Work Text:
The witch hunched over her workdesk, patiently repairing her doll’s latest mishap. Polishing away the charred stains, replacing bits that had been too damaged to be salvaged, joining everything back together with glue and magic. It’s frowned upon to glue your dolls back together when broken. You're supposed to remake them properly, like new. But she was withdrawn enough not to see people’s frowns very often, and besides, glue felt right for this doll. It didn’t mind, anyway. It didn't care about this body.
She, however, did, and she would've used other methods if she thought they'd be better. Glue was the right fit. After all, the poor thing was so set on breaking itself, a hundred times in a hundred ways, it would feel disrespectful to try to hide the scars. That's not what her house was about, facades and masks and performances. The way she saw it, what was the point of having dolls if you're going to make them hide themselves all the time?
She finished up her work, made sure everything was properly reconnected, and then snapped her fingers, reanimating the little doll on top of her desk. It looked around, orienting itself after the period of dormancy, and blinked twice. Then hopped down off the desk and wandered out of the room wordlessly. This one never thanked her for the repairs like the others did, and that was alright.
