at first shes jsut like, "Uh... forgot to acount for lack of water resistance..?"

but it only gets worse

she leaps out of a building and can fly?? she is astounded

so there are broken doors all throughout the titan tower for months until they decide to just not have doors in the main areas

she finds oldie music and loves it

she prolly still likes rock tho

wait!! she likes heavy metal cuz it travels really strongly through water and the vibrations are really neat

like, she only listens to it in water*

the boys think its Raven that listens to Metal when in the bathroom but its actually Marinette with her head underwater in the the bath

cuz like, her normal music she has on in the public spaces and even in her room is normal stuff

imagine they have their first beach day with her there, and shes like '!!! I'll go get my waterproof speakers!'

thye get there, she turns the speakers on, and everyone is absolutely dead still when suddenly hard rock or heavy metal starts up

ans she yeets the speaker into the water

it has a line on it so it doesnt go too far tho

"Last one in is rotten sushi!!" and she's just off

and everyone is still just like WHAT

but they all get to experience the magic that is heavy metal muffled by water

okok so: i think that cyborg would have a crush on her at first, and gar is absolutely smitten as well but he pushes it aside to give cy a chance w her

okk but like, what if Cy is like 'no no, i like her, sure, but like, the water, dude, I dont think i'm waterproof" 

cy and mari go on a date but he finds that he values her a lot more as a friend after like the second or third date

so its not like, super-sad heartbreak going on

he makes sure to tell her, and she agrees that they’re better off as insanely close friends with tons of inside jokes

like, they arent even bf/gf, they go on dates to decide if they want to go on more dates in the future as a couple, and by the third test date theyre like 'nah'

make her realize shes caught the feels for Gar

and Cy is like side-eying her becuase he can see it and thinks its funny as hell

like all of his cheesy stuff (that bb helped him with, dont try to convince me otherwise) just remind her of the green gremlin

and Cy isnt even like, upset, like, no heartbreak here, he full on supports these dorks and their new realizations

he sets them up on a date

he has to deal with BOTH of their crushes tho

i think krypto!mari would be a lot more upfront w her feelings tho ngl

aslo: the exact moment gar realizes he’s in love is their third or fourth team fight

he isnt alone, the other boys have to deal with Gar, too, and the girls gotta deal with mari

he gets swatted to the side and she leaps in with this unhuman roar “how DARE you touch him”

she’s not crushing on him yet tho

true, mari prolly got a lot more confidence, but also, what if the whole new-powers thing is kinda putting a damper on her and shes like, worried about them being a totally unattractive thing with how messy they are, or that she might hurt him by accident, so she's a little shy with it

until she yeets a rock into the air and blasts it with her laser eyes and she just sees gar having the time of his life

Atlantean names seem to not have a pattern to them, besides usually aquatic/mythology based ones

so her first name could just be Marian to be simple

but i feel like her middlename or even a nickname should still contain Mari in it so that 1 we can keep using it and 2 so she has a preference when she selects a new name to go by when acting human

oof, imagine the softness of like, when shes acting human, she introduces herself as Marinette, and like, even uses it when she gives her name to the other titans. Cuz like, she considers her Atlantean name to be sacred and maybe even uses Marinette in Atlantis, like, only family and officials of the state know her true given name

and then she gets her Kryptonaian name and she treats it with that same delicate secrecy

so like... imagine when she tells someone one of her true names

i kinda like the idea tho of her seeing her kryptonian heritage and going “that’s neat, but that’s not me”

thats valid, what if she shortens it to Cython, so it has a similar look to Typhon

bc who she was wasn’t made by a dna test. it was put together, piece by piece, in the atlantean sparring rooms. prank missions with her atlantean brother. all-for-one-and-one-for-all missions with kaldur and nino. schooling about how to lead her people from her father and mera, who was her mother.

who i am isn’t what i am, she realizes. it’s who i’ve made myself to be.

yeah, but that also doesnt mean she needs to ice-out a new part. her kryptonian background is a huge chunk of herself that was missing her entire life, you cant just have it filled in and then ignore its there. part of her becoming who she is is spending weeks in the fortress of solitude reading; countless nights of listening to to kryptonian legends and bedtime stories; sleepless evenings haunted with her old childhood nightmares of her mind dredging up memories of what she now realizes are the last moments her toddler self spent on Krypton; months of agonizing hours spent with Superman where he shows her how to control these powers that are new and strong and donwright scare her

being Kryptonian isnt who she is, but it is part of who she has become

Atlantean Nino is a side/aditional/secondary AU for my Atlantis Raised Krypto Mari AU

Marinette im p sure i had with a full name, hold up

i found where i was talking about it and its honestly v silly

it was def a teen titan au on top of it

i think imma change a lil bit of it so she had hydrokinesis. Cuz she gets sent to be part of the TT as basically an Atlantean rep, and it's a tad pointless if she doesnt even have the key component to it

do some science-fiction nonsense where her body is forced to hyper-adapt/evolve due to being forced into relying on her self-sustainability power from a young age, and say maybe she ended up sick or injured and needed some medical help via some blood transfusion. and with her body trying desperately to adapt, it clings to the blood and the dna and integrates it permanently into her own

so she's v much part atlantean now, heck yeah

Anyways!

She gets adopted by Arthur / Aquaman, cuz theres somethin' special bout this baby, boys, and the king thinks he should handle it, plus he may or may not just really be attached to this child and this is his daughter, hands OFF, and her and Nino are raised together!

Anyways, the fun part was gonna be when she joins a young team of heroes

when the TT's are being formed, or at least requesting new members

Nino is not much of a fighter and would much rather learn how to rule peacefully, so he concentrates on being the crown prince

and Mari is like 'yeah, okay, sure, i'll join the team'

thing is, no one knows shes kryptonian, and her krypronian powers havent come in because all the sunlight shes been getting all her life has been diluted die to being underwater since forever

so while she gets enough that allows her to survive, be a powerful swimmer, and fuel her hydrokinesis, she doesnt have much else

she she's really thrown off all the time when suddenly she has more strength than before, and weird shite starts happening

Nino can maybe eventually join the team later after her, cuz he realizes that as well as he will be able to rule as a king peacefully, he still needs to know how to defend his kingdom

and cuz im uncreative as heck, he can join and call himself Carapace, which Mari finds funny because she always calls him a turtle for being so shy
