Donghyuck feels something hit the back of his head, again . Taking a deep breath, he tries to calm down and pay attention to the teacher.
He feels an eraser bounce off his head.
Letting out a growl, he whips his head around to glare at the most frustrating person in this school.
"Jeno Lee, throw one more damn thing at me and see what happens," Donghyuck hisses out, glaring at the boy who has the audacity to smirk at him.
"And what are you going to do if I don't, Hyuckie," Jeno raises his eyebrow, challenging Donghyuck.
"I'll shove this eraser down your throat, how does that sound," Donghyuck tilts his head, smiling sweetly at Jeno.
"I'd love to see you try," Jeno says with a wink.
Donghyuck clenches his fist, actually debating turning around and doing it, but he feels a soft hand touch his own and uncurl his fist. "I would appreciate it if you stopped provoking my best friend, I don't know what I would do if I had to spend the rest of my high school life alone because he was sent to jail," Renjun rolls his eyes. He's not sure what happened between the two, but one minute they're barely acknowledging each other's existence and the next they're trying to rip each other's heads off.
"Tell him to stop being so fun to tease then," Jeno smirks as he stares at Donghyuck, who glares back.
"Why do you even bother to come to class anyways," Donghyuck hisses, ignoring Renjun's warning. "I'm surprised the teacher hasn't failed you already for missing so many days. What are you doing, huh?" Donghyuck provokes.
Jeno's jaw clenches. "None of your business."
"Sneaking off to smoke? Smacking lips with some cheerleader?"
"You don't know shit about me Donghyuck," Jeno bites, jaw still clenched and eyes hard.
"Yeah, well you're pretty easy to read," Donghyuck smiles.
Jeno stands up abruptly, chair screeching against the floor and startling everyone. He storms out the room, everyone staring in shock as the door slams shut.
"You know, I get you're annoyed with his teasing, but you don't have to be an asshole," Renjun says as he packs up his things once the bell rings.
"All I said was the truth," Donghyuck shrugs.
"You barely know him. You can't assume everything based on looks alone," Renjun says with a frown as they walk out the class. "You of all people should know that."
Donghyuck looks away after hearing that. People are always surprised when he tells them how good his grades are, that he's actually one of the top kids in the school, even surpassing Mark Lee. 'You don't look it' he always hears.
"You should apologize," Renjun says before leaving Donghyuck to go to his next class.
"Why should I be the one to apologize?" Donghyuck scoffs as his best friend walks away. Jeno's the one that started bothering him to begin with, always teasing him whenever he gets the chance. Maybe now he'll leave Donghyuck alone.
And he was right.
He caught Jeno's eye at the end of the day, but the older just looked away and slammed his locker shut, slinging his backpack over his shoulder and walking to the exit.
Donghyuck opens his own locker. This is great. No more Jeno tagging along when he and Renjun walk home together. No more Jeno trying to invite Donghyuck to his house for dinner or to play overwatch (one of his many weaknesses, gaming and food). He's finally free.
He watches Jeno's back slowly disappear in the crowd. He lets out a sigh as he closes his locker.
"So, do you want to stop by the arcade today? Jaemin should be working- Hyuck?" Renjun questions as he watches Donghyuck start sprinting down the hall.
"I'll text you later!" Donghyuck shouts behind him as he runs in the direction Jeno disappeared in.
He bursts out the door, spotting Jeno already walking the path to his home. "Hey," he says, falling into step with him.
Jeno glances at him. "What, missed me so much you decided to start following me?" Jeno teases, but it's weak.
Donghyuck makes a face, "Never."
"Then why are you here?" Jeno narrows his eyes.
Donghyuck breaks eye contact, looking anywhere, but at Jeno. He mutters something under his breath.
"What was that?" Jeno raises his eyebrow, but there's a smirk on his face that tells Donghyuck he knows exactly what he said.
" Iwantedtoapologize ," Donghyuck says again.
"Slow down Duckie, I can't understand you," Jeno chuckles.
Donghyuck blushes at the nickname. "I said I wanted to apologize," he pouts.
"See? Was that so hard?" Jeno smirks, pinching Donghyuck’s cheeks.
Donghyuck glares as he swats his hand away. "Don't make me take it back."
They walk in comfortable silence for a few moments. He glances at Jeno and notices a small smile on his face as they walk side by side.
He's surprised when Jeno turns a corner instead of going straight, where his house is.
"This isn't the way to your house."
"Nope," Jeno says, popping the p.
"Well? Why are we going this way," Donghyuck questions again.
Jeno glances at Donghyuck as they round another corner. "I have to pick up my little sister from preschool."
Donghyuck blinks. "You have a sister?"
"Like I said, you don't know anything about me," Jeno says matter of fact.
They make it to the preschool and Donghyuck watches as a little girl with short black hair runs at Jeno, jumping into his arms.
"Nono!" She yells as she hugs him
Jeno laughs, "Hey princess. Ready to go home?"
The girl nods her head as she grabs her brother's hand and starts dragging him to the exit. She stops when her eyes land on Donghyuck. She tilts her head. "Who are you?"
Donghyuck nearly dies from cuteness overload. He opens his mouth, ready to adopt her as his own sister, but Jeno beats him to it.
"That's Donghyuck. He's," Jeno smirks, "My boyfriend."
"What?!" Donghyuck says, eyes wide.
"What's a boy friend?" She questions.
"I'm not-"
"A boyfriend is someone you care about very much," Jeno smiles.
"Hey, I am nobody's boyfriend," Donghyuck declares.
Jeno’s sister looks at him with a frown. "Does that mean you don't care about my brother?"
"I- well, um," Donghyuck stumbles as the little girl gives him a pout. He glares at Jeno who's trying to hold back his laughter. He sneaks a hit, but Jeno just dodges his hand.
"Alright, I'm just kidding, let's go home."
She doesn't appear to be convinced since she keeps sending them both curious looks.

"Where did you go yesterday?" Renjun asks as soon as Donghyuck sits down.
"I went to apologize to Jeno."
Renjun snorts, "Yeah right."
"I did!" The teacher stops by their desk to hand them the tests they took last week. Donghyuck smirks when he sees the A+ on his. "Just ask Jeno," Donghyuck says, turning around to get the other's attention. "Right Jeno?"
"Hm?" Jeno says as he quickly shoves his paper in his bag, but not before Donghyuck caught sight of the D-. "Oh, uh yeah he did."
Donghyuck spends all of class thinking about Jeno's test score. Are his grades that bad? His mind thinks back to his little sister. When Donghyuck went to his house yesterday, he noticed there weren't any other cars in the driveway so it must have been just Jeno and her in the house. Is it always like that? After class he ignores Renjun and corners Jeno.
"Why did you get a D- on your test," Donghyuck asks.
"It wasn't exactly my choice." Donghyuck keeps staring at him, knowing there's more to the story. Jeno sighs, "Look, I watch my sister a lot since my brother works, so I have to miss school sometimes. Don't have a lot of time to study either," Jeno shrugs, trying to walk past Donghyuck, but he's stopped when a hand grabs his wrist.
"I'm coming over to your house today to help you study," Donghyuck says with no room for argument. He walks away from a shocked looking Jeno who lets out a chuckle as he shakes his head in disbelief.
"Cute," he shouts at Donghyuck who chooses to ignore him and keep walking.
Renjun gives him a questioning look. "Since when have you willingly started a conversation with Jeno?"
"Since now," Donghyuck says with a smile.

"Aren't you going to pick up Jiyoung today?" Donghyuck asks as they stay on the same path to Jeno's house.
"My brother's home today so he picked her up."
Once they get to Jeno's house, he motions to Donghyuck to be quiet as he quietly leads him up the stairs.
"Jeno? Who's this?" A voice asks. When Donghyuck turns around, he's met with a man a few years older than them.
"Just a friend, come on," Jeno says, tugging on Donghyuck’s arm.
"That's Jeno's boyfriend!" His little sister says from the living room. "Hi, Donghyuck!" Jiyoung says, waving her hand, Donghyuck waves back with a sheepish smile, cheeks feeling warm.
"Boyfriend?" The man raises his eyebrow at Jeno who groans in return, cheeks red as well.
"Don't listen to her, Doyoung. We're going upstairs to study, don't bother us," Jeno says as he drags a giggling Donghyuck up the stairs.
"Keep the door open!" Doyoung shouts at them, but Jeno ignores it, shutting and locking it.
"Looks like telling your sister backfired on you," Donghyuck laughs and Jeno rolls his eyes.
"I didn't think she would remember!"
"Whatever," Donghyuck laughs with an eye roll. "Alright, let's get to studying."
Well, Donghyuck tries to get Jeno to study, but he seems to have other things on his mind.
"Jeno," Donghyuck sighs.
"Hm?" Jeno says, head resting on his hand as he stares at Donghyuck. In fact, that's all he's been doing.
"You're not paying attention."
"Of course I am."
"No, all you've been doing is staring at me," Donghyuck says with his arms crossed.
"Exactly, that's paying attention." He pokes Donghyuck’s forehead. "You're cute when you're explaining complicated math formulas," he says with his eye smile Donghyuck definitely hates and definitely doesn't give him butterflies.
"Fine, if you're paying attention like you said, finish these problems," Donghyuck writes down a couple problems and slides them over to Jeno.
Jeno smirks. "What do I get if I get them right?"
Donghyuck eyes him suspiciously. "Nothing."
Jeno taps his finger against his chin as he pretends to think. "Mm, I don't think I will then."
"Fine," Donghyuck grumbles. He's positive Jeno won't get them all right, he added a question on there he hasn't even gone over with him yet. "What do you want?"
"A kiss."
Donghyuck nearly chokes. "A k-kiss?"
"Yep, you have to give me a kiss." Jeno leans forward with a smirk, "What? Scared you won't win this bet?"
Oh it's on
"Deal, but there's no way you're winning," Donghyuck smirks. It starts to falter when Jeno only smirks back, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"We'll see about that," he says as he starts examining the problems.
Donghyuck blinks dumbly as he goes over the answers Jeno answered. "How did you?" He glares at a smug looking Jeno.
"What's the problem Duckie? Something wrong," he smirks.
"You cheated!" He accusingly points at Jeno who puts his hand up.
"I didn't! I swear," he laughs.
"Then how the hell did you get them all right? Even the last one! We didn't even go over that one yet," Donghyuck says in disbelief.
Jeno just continues to smirk. "Like I said, I've been paying attention. Believe me now?"
Donghyuck pouts, but nods his head. "Fine, I guess you were paying attention."
Jeno grins as he looks at Donghyuck expectantly. "I think you owe me something."
Donghyuck’s cheeks go red as he remembers the promise.
"Fine."
Jeno's eye's go wide. "Wait really?"
"Yes, do you want your kiss or not?" Donghyuck giggles, watching the way Jeno pouts and eagerly nods his head, like an over excited puppy. "Close your eyes," Donghyuck whispers as he leans in closer. Jeno does, heart picking up as he waits. After a few moments he feels soft, plush lips softly connect with his own. Jeno opens his eyes when the feeling disappears and is met with Donghyuck’s gorgeous smile, stunning him.
"How was it-"
Jeno's hand grabs the back of Donghyuck’s neck, pulling him closer so Jeno can reconnect their lips. He feels Donghyuck gasp into the kiss and a slow smirk makes its way onto Jeno's own lips as he deepens the kiss.
They break apart after a while, cheeks red and slightly out of breath.
"It was great," Jeno says, a slow dopey smile making its way onto his face. He leans in once more, but a knock on the door startles both of them.
"Nono, can you make me a peanut butter sandwich? I asked Doyoung but he said to get you and make sure I bang on the door really really loudly."
"Of course he did," Jeno mutters as he gets up and opens the door, picking up his little sister who starts giggling when Jeno throws her over his shoulder.
"Remember no-"
"No crust, I got it princess. I'll be right back," he winks at Donghyuck before he goes.
Donghyuck giggles and touches his warm cheeks once they're both out of slight. He wasn't expecting that to happen, but he's secretly glad it did. His gaze goes back to the problems Jeno completed. He's still stunned that boy was able to complete them, and so fast at that. His eyes land on Jeno's backpack.
A little peek wouldn’t hurt.
He opens his bag and digs through it until he finds the paper he was looking for. As his eyes move from question to question, he becomes even more confused. There was barely any effort put into some of these questions, and one of the answers is just a smiley face. In fact, this handwriting looks eerily familiar. His eyes land on the name printed messily in the corner.
Na Jaemin
"Lee Jeno," Donghyuck growls as his hand crumbles the paper. He empties the rest of the contents in the bag on the floor and finds another test, this time Lee Jeno is printed neatly in the corner. He looks at the grade.
A+
"Hey, did you want to stay for dinner, we're getting pizza- '' Jeno starts to say, but quickly ducks when a pillow is thrown at his head. "Uh, Hyuck?" Jeno questions with a frown, quickly dodging another pillow.
"Jeno," Donghyuck says sweetly as he stands up and starts taking slow steps towards Jeno, who takes hesitant steps back.
"Hyuck?" He gulps.
Donghyuck holds up Jeno's test. Jeno's eyes open in shock as he stares at it.
"Any last words?" Donghyuck smiles.
"You're hot when you're mad?" Jeno says, then turns around and bolts down the stairs.
"Lee Jeno, get your cute butt back here," Donghyuck shouts as he chases after the boy.
They chase each other around the house, avoiding a very confused Doyoung. Jiyoung giggles as she watches, getting up at one point to help her brother, until Donghyuck convinces her to join his side and they both ganged up on Jeno, finally cornering him and making the boy beg for forgiveness. Afterwards they enjoy pizza and watch frozen 2, Donghyuck’s pretty sure he won the hearts of Jeno's siblings.

They both stand outside Jeno's house, they didn't realize how late it had gotten until Donghyuck got a message from his brother, telling him to come home.
"Want me to walk you home?" Jeno asks as he shoves his hands in his pockets.
"No it's fine, I'm not far." Donghyuck smiles at the sweet offer.
Jeno stares at him, a smile forming on his face the longer he stares. Donghyuck blushes, "What?"
"Go on a date with me. This weekend, we'll do whatever you want."
Donghyuck giggles, "Anything I want?" Jeno nods his head. Donghyuck pretends to think, "And why should I say yes after the little stunt you pulled?"
Jeno pouts as he grabs his wrist and tugs him closer, "Please? I called you hot, remember?"
"Alright fine," Donghyuck gives in, making Jeno smile. "Nothing fancy though, maybe just pizza and overwatch?"
"Perfect."
"Alright, sounds like a date," Donghyuck grins and turns to walk away, but Jeno's hand around his wrist doesn't budge.
"Can I get another kiss?"
Donghyuck blushes as he nods his head. "Alright, close your eyes," he says, leaning in. Jeno does, expecting it to be like last time, but instead of soft lips connecting with his own, he feels a kiss on his nose.
"See you tomorrow," Donghyuck sings as he hops off the porch and dashes towards his house.
Once he's home he gets a text from Jeno.
