   Worms, grave-gray, fall from his father’s mouth while he speaks. They curl onto the empty plate and crawl towards Aegon. “I chose Rhaenyra. A girl, weak and soft. Over you, my firstborn son.”

   “Why?” Aegon asks him. He never thought to ask this before, yet now that he does, realizes how it has festered within him. In this, they are alike, at last. Festered, putrid men, the both of them.
