Chapter Text

It was a dark and stormy night at the Owl House. The Boiling rain poured upon the rotting carcass of the Titan as a certain Owl Lady brewed something on a large pot, a tiny creature running up to her as she did.

“Eda! What are you making?”

“Dinner, King,” the woman replied. “Now please go play elsewhere, I’ll be done soon and I don’t want to accidentally add you to the menu.”

The creature walked away, just in time for Hooty, the living embodiment of the Owl House itself, to shout:

“Hoot hoot! You have a visitor, Eda!”

“A visitor?” Eda repeated with skepticism. “What sort of madman or woman goes out during the boiling rain besides me?”

Using some magic to keep the pot brewing, Eda walked to the door as Hooty opened it, revealing a woman clad in pink robes, holding a parasol blocking the boiling rain in one hand and a basket in the other.

But the thing that made Eda recognize the woman was when she opened her eyes, revealing three green, glowing pupils.

“Ah, Bosede Ballad! Of course, who else would do something crazy like this?” Eda shook her head and chuckled. “Wanna come in?”

“I’d love to, Edalyn, but I’m afraid I don’t have time for that,” Bosede sighed. “I… need to ask you for a favor.”

“You? Asking anybody a favor?” Eda remarked. “How bad are things on your end?”

Bosede took a deep breath. “As you know, my wife has something of a rivalry with Odalia going on, and things have become more tense lately. I feel like, sooner or later, they’ll end up using their own daughters to get at each other. And that’s something I don’t want for my little Boscha.”

Eda’s eyes widened. “You have a daughter?”

Bosede eventually handed the basket to Eda, revealing a baby with three eyes inside. Eda’s eyes widened at the sight of the creature, and faced the woman as she explained:

“I want Boscha to have a life without being used as a weapon to appease her mother’s grudge. I’ll do my absolute best to keep Chadini at bay, but I need someplace to hide Boscha until she calms down, and I don’t know anybody else I can trust.”

Eda blinked twice. “Okay, if you’re calling me someone trustworthy, then things must be really bad with your wife.”

“Like you wouldn’t believe,” Bosede sighed. “Listen, I don’t have anybody else to go to. The Owl House is the safest place I can hide Boscha, and yes, I know how messed up that sounds… but that doesn’t change the fact I have no choice.”

Eda glanced between the woman and the baby, and sighed:

“You know I can’t take care of a kid, Bosede. I already have a pet-companion-guy to take care of; adding an actual kid to the house would-”

Bosede promptly took out 100000 snails and handed them to Eda, driving the woman speechless.

“I’ll send you snails every month to be able to take care of yourself, Boscha, and the tiny companion. All I ask in return is that you keep her safe until… she can return home, I hope.”

“Bosede, she looks nothing like me,” Eda pointed out. “Even if I manage to keep the fact I’m technically adopting her a secret, she’s gonna want to know about her real mothers eventually, you know?”

“... I’ll mentally prepare myself for that day. But for now… I need to make sure our home is more fit to raise her,” Bosede smiled with a pained expression. “Anyway, thanks again, Edalyn… you don’t know how much this means to me.”

With those words spoken, the woman turned around and left, Eda walking back in as Hooty closed the door and she placed the basket on the couch. This happened just as King arrived, quickly noticing the new member.

“Oooh! An offering!” he chirped. “Is it good? Can I eat it?!”

“It’s not food, silly, it’s…” Eda sighed. “It’s complicated. But she’s gonna stay with us for a while.”

“Oooh, a new companion?” King ran around the basket. “Is it my new sister?!”

“... Yeah, I guess you can say that,” Eda chuckled. “You have a brand new sister, King!”

“Yay! I get to be a big brother!” King glanced at the baby. “Can I name her?!”

“She already has a name, King.”

Eda took a closer look at the baby, then smiled as she said to herself:

“Boscha Clawthorne… that’s got a nice ring to it, wouldn’t you say?”
