Work Text:
Crona sat on the cold bedroom floor.
What was it that they were feeling? Was it loneliness? No, it couldnt be. Since they joined Shibusen, they felt the least loneliness in their entire life. Their wonderful friends supported them from the start, making them feel cared for the first time ever. Yet they still craved something, they wanted something... more.
Crona was not ungrateful though. Quite the opposite actually - having in mind the multiple fights that could have potentially ended in them killing their friends, they still were not sure why they were worth their friendship, but couldnt be more happy with the company they were given.
Why did they feel this empty then?
Maybe they would feel better if they tried to return the amount of affection they were given. But Crona was not good at that. After all they were just now learning how healthy, close relationships look like. However, one person made them confident enough to express their feelings to.
Maka. Maka always made them feel at home. Everything they did together just felt right and Crona didn't feel the need to second guess themselves around her since Maka simply accepted them the way they are. If they could be with her all the time, they would not complain. That's when they felt the happiest, the most comfortable. Company of the blonde just felt right. Crona felt protected and safe, and they wished they could make her feel the same.
Ah.
What they were feeling was genuine love. Love for that blonde meistress who always cared for them, who always got herself in trouble, who was easily irritated and who always smiled at them warmly. But how could Crona tell? No one ever made them feel this way before. They had no idea how to deal with it, so they kept sitting there on the floor, pining for their friend in complete silence.
They hugged their knees, blushing intensly, purple strands of hair falling into their eyes. God, if only Maka was there...
Then, a silent knock on the door filled the room. Without even waiting for a response, a familiar silhouette appeared in front of a curled up person on the floor.
"Hi Crona! Is everything alright? We were supposed to meet up with everyone, remember?"
Crona raised up their head to look into Makas concerned eyes, only to hide it again in their knees, so she wouldn't notice the massive blush that had grown on their face.
"Hey, what's wrong? Are you crying?"
The blonde girl got closer to Crona and sat right in front of them, forcing them to look back into her eyes. The look she gave them was worried, caring and warm, all at the same time.
Fuck, she looked adorable.
They reached out to gently touch a strand of her hair, which made her smile lightly. They leaned in as if they wanted to tell her something really quietly...
...and then Crona pressed their lips against hers.
How did they become so brave all of a sudden? It was a mystery even to them, but it did not matter. Makas lips felt soft and warm. Though the kiss took her by surprise, she soon returned it and Crona could feel her smile growing.
When they slowly pulled away, Maka looked them straight into their eyes again. She was now smiling brightly, which made Cronas face heat up even more than before. They hid their blush in their hands as she playfully ruffled their hair.
"If you wanted a kiss so badly, you should have just asked" she laughed, which only made Crona more embarassed.
"I'm sorry" they mumbled in response.
"Dont apologize, I enjoyed it. But we really should get going now. Soul and Kid are waiting for us outside."
The meistress took their hand to help them get up. Their fingers intertwined as they were walking out of the room, which gave Crona butterflies.
The empty feeling dissapeared. Crona felt at home again.
