Work Text:
It was finally autumn break, the for Halloween. Kipo was more eager than ever, she would get to celebrate her very first Halloween on the surface! What made her even more eager was that her newly adopted little sister and best friend Wolf would get to celebrate Halloween for the first time EVER. Benson and Dave usually dressed into funny costumes on Halloween, but Wolf didn't even know the day existed.
The soon to be eleven year old had come home from school one day to find Lio and Song putting up Halloween decorations. She had been confused as to why there were skulls and skeletons and fake sprider web everywhere until Kipo explained Halloween to her. Wolf thought that it sounded stupid. Who would want to dress up into silly costumes and ask people for free candy? It didn't make any sense to her!
Kipo was still determined to give Wolf and the rest of her friends the best Halloween ever! Therefore, Kipo, Wolf, Benson, Dave and even Mandu went to the store to get cool outfits. Dave was going to turn into super Dave and dress like the Hulk, which everyone rolled their eyes at. Benson wanted to co-dress with Troy as Oz the Originator, which everyone thought was adorable. Kipo wanted to dress up as a disney princess with bloody and torn clothes, but everyone thought that it was too boring and unoriginal, so Kipo eventually settled on just using her jaguar abilities as well as a fake bloody dress that she thought looked cool. Wolf had a harder time choosing since she didn't want to dress up at all, especially not anything childish. In the end, Kipo convinced Wolf to dress up as a werewolf, which the ten year old accepted.
Song decided to dress up as a zombie while Lio wanted to be a vampire. The Oak family was finally ready for the special first Halloween on the surface.
~~~
It was the morning of Halloween. Wolf was woken up by Kipo shaking her, excitedly telling her repeatedly that it was Halloween and that there was no time to stay in bed and sleep. Wolf groaned and turned her back on her big sister, although she was soon pulled out of the bed with the help of Benson.
"Fine then, I'm up!" Wolf groaned before yawning, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.
The youngest girl was pulled out of her bed by her siblings and led downstairs where Lio and Song were waiting for their children. They had made omelettes that looked like ghosts and pumpkins. Kipo was amazed by her parents and immediately sat down to eat. Benson praised Lio and Song for making such a cool breakfast. Wolf sat down on her sest tiredly and watched her food. She had never had something like that before, everything was so new to her which scared her. New was bad. New meant danger.
Lio moaned at the taste of the omelettes, praising Song who had made them. The woman laighed before kissing Lio on his cheek. They ate and talked and Wolf focused on listening, trying to figure out how the day would go so she would be prepared for everything. They would watch scary movies and eat home made Halloween candy. Kipo wasn't the biggest fan of scary movies, but it was fine as long as she could cuddle close to her family whenever she got scared. Benson and Dave loved scary movies, they loved the vibe it gave off. Wolf didn't really care for movies at all. It wasn't real and it was just normal people behind the camera who had read from a script. She had seen real blood, real murder, real cruelty. Some scary movies didn't phase her. But still, she curled into a ball extra close to Song and Kipo who she say between when they watched It 2 and The Nun. The rest of the day, the family spent by getting ready to go out and Kipo tried to explain to Wolf how trick or treat worked so that she wouldn't be confused. When it got dark outside and all of the other children had started to go out, they all put on their costumes and grabbed a bucket to put all of their candy in.
Song and Lio would stay home with the candy to give visiting children. Kipo led her friends around the neighborhood. They chose the most scariest houses first. After knocking on the first door, an old lady opened it and smiled brightly at the kids.
"You look so scary, are you here for some candy?" she asked and everyone nodded happily, raising the bucket towards the lady who chuckled before she left to get the candy.
The rest of the people in the neighborhood reacted just the same. They either said that they looked scary or that they looked adorable. Wolf wasn't trying to look adorable, but she at least got some candy. The bucket was nearly full when the gang made their way back to their house. Song and Lio had nearly no candy left. It was a successfull night. To finish the halloween night off, the Oak's decided to watch another movie. The candy was in one big bucket for everyone to take from. Wolf realized that she loved chocolate and sour candy. Kipo loved the sweet candy with cute names and Benson ate whatever. He loved trying new things. Wolf was cuddled up between Song and Kipo, a smile in her face.
As she was watching her another scary movie, she found herself thinking that she loved halloween.
