“ Don’t knock, don’t knock, don’t knock, don’t knock.” I repeat to myself, sobbing with my back on the door. It was just one bad grade, one C+ on an assignment, just one slip up on my GPA to catch up with the Azura show. Now my mom is slamming at my door.
“Amity Blight! Open the door at once!” Mom commanded. God, I hate hearing that voice so much. What is she going to say now? She wants me to be the best, to be successful in life? Then why does she always yell at me?
I wiped my tears and picked my Azura books up, why does Mom always have to ruin everything? Dad, Edric and Emira were all fine, just Mom never seemed to be satisfied with everything I did. I just wished I could escape all of this, go somewhere else.
Unsure of what to do, I picked up two Azura books, a couple of small snacks, and a light coat. I just needed some alone time, some time away from Mom. Opening my window, I snuck out, running into the forest. I didn’t really intend on coming back any time soon.
Exhausted, I rested on a tree, rereading some of my favorite passages from The Betrayaling. The plot twist between Lucy and Azura, the Hecazura date, it was a nice distraction. When I finished it, I looked around the ground for the other, but it was gone! I looked all around, swearing that I had it. I then noticed a tiny owl with my book.
“Tiny book thief!” I yelped, chasing the owl through the woods, and into a decrypted old house. Doesn’t really seem like it was taken care of in a while, but it doesn’t matter. The owl ran into a glowing door, and I followed. For some reason when I entered the door, I was suddenly in some sort of tent, with all sorts of knick knacks and trinkets.
“Finally, you’re back, Owlbert!” An old woman exclaims.
“Wait, I didn’t even show you my battle cry yet! WEHHH!” a high pitched voice screams. I peeked out the curtain to see a white skinned woman with some sort of... dog creature? The woman glanced at my Azura book for a few seconds.
“Hm... would make for some good kindling” The woman decided, burning it over a torch. All those ships, all those hours poured into reading it, my own Azura OC! I could do nothing but snatch it away from the woman and try to run back to the portal, before it closed.
“Wha- what’s happening?!” I cried. The woman and her dog looked back at me, utterly confused.
“Kid, are you lost?” The woman asked, before her golden eyes turned into shock. I looked more closely at her, she wasn’t a human! She had long pointy ears, a staff with the same owl that stole my Azura book, and summoned some sort of spell.
“I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I just wanted my book back, please don’t eat me!” I screamed, drawing attention to the supernatural crowd around.
“Please sister, we would never eat someone like you!” The dog proudly said.
“What King said, we’re not going to hurt you, just-”
“Halt! In the name of the Emperor!” Another woman said, clad in white and dark blue robes.
The older woman stopped in her tracks and looked back, “Heya there Lilly, here to arrest me again?” The older woman said.
“Stop calling me Lilly, Edalyn! And yes, we’re here to finally bring you to a coven!” The woman declared, summoning a capturing spell on all 3 of us.
“You really didn’t think this through Eda?” King grumbled.
“Hey, at least it’s better than the Night Market!” Eda exclaimed.
“SOMEONE HELP PLEASE!” I screamed. The woman noticed me and ordered King and Eda to be brought to prison, and kindly approached me.
“Are you lost?” The woman asked.
“Yeah, I don’t think I’m supposed to be here,” I sniffled, “I’m supposed to be from Earth, but-”
“Earth?” The woman interrupted, “Perhaps Lord Belos could help you, stay close to me”
And I followed her to the “Coven Precinct”. On the way, she kept mentioning how Eda was never in a Coven and was a criminal all her life because of it. After arriving, she told me to wait in the waiting room until she’s finished with Eda and King.
While there, I kept working on my Azura OC in there, trying to keep my mind occupied after everything that happened here and with Mom.
“Whatcha got there?” A girl peeped, startling me to death. “Oh Titan sorry! Here, lemme help.” She reached out to help get me up, and noticed my Azura book. “Wait, you read Azura too?!” She gasped.
“Yeah... it’s just a hobby of mine. Nothing much” I sighed, before seeing her eyes glitter in excitement.
“Oh my gosh, I’ve been looking for someone who reads Azura forever!” She shouts, aggressively shaking my hand in happiness. “I’m Luz, Lilith’s proud apprentice!”
“A-Amity Blight” I blurb out.
“So you’re not from around here right? Do you come from some sort of alien world?” Luz asked.
“I-I guess? I’m still not sure what’s going on around here.”
“And what’s with your ears? Why aren’t they pointy like ours?”
Before I could say anything, there was a massive explosion, blowing out a huge chunk of wall where I was at. When the smoke cleared, I saw Eda and King yelling at me to hop on to the flying staff.
“Oh do you need to go, well see ya Amity!” Luz cheered
“Uh... goodbye?” I said.
I hopped on the staff and we flew off. “What were you doing talking to Lilith’s kid?” Eda asked.
“Well... we had a lot in common, that was all” I said, hiding away my slight blushing when thinking about Luz. When we landed, Eda opened the portal door again.
“Well you gotta go home right? Just hop in.” Eda said
“And make sure you tell them about the Mighty King!” King said.
I looked back into the forest again, thinking about Mom, and looked back, thinking of Luz and everything that happened today.
“Could I stay here?” I asked.
