Cold

Summary:

Finan rolls his eyes and shakes his head. “Ye know ye coulda just sat at the window an’ waited until ye saw the school bus, right?”

Notes:

I can't read apparently and read day 5 as hypothermia. So I wrote that instead. XD And then BBJ informed me it was hyperthermia. So... oh well! I wrote one for each! 8D

Work Text:

The temperature is dropping.  He can feel it.  Summer seems to have gone right into winter with no fall at all.  No easy, gentle slide into the frostbitten temperatures.  He swears it was hot enough for a tank top and shorts just a week ago and now he can see his breath as he breathes out.  He rubs his hands together and fuck, he doesn’t know how much logner he can stand there.

“Uhtred!  Come inside ‘fore ye freeze!”

“No!”  He calls back stubbornly, not even turning to look at the Irishman.  He has like 10 minutes left.  He can wait, he can wait, he can wait… fuck… he hopes he can wait.

“Uhtred!”

Uhtred turns and glares at Finan, standing on the porch and leaning over the railing.  “No!  Sitty always stands right here and waits for them!  Every day!  And I promised him I would while he’s in the hospital!”

Finan sighs and shakes his head.  He doesn’t say more as he pushes away from the railing and turns back inside.

Uhtred nods to himself and pulls out his phone.  His fingers shake as he checks the time.  And he still has at least 9 minutes.  Fuck!  Why did he pack all his winter clothes away?  Why hadn’t he left a jacket or something out?  Why hadn’t he gone up to the attic and gotten the winter shit yet?  Because this is just ridiculous!

“Here.”  Finan’s voice is beside him and the Irishman crowds closer and throws a blanket over both of them.

“Oh fuck yes!”  Uhtred practically moans.  “My heater!”  He shoves his hands under Finan’s shirt.

Finan flinches and fights against pulling away from him.  “Fuck, Uhtred!  Yer fingers are frozen!”

Uhtred sticks out his bottom lip.  “It’s cold!”

Finan rolls his eyes and shakes his head.  “Ye know ye coulda just sat at the window an’ waited until ye saw the school bus, right?”

Uhtred blinks and doesn’t answer as the large yellow vehicle finally turns onto their road.
