Work Text:

Nathan tried to peek above the moving heads and glanced around every room he entered. He looked like a lost kid, and he sure as hell felt like one. Vic convinced him to do matching costumes this year. She was an angel, he was the devil. It was cliche, but she was right in the fact that they both were undeniably hot.

But what was the point of having a matching costume if he couldn't find the other half? One moment they're together snacking on Halloween candy, the next she's gone. No halo or feathery wings could be seen.

He took a brave swig of his beer and tried to make his way through the crowd of people dancing, dodging arms waving in the air and moving around grinding hips. He knew the Vortex club's Halloween parties were one of the more popular ones, but this was probably the most people he's seen at a party in a while. He thought he was doing pretty well getting through without bumping or tripping until someone stumbled backward into him, almost spilling their drink onto themselves and Nathan.

"What the fuck, man!" He shouted as he tried to find his balance. The figure turned around and he quickly dropped the angry tone. Warren's familiar face was painted in black and white skull makeup. Even though it was dark and his face looked different with the paint, he could see his eyes were wide open.

They weren't together. Or "together," at least. Whatever that meant. They only ever talked, texted, and hung out in secret. To outside observers, they couldn't care less about each other, but it was quite the opposite. They frequently met up, often relaxing on the rooftop, sitting in empty parking lots, or even sneaking into each other's dorm rooms late at night. Things were different when it was the two of them. It started a couple of months back when the two realized they got along surprisingly well. Nathan never had to put up a cold front around him when they were alone. Something about Warren made him so soft and comfortable, and he knew Warren was comfortable with him. At least, that's how they were with no one around. Things between them changed a while ago. What started as a small friendship created over shared interests and a little bit of weed became something entirely different after they kissed.

He could still remember it so clearly. It was late and they were high out of their minds, and the two of them just kissed. They never really talked about it, but it definitely wouldn't be the last time they made out.

"I was hoping to bump into you!" He yelled over the music. Nathan still had to read his lips to fully understand what he was saying. Warren wore a shirt and fingerless gloves with bone designs on them, and he thought he looked strangely good with the skeleton makeup.

"Oh, really?" He playfully responded and leaned in so he wouldn't have to talk so loud.

"Of course," Warren looked him up and down, not so subtly checking him out. He thought Nathan looked plain hot in his costume. Red silk button-up shirt with a few buttons tastefully undone, leather pants, dress shoes, devil horns, and some smudged eyeliner. "You look amazing. No pointy stick and wings though?"

He scoffed and shook his head, "Vic fucking dipped on me. I think I've given up on trying to find her."

Warren bobbed his head to the music. "Somebody's Watching Me" played and he took a quick sip of his beer, "Well if you've given up, you could always dance here with me."

Warren began to exaggeratedly and certainly drunkenly lip-sync the words. Nathan eyed him with a small smile, "That offer is definitely tempting."

Nathan couldn't help but laugh when Warren started to dance. He had the grace of a fish out of water. He indulged in it and acted like a fool with him, singing along and dancing freely with him. In a crowded place with everyone occupied with their own dancing, it didn't matter how dumb he looked or how suspiciously close they were. They just blended in. They were moving so close together and against each other that he could feel the warmth radiate from his moving body. The music was so loud he felt it in the floor and his chest. The lights flashing lit up Warren and his carefree expression, and Nathan admired his illuminated features as he laughed and sang. He was stunning. He wished he could've captured it in a photo forever. The moment felt so right, so perfect. He could've kissed him right there.

But even though they were lost in the crowd, he couldn't get away with that.

He looked around to see if anyone was watching and grabbed him by the front of his shirt, "Let's get out of here."

He didn't have to ask Warren twice. He was completely enamored of Nathan, blindly following him wherever he was tugging him. Any onlookers would've seen it as a fight about to break out or Nathan kicking Warren out of the building. He pulled him with aggression and Warren's eyes were dazed like he already took a couple of hits. Before he knew it he was pulled inside a dark coat closet and pushed against the door.

It was crazy to him how quickly they fell together. Making out under the influence wasn't exactly new between the two of them.

Warren felt a euphoric dizziness every time they kissed like this. Nathan leaned into him, pressing his weight against him, and Warren gripped his shirt. Nathan hooked his fingers through the belt loops of Warren's jeans and pulled his hips impossibly closer. He gasped into his mouth and it lit Nathan's brain on fire. He bit down on his lip and ran his tongue over it. Their mouths messily moved against each other, wet tongues dragging across teeth. Warren savored every moment, reveling in it. Reveling in Nathan.

"Your mouth," he commented in between gasps for air, "it tastes like...chocolate...and beer."

Normally, it would've been super dorky to hear. It quite possibly would even be a turn-off for Nathan. But it was unexplainably hot to hear Warren tell him how he tasted, "Shut...the fuck...up."

Warren's hands found their way under his shirt, past the part already unbuttoned. They traveled up his chest and past his shoulders, feeling his skin burn under his fingers. His hands made it to his hair and tangled themselves in it. When Nathan shifted his hips, Warren lightly pulled on it with a groan, and the noise that came from Nathan's mouth completely fried his mind. His movements briefly paused as he processed the sound. The noise vibrated in his own mouth as he kissed him, and it was whiny and needy. It was unlike any noise he'd ever heard from him.

Nathan took his lips off of him, unsure what to say and clearly embarrassed by it. He was about to speak when Warren tugged his hair again and pulled him in to kiss his neck, making him involuntarily make the sound again. Nathan squirmed and writhed on top of him, gasping and whining and melting in his hands. Warren sucked on his skin, licking the spot on his neck.

"Please, Warr—fuck," He lost any control he had over the situation.

Warren loved hearing him. He loved everything about him. He loved how he sounded, how he tasted, he was in love with all of it. He was in love with Nathan. He loved getting high with him and he loved being around him even when he wasn't high. He loved the way he laughed and the way he moved when he danced and how things were when it was just the two of them.

Warren was so caught up in the moment and lost in Nathan that he mindlessly whispered against his neck, "I love you."

Nathan's movements froze and his grip on Warren loosened. He grabbed his hands out of his hair and backed off of him. They both were breathless and he could hear their panting mix with the muffled music outside. Nathan asked him, "What did you say?"

"Nothing," He tried to backtrack, already missing the feeling of him on top of him. Why did he say that? What was he thinking? Clearly, he wasn't thinking at all.

"No, you said..." The sounds of his footsteps shuffling backward filled the closet.

"That I love you?"

"No," Fear showed through in his voice. Hearing that scared Nathan more than anything Halloween could conjure up. No ghosts or demons or jump-scares could beat the feeling that gave him, "No, you don't."

Fuck it, Warren thought. He couldn't take that back. If he just ruined their whole relationship, he might as well go all the way. He shook his head, "I don't know what I was thinking when I said that. But you know what? I do."

"You don't know what you're fucking talking about."

Warren searched for the lights. He needed to see Nathan. Once his eyes adjusted to the dim light, he saw how swollen and wet his lips were. How the spot on his neck was pink. The devil horns were askew, and Warren's black and white face paint was smudged onto his mouth and neck. He once again was lost in the moment and blurted out, "I'm in love with you, Nathan."

He wiped the saliva off of his chin, "We're just friends."

"Just friends don't do what we just did. Just friends don't do that almost any chance they get," Warren approached him and tried to reason.

"Warren, don't fucking say shit you don't mean," Even as his voice grew harsher, that tinge of fear was still present. He looked down at the floor, panicked.

"I do mean it! I don't want you like a friend or a fuck-buddy or whatever, I really mean it," He grabbed his hands and tried looking him in the eyes. He was desperate. He began to tell him everything in his mind. It was probably the only chance he'd ever get, "I want you to feel like you can talk to me and tell me things no one knows, and I wanna be there for you. I wanna be with you, more than what we have going on right now!"

Nathan shook his head, still looking away. He waved Warren's hands away, "Please stop. You don't know what you're fucking saying, you're just drunk."

"You can ask me again when I'm hungover tomorrow morning," He pleaded, "Please."

It was quiet. He missed the noise from seconds ago. Did he really ruin their whole relationship with those three words? It wasn't much of a relationship, but Nathan was stuck in his mind like glue. Nathan sighed and finally looked up at him. His heart skipped a beat. His brows were furrowed and he was frowning. He almost resembled a sad puppy the way he looked at Warren. Quietly, he asked, "You really mean all of that?'

"Yes!" He said immediately, "Of course."

Nathan stared at his lips, "What about everyone?"

"We can figure that out later," He leaned in closer to him and spoke gently back, "But for now, I just want you to know that I want you."

Nathan pulled him by the waist, thumbs running against his hip bones. Whatever they had ahead of them was uncertain. Nathan stared at him. He thought about what he really wanted. Above everything, what did he want? Finally, he whispered against his mouth, "I want you too."
