Work Text:

I'll have a blue Christmas without you
I'll be so blue just thinking about you
Decorations of red on our green Christmas tree
Won't be the same dear, if you're not here with me

Molly huffed at the song playing on the radio in her hospital room. Noel was bound and determined to make her arrival into the world as soon as possible, and so now she was on bed rest while Khan was at home with Edmund. And it was Christmas Day and she wanted to cry because she was missing it all just to lie in a stupid hospital bed.

She shut her eyes and sighed, biting back tears. Edmund’s first Christmas and Mummy wasn’t there--

The door opened and she heard Edmund’s babbling and her eyes flew open. Khan was carrying Edmund on his hip, and he had a trash bag filled with...something, and a smaller bag she could see decorations peeking out of.

“We couldn’t very well have Edmund’s first Christmas without his mum,” Khan said, setting Edmund in the chair and pointing at him, a stern, wordless warning to sit still, and then he took the bag of decorations and started putting them up around the private room. Molly’s heart burst with love for her husband at the simple act of decorating a hospital room and sharing Christmas with her when she was otherwise indisposed.

“Does the big bag have the gifts?” Molly asked.

“Of course,” he said. “I’d have used a canvas sack but I couldn’t find one that would fit all of your and Edmund’s gifts.”

“But not your gifts?”

“We can open mine after you’ve had Noel and are back home, safe and sound,” he said as he finished decorating. “Edmund will sit on the bed with you and I’ll pass you gifts, and then we’ll stay and keep you occupied until you go into labor or the nurses kick us out, whichever comes first.”

“I love you, you know that, right?”

Khan moved over to her and kissed her softly. “I wouldn’t have it any other way. And I love you too, just so we’re clear.”

Molly laughed and Khan lifted Edmund up onto Molly’s bed. She snuggled with her son and waited until he was handed a gift to unwrap. She helped him unwrap the gift that Khan had meticulously wrapped, having gone on bed rest before they could even finish the shopping. He was the best husband she could have asked for, and she would always remember this Christmas for the rest of her life as one of the best.
