Work Text:
That was what he would have wanted to happen.
Wille would have wanted things to go this way. He wanted all the pain and all the hardships and all the betrayal. All of it. He wanted the hurtful words from his mother, and the downfall of August, and Christmas crashed by Madison’s canceled flight. All of it. He wanted Ebba’s text messages, and the whispers in the hallways, and the completely unscripted statement about a video he did not ever want taken or posted online. All of it.
He would have taken it all, and taken it with grace, if meant he got to have his brother there with him. If it meant Erik was by his side, making mistakes and correcting them as they moved through every scandal.
But that’s not how it happened.
Instead, before he could make it to that bus stop with Simon all the way back at the beginning of this story, another story — the real one — had ended.
A story had ended with a phone call, his mother’s shaking voice, and the words “Erik är död.”
