Work Text:
The young girl panted heavily as she stopped to hide behind an old shop. The Mod Frogs had given up on chasing her several minutes ago, but she still wanted to be sure that she wouldn't be attacked while her guard was down. Therefore, she didn't move an inch as she waited and listened for any sounds that could indicate that she was still being followed.
The young girl had only lived by herself, without a fake family to wait for the perfect time to eat her, for barely a week now. She wasn't yet used to needing to take care of herself. Her so-called 'parents' had always been the ones to get her food. She had never been taught how to hunt by herself, but she was slowly learning by using the few survival skills they had taught her during the year she lived with the wolves.
When the girl decided that she was safe, she entered one of the shops that surrounded her. She hadn't found a place to stay at just yet. It was safer to move from place to place to make sure that the mutes would never find her. But it was exhausting to find a new place to sleep at every night. At least the shops gave her a roof above her head and some shelter from the dangerous animals that wandered around during the nights. She still had to be on guard at every single moment, though.
The girl laid down on the ground and curled up into herself, trying to settle down and go to sleep, but she just didn't feel safe. Anyone could find her and kill her while she was asleep. She wouldn't really call herself a deep sleeper, but she couldn't take any risks. She needed to stay safe, no matter what. She had heard her old papa talk about traps around the forest where she had lived with the wolves. They were made in case intruders tried to take his territory. The young girl had never been taught how to make traps by herself, but it was a good idea. A trap would alarm her if someone got too close to her while she slept.
With the new idea in mind, the young child got up from the ground and started searching for ropes. Luckily, it didn't take long before she found a bundle of ropes in a carton. She took the ropes back to the room where she planned to sleep and started to figured how she would put up the trap. The second anyone tried to get through the door, they would be caught in the rope and be hanging from the roof. She just had to figured out how to tie the ropes together.
The girl looked at the ropes. She had no idea how to tie a rope. The only thing she had ever tied was... Flower bracelets...
Wait...
Flower bracelets!
The little girl smiled to herself as she grabbed the ropes and started tying them together just like she would do with the flower bracelets she used to make with Margot. She did a double knot just in case, to make sure it wouldn't break. When the trap was finished, the girl felt very proud of herself.
She could do stuff by herself after all, without the need of someone else to protect her. She had needed to remind herself about that many times even after she had killed half of her former family. It was hard living by herself when there had always been someone to take care of her during her whole 5 year old life.
But she managed to survive all by herself.
With the new trap making her feel a lot safer, the young girl laid down on a spot on the floor, back pressed up against the wall with her face turned towards the door to make sure that nobody would be ale to sneak yo on her whine she slept. She yawned and wrapped her pelt around her a little tighter to keep her warm during the cold Las Vistas night.
Closing her eyes, the girl fell into a deeo slumber, feeling protected by her own trap as she dreamed about happiness and flower bracelets.
