“I said I was sorry!”

“Sorry doesn’t help us right now, Kara!”

“Don’t shout at me.” Kara pouts. “Everything will be just fine, I promise.”

Lena turns away from her, her feet sinking into the sand of the beach. “We are trapped on an island in the middle of nowhere, Kara. I don’t see how anything is going to be just fine.”

Kara wriggles her toes wishing for nothing more than to be barefoot so she can feel the sand against her skin. “Let’s take a walk up the beach, there might be someone around to help us.”

“We’re on a deserted island, there won’t be anyone to help us.”

“There’s no proof it’s deserted, you’re just assuming that. Come on.” Kara offers her elbow to Lena, jiggling it a little when Lena doesn’t immediately grab hold and start walking with her.

Lena takes her arm with a huff, trudging her way through the sand in her ungodly heels, wincing at the abrasion of the sand catching beneath her toes.

The crashing of waves soothe Lena’s headache somewhat, the water a calming device that she didn’t know she needed in this precarious situation.

“I just – I thought you’d gotten better at knowing when you’re at your limits, so having you be forced to land on a random island because your powers are giving out is a really strange thing to happen,” Lena says, voice much calmer now.

Kara shakes her head. “I thought so too, it just hit me that I felt tired and then it became harder to fly. There’s a chance that I could have made it back but I didn’t want to risk trying when I had such precious cargo.”

That draws a smile out of Lena, albeit a small one.

With Lena’s hand wrapped tightly around Kara’s arm, using her as a crutch so she doesn’t lose her footing in the loose sand, they wander on along the beach. Lena’s nerves rise while Kara looks perfectly serene, content in their stroll.

It’s only when Lena sees the comforting wisps of smoke from up the beach and nestled into the treeline that she lets herself smile. “Kara, if there’s fire then there must be people!”

Kara grins at her. “Let’s go check it out then.”

Kara has to scurry to keep up with Lena, her hand still clinging to the blonde’s arm as she drags her across the sand, never taking her eyes off the smoke.

They reach the treeline, Kara wrapping her arm around Lena’s waist when they get close enough to see the flames.

It’s a full-fledged bonfire, set up perfectly with log benches surrounding the fire pit. Lena turns to Kara, excited. “I think we hit it jackpot.”

“Yeah, and take a look up there, babe.” Kara points up a small gravel path leading further into the trees to where a wooden chalet sits in a small clearing.

Lena’s jaw drops. “What the—“

“I may have told a tiny lie about losing my powers. Happy surprise vacation!” Kara grins, chest puffed out in pride.

Lena stares at her, eyes wide and lips parted. “Are you being serious?”

“Deadly, I sorted it out with Jess and Sam for them to get you the week off and I took some of my vacation time from CatCo. J’onn and Nia are taking over my patrols and I checked the signal watches were all functional before I left. Our bags are already inside, Sam packed yours for you.”

A fond glaze overcomes Lena’s face, blown away that she has someone in her life so willing to go to these lengths for her. “You set up a surprise vacation for us?”

“I did. You want to check out the chalet?” Kara is practically jumping for joy that Lena seems to like her surprise and hasn’t tried to complain about missing work.

Lena takes her up on her offer right away, grabbing Kara’s hand as they walk, a lot more relaxed now she knows they aren’t stranded here. Thank fuck.

The chalet is beautiful, both inside and out. The space is open and light, plants littering almost every surface. Kara takes her right through to the bedroom.

Lena giggles at the rose petals covering the bed and the bottle of champagne waiting for them in an ice bucket on one of the nightstands. “Why, Ms Danvers, are you trying to seduce me?”

Kara smiles as she pulls Lena into a kiss before whispering against her lips. “Maybe, is it working?”

Lena suddenly pulls back. “Was it complimentary with the booking?”

The look on Kara’s face gives her answer away.

“Knew it.” Lena hit her with a cheeky grin. “Nice try though, darling.”

Kara’s shoulders slump and her lips form a pout. “Fine, fine. It was complimentary, but I still very much intend to enjoy it.”

“Me, too. Shall we crack the champagne open?”

Kara grabs the bottle and the glasses sitting beside the ice bucket. “How about we take this outside? It will be nice to sit by the pool with a glass.”

Kara wanders outside with Lena hot on her heels. “There’s a pool too?”

Lena gasps at the pool around the back of the chalet, the sun glistening through the water. “You’ve outdone yourself.”

“Why, thank you.” Kara drops pours the champagne and places the bottle between two lounge chairs then presses the button to make her super suit dematerialize.

It’s not Lena’s fault that her girlfriend is extraordinarily hot and is now standing in front of her in nothing but a bikini, looking absolutely radiant. “That’s an even better surprise.”

Kara Danvers in a midnight blue bikini with all of her godly muscles on show – yes, please.

Lena licks her lips. “Damn.”

Kara hits Lena with the sexiest smirk she’s ever seen her pull off. “Good?”

“Great, I’m going to go see if Sam packed me anything good, I wouldn’t want you to feel like you’re the only one making an effort.” Lena looks back over her shoulder at Kara one last time, praying that her best friend has packed her something that will make Kara drool.

She comes out not two minutes later in a simple black bikini with straps scissoring across her waist. She’s not all that fond of them because of the tan lines she’s certain they’ll leave but all in all, this is the perfect set to make Kara lose her mind.

And lose her mind, she does. “Lena…I – wow. You’re beautiful.” Kara stutters out.

“Thank you, darling.” Lena takes the seat next to Kara, picking up her glass of champagne and taking a sip. “Although, I can’t see us staying clothed for much longer.”

Kara grins like Lena just presented her with the biggest plate of potstickers in the world. “I’m buying what you’re selling.”

Lena has to admit how endearing it is that she has ended up with a little puppy dog of a girlfriend. She really is the perfect match for her, happy to indulge Lena in her science-y rambles late at night, always boosting her self-esteem that was shattered before they met, and when necessary, she’s willing to put her foot down and tell her when she’s making a mistake, being a jerk or not looking after herself.

“Thank you for this.” Lena drops her sunglasses from the top of her head to cover her eyes so she can see Kara better.

Kara shrugs, a little shy. “It wasn’t all selfless.”

“That doesn’t mean you haven’t done something incredible for us. The only bad part of your planning was your strange idea to make me think we were stranded.”

Kara winces in embarrassment. “That wasn’t planned, I just couldn’t come up with any other excuse on the spot for why we had to land here, and I wanted you to be surprised when you saw the chalet.”

“Yeah, you’ve never been good at excuses, it’s one of your more endearing qualities, but in all seriousness, I am really grateful. I can’t believe you actually pulled it off.”

Kara laughs at Lena’s shock. “Well, I had help. I just knew that we needed a break, Lately, we’ve been falling asleep on our feet between work and helping out with the set-up of the new DEO. When Jess called me last week to tell me that you’d fallen asleep at your desk and I struggled to muster the energy to come get you, I knew we needed time to recharge. Jess did a lot of the work really.”

“I’m not all that surprised about that, but you’re right, we’ve been dead on our feet for weeks and something needs to give.”

“Yep, and what needs to give, is the masseuse across the island needs to give me a massage.”

“There’s a masseuse?”

“Yep.”

“I love you.”

Kara shakes her head at Lena’s sudden burst of excitement. “I know, I have us booked for a couples massage tomorrow, we get to relax for the rest of the day and then I was thinking that we could take a walk along the beach at sunset followed by snuggling by the firepit.”

“I double love you.”

“I love you too, now, I think that these bikinis are restricting our blood flow and should be removed instantly for safety reasons.”

“I’m all for safety.” Lena stands, a goofy smile in place despite her sultry tone, and drops her bikini and revelling in the way Kara’s eyes ravish her. She truly feels like the most loved woman on the planet.
