Chapter Text
Pulling his Corvette up to the curb, Lucifer cut off the engine and stepped out. He slipped through the chaos of police with confidence.
“Hello, Detective,” he purred as he swaggered up next to Chloe Decker. He pulled on his sleeves, adjusting his cuffs. “So what do we have here?” He glanced around looking for the reason they were there. The lawn of the modest Californian home was well maintained. It held no evidence of the crime inside.
Chloe finished nodding at the officer talking to her and turned her attention to Lucifer. “Not sure,” she said as she turned and made her way up the walk towards the house. “It looks like a home invasion, but there are no signs of forced entry.”
Lucifer glanced at the door jam as they crossed into the house. “So someone they knew?”
“Don’t know,” Chloe said, unwilling to guess without further information. “But it didn’t go well for the intruder.” Carefully, she led the way across the room to where Ella was crouched next to the body poking at it. “Hey, Ella. What cha got?”
The sheer amount of blood flung around was impressive. Lucifer was only halfway listening to Ella wax on about blood splatter when his eyes landed on something. His heart stuttered as the world dropped away and he focused on that one item. “Excuse me,” he said, interrupting Ella’s observations. He crossed the room as the two women stopped talking to focus on him. “What’s this?” He crouched down next to the thing. He could feel the power bubbling off it. Pulling a pen from his pocket he poked at the object.
“There’s a whole bunch more in the other room,” Ella said as she nodded her head towards the back of the house. “I thought someone might have had chicken last night, but the feathers are huge.”
Horrified, Lucifer stood up and turned to the tech. “Show me,” he demanded. His eyes flashed with power.
Chloe looked at him in shock. She dropped her eyes to Ella to find the tech just as surprised.
“Yeah,” Ella said as she stood up and led the way to the kitchen. “There.” She pointed to a pile of feathers strewn over the floor.
The detective gasped as she recognized the footlong primary feather mixed with the rest. She turned and looked at Lucifer. “Is that…”
He nodded his head before walking over to the pile of feathers. “Yes,” he growled.
“Detective,” an officer called from the door on the other side of the room.
Chloe gave him her attention.
“I think you should see this.”
