“Oh… my… god! How did I get here?” A groan escaped the lanky blonde. “What am I doing?” Their every step toward the bike was cautious. As they walked, every chance to glance away to scan for an escape was used. “What in my life led up to this??”
“Oh, simmer down, Toaster. We haven't even gotten to the fun bit yet!” Xyx happily took extreme delight in his lover's nerves. “C’mon babe, I’ll make sure you're safe ♡”
Toast groaned again, this time with a blush spreading across his face. “Fine. You better.” Their words came out like the grumble of a kid who didn't get a chocolate.
Xyx chuckled and took Toaster's hand in his to kiss the back of it before fashioning them in one of his helmets. “I promise.” He put his own helmet on after grinning at them wide, the usual debonair aura about him. “Now,” Xyx straddled the motorcycle. “Get on. Keep close. Hold on tight.”
“Okay…” Toast did as he asked, terrified out of his right mind yet deeply trusting of Xyx. “And now…?” They wrapped their arms around Xyx’s torso, locking their hands together at his stomach.
“Try to keep your posture neutral. Look over my inner shoulder without shifting your weight.” Xyx let one of his hands meet Toasty's, giving them an encouraging rub. “It'll help me navigate through turns with a steady mass.”
“Mmm, okay!” Toast nodded. “I can do that much.” They squeezed him, gently. Like an awkwardly-from-the-back-on-a-motorcycle type hug.
“Good to hear. Let's get a move on, then, yeah?” He moved his hand back to the handle and flipped away the kickstand. “Wouldn't want to miss the sunset, huh, Love?” Xyx chuckled.
Toast gave another nod as Xyx started for the street, the engine practically purring beneath the two of them. He definitely took good care of this bike.
Xyx began at a manageable speed, just what you’d expect of a law abiding citizen who enjoys pushing limits. “Now, practically nobody ever comes by these roads.” He spoke loud enough for Toast to properly hear him. “Makes ‘em a perfect candidate for today.”
‘These roads’ that he was mentioning were ones leading up a mountain, towards the peak. The reasons why people wouldn't often go there are because it was towards the back of town and the way you got there was nothing short of complicated. Despite that, it was a gorgeous sight to behold all the way through. From there you could see all the trees and buildings from far above, leveled with some of the birds.
It was especially beautiful with the wide array of fall colours on all the foliage, Toasty thought. “It's really nice here. I like it.” The fear that was plaguing them earlier had no place in their heart now, the scenery put their mind at full ease.
“Right? Right?” Xyx laughed, happy to share one of his joys with Toaster. “I like coming out here sometimes.” His tone was sweet as he began to reminisce. “Funny story, actually. I found Cat somewhere along this road.”
“Oh? No kidding?” Toast’s interest was hooked even deeper. Just because he joined the household after Cat doesn't mean that he loved the kitty any less. In fact, they were sincerely fond of them.
“Yeah! Poor thing, it was. I’m… glad to be able to provide it with a warm home.” The smile Xyx wore could be heard through his every word. It spread to Toasty’s face, too. “And I’m glad that you could be a part of that home, Doll.”
“Y’know, yeah. I’m really glad as well!” Toaster’s grin was wide, their cheeks almost aching. “I was always so glued to the world of final fantasy fourteen that I had forgotten life exists outside of it.”
“Haha. I’m good for you ‘cause I get you to touch grass, is what you’re saying?” Xyx teased, pulling up to a clearing near the top of the mountain. Surrounding the two was almost pure nature, it was so genuinely breathtaking.
“Hmm, maybe that's part of it!” They chuckled, giving him another soft squeeze. “Maybe I’m just using you to check off my bucket list!”
Xyx rolled his eyes with an amused huff. “Oh no, my darling love has forsaken me! I was but a tool all along! How am I intended to ever recover?” He snickered, the banter they shared was always one of his favourite delights.
The same rung true for Toasty, ever the happy participant to Xyx’s teasing. They might not admit it but they loved to indulge him in all of his antics. The witty remarks continued as they both dismounted the bike and as Xyx led Toasty to a ledge-like spot flourished with grass and blooms. Out of a messenger bag Xyx pulled a picnic blanket and set it down. Off came their helmets too, promptly used as weights to keep the blanket from flying off.
“Here, sit down, Toaster. Let's enjoy the sunset, hey?” He held Toast’s hand in his as he half sat half laid onto the blanket.
“Yeah… Thank you for bringing me here, Xyx. I really appreciate it.” Toast beamed at his lover, joining him by resting their head in his lap.
“Anything for you, Love.” Xyx couldn't help but run his fingers through their hair, playing with the delicate strands.
“Hey! Who was the one who warned me about promising ‘anything’?” Toast’s shoulders shook with laughter.
Xyx kissed their scalp. “Anything for you.”
