Work Text:
Mu Qing stomped his way into his house with a deep scowl on his face. Xie Lian looked up from his work in front of him, reading glasses perched on the edge of his nose.
“What’s wrong, Mu Qing?” He asked, pushing the glasses up. His husband made his way to his side, giving him a kiss on his cheek before moving his hands around like he was a helicopter.
“Our fucking neighbors! Again!” Mu Qing groaned, still waving his arms around, “One of them straight up challenged me! He said they could decorate their house the best for Halloween! And they would hand out the best candy!”
“Hm. Bold. And surprising, which one was it? I met one of them and he was quite pleasant. Though, you do tend to bring out the more… intense sides of people.” Xie Lian teased, causing Mu Qing to glare at him halfheartedly.
“Not funny. It was the brunette one. Feng… Xin? Something like that,” Mu Qing huffed again, “We have to beat them, Dianxia! We have to!” Xie Lian nodded solemnly, knowing his husband was not going to let this go.
“Alright, let’s go to the store to get supplies and candy.” He slipped off his glasses, grabbing his keys and shoes.

“You really put yourself in deep shit this time.” Hua Cheng comments. Curled up against his side, Feng Xin flicks him in the stomach. The other man lets out a definitely-faked noise of pain.
“I panicked!” Feng Xin defended himself.
“How do you panic so badly that you start a war?” Hua Cheng mused, making the other man sit up.
“That’s enough, you’ve lost cuddling privileges.” Feng Xin stood up, now pouting.
“A-Xinnnnnn. You’re so cruel to your husband.” Hua Cheng complained, a devilish grin on his face.
“My husband is the cruel one. Get up, bitch, we’re going shopping.” Feng Xin nudged him in the side with his foot. Hua Cheng sighed. He could act all he wanted, Feng Xin knew he was as into this as he was.

“Mu Qing... you can’t withhold candy from the little kids because you think their costume is ugly,” Xie Lian sighed as Mu Qing clutched the bowl of candy tighter in his arms.
“Mmm, watch me,” Mu Qing replied as they prepared to greet the next group of children on their porch.
Their house looked amazing, if Mu Qing did say so himself. But so did Feng Xin and his husband’s. Mu Qing refused to admit it was better, though, because it wasn’t. He and Xie Lian had truly gone all out.
Seeing the two aforementioned men heading towards them, and no kids at the moment, Mu Qing and Xie Lian went down their driveway to meet them.
“Accepting your defeat?” Mu Qing sneered, hands on his hips. The group of them looked wild—a vampire, a werewolf, a demon, and a shitty sheet-ghost standing in the middle of the street in a supernatural costume standoff.
“As if, our house is better.” Feng Xin scoffed. Mu Qing crossed his arms over his chest.
“Bullshit, ours is better!” He pointed a finger at Feng Xin. The two of them quickly fell into arguing over whose house was the best. Xie Lian awkwardly laughed watching his husband get all worked up. He turned to the other man not arguing.
“I’m sorry, I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m Xie Lian, and that’s my husband, Mu Qing.” He got his hand out from under the sheet to hold it out.
“Hua Cheng, but you can call me San Lang. That’s my husband, Feng Xin. Nice to meet you.” Hua Cheng shook the outstretched hand. Xie Lian smiled.
“The feeling is mutual!” He turned to look at their husbands, “They’re an interesting pair aren’t they.” If the other man had any concerns regarding his tone he didn’t show it, he simply nodded in agreement.
“Absolutely.”
When they had gotten back home when kids started to show up, each of the non-arguing men prying their husband’s away, Hua Cheng grinned at Feng Xin’s worked up appearance.
“You like them.” Hua Cheng commented.
"Just shut up and hand out candy." Feng Xin snapped with no real heat, shoving the popcorn bucket full of candy into his arms. His husband just cackled.

The night had barely ended before Mu Qing shut their door and dragged his husband, now sheet-less, down their driveway to sit at the end to wait for the other couple to come with their stats.
“Mu Qing, how did you even keep track? You’re so smart!” Xie Lian asked, surprised at the exact number of kids and candy that Mu Qing remembered. Mu Qing flushed and shrugged. Xie Lian laughed and kissed him sweetly. Feng Xin, who had walked up a second earlier with his husband in tow, cleared his throat. They pulled away with a blush and Xie Lian waved.
“Hello to you both! Nice to meet you, Feng Xin, I’m Xie Lian!” The man greeted brightly. Feng Xin being caught off guard made both Hua Cheng and Mu Qing snort. Mu Qing understood completely, his husband truly had that effect on everyone he met. Mu Qing knew he was the luckiest motherfucker in the world. He turned his eyes on Feng Xin and smiled wickedly.
“What do you have to show?” Mu Qing demanded, smirking. Feng Xin put his hands on his hips and puffed out his chest.
“137 kids, 567 pieces of candy.” Feng Xin boasted. Too busy basking in his sure victory, he didn’t notice the wicked grin spreading across Mu Qing’s face. Hua Cheng did, however, and started snickering. Feng Xin opened his eyes to question his husband but noticed Mu Qing and felt his face pale.
“We fucking win!” Mu Qing yelled, flipping off the brunette with both hands. Feng Xin just groaned before he began to cuss Mu Qing out, both of them taking the bait and continuing to fight for a bit longer. When they were done, they joined their husbands who were sitting and snacking on the candy they had left over and eventually starting up conversations about their lives.
“Oh!” Xie Lian said, checking his phone, “It’s 1 a.m., we should go inside.” Now noticing how cold it was, Mu Qing shivered. Hua Cheng offered him his jacket, the raven accepting it with a small thanks.
“We should get home, then.” Feng Xin said as they all got to their feet, picking up the candy wrappers all around them.
“Would…” Xie Lian trails off, seeming nervous. Mu Qing rests his head on his shoulder, looking at the other two men with distaste.
“Do you want to fucking come over or what?”
