Chapter Text
Tetra personally wasn’t sure what she thought of it.
Becoming some island girl? When she was once the most feared pirate in the 4 seas? People from Faron to Akkala feared her name.
Yet here she sat, toes buried deep in the sand, her blonde hair left to be blown in the wind.
It has been 7 years since she and Link felled Ganondorf. 7 years since she had last gone out on sea. At first she and Link had gone in search of a new land, a new place to call Hyrule. That was before the ghost ship incident. Her childhood recklessness had gotten her captured by Bellum and her life force drained from her, turning her to stone. It was like a fever dream, she could hardly remember anything. The only thing she could remember was when she had awoken, Link, her closest friend in tears, holding her close to himself. It had taken him many hours to explain just what had happened. Her body had been shattered within its prison of stone.
Even now she was still left with scars all over her body. Pale lines that stood stark against the tan of her skin.
It was at that moment that she, her crew, and Link had agreed on returning to Outset Island; it was clear that they were far from ready to handle the real world around them. Luckily for her and her crew the people of the island had been more than willing to take them in. It was in that time she had met two people who she didn’t know existed, Link’s parents. Link’s father was a tan skinned alpha with rusty brown hair, along his body he had all sorts of tattoos that Link was more than eager to explain the meaning of. His mother was a pale skinned omega, she had golden blonde hair and eyes like the sea. Their scents of tangy exotic oils and soft fruit juice was a strange but lovely combination that suited each other oddly well. Akan and Irida respectively.
During her stay the people of the island had taken to calling her Zelda, preferring that name over the one her mother had given her. It hurt a bit but she didn’t really mind it. Though she would admit that Link and her crew still calling her Tetra helped quite a bit with her insecurity.
She had learned a lot about Link while living on Outset. For example his pure terror of spiders. It was quite the experience to see him standing on the table, shrieking, and pointing his sword at a tiny spider in the corner. Though he had also come to learn a lot about her, specifically her insomnia. She doesn’t entirely remember just how he found only that Link now checks in on her with his Pirate’s Charm at random periods of the night and if she’s up he’ll come over and put her to bed himself.
In the time of living in Outset a lot had happened, though the biggest thing that comes to mind would have been both of them presenting.
Typically, you wouldn’t know whether or not you’d be an Alpha, Beta, or Omega. Typically. There was only one real exception to that, and that was if you were a male omega or female alpha.
Up until about the age of 15 or 16 you don’t have a scent. You can still smell the scents of others but you wouldn’t be affected by their pheromones, that’s typically how children tell their parents apart from others. Because of this lack of scent, you typically wouldn’t know if a child is an alpha, beta, or omega. And despite common belief, your secondary gender is chosen at birth, the best example of this would be female alphas and male omegas. This specialness is because of one thing, their intersex genitalia. Of course, it’s considered horribly rude to just up and ask anyone about their genitalia. So this information typically stays within the family and a doctor or two at most.
But this is also why Tetra was not at all surprised when she presented.
After all, what girl her age had a cock and balls.
She was by all means, an early bloomer. Presenting at the ripe age of 13 going on 14. Because she was still developing, her rut wasn’t anything special. At most she was just more snappy and territorial.
When her rut had finally ended she was allowed to go back outside. The first thing that happened was Akan pushing a glass bottle into her sweaty hand, pills rattling about inside. When she had asked about it he had merely told her it was to prevent her rut. Tetra had heard about something similar to that before but decided against bringing it up to the older man.
After she had put away the bottle of pills, she was greeted with many congratulations. Yet the one she would always remember would be what Link had said to her.
“Wow” he had gasped, his seafoam green eyes sparkling, “You really do smell different!”
Tetra tilted her head slightly before smelling under her arm. “I mean, yeah, I guess I’m in need of a shower.” She shrugged, putting her arm down unless she got more disappointed stares from those around them. She keeps forgetting that things are different around here.
Despite her rather open display, Link laughed, slapping her on the shoulder. “Not like that, cucco brain! I mean your actual scent!”
Tetra’s eyes widened with understanding, “Oh, right… Of course I already understood!” She said laughing her confusion off, “I was just testing you!”
Link rolled his eyes playfully, “Yeah I bet.”
They both laughed it off before a question came to Tetra’s mind.
“What do I smell like?” She asked Link.
“Umm…” Link leaned over to sniff her neck, right next to her gland. When he pulled back he tapped his chin in thought. “I’d say… hmm… the sea. A mix of salty waves and the slightest undertone of tropical fruits, not really sweet but more bitter.
“Huh.” Tetra said, “Strange.”
Link had shrugged with a smile, “I like it,” he said, ignoring Tetra’s raised eyebrow. “It suits you. Reminds me of you.”
“Well I guess it would suit me if it were my scent.” Tetra said with a shrug.
“Maybe,” Link said, “Granny always talked about how Grandpa’s scent was really spicy and bitter but despite that she said that he was like an oversized teddy bear, especially to mom.” Tetra moved to say something else but Link had been called away by his mother holding a basket of coconuts. “Coming mom!” Link had called back to her before giving Tetra an apologetic glance, “Sorry, gotta go, mom’s orders.” Before he ran off to follow his mother.
Yet while watching him run off, Tetra was left with one question: How would Link smell?
It had been nearly 6 years since then and Link still had yet to present.
