Summary
Two weeks following Princess Kikyō Genryusai Yamamoto’s birth, the entire imperial family was massacred. All under the order of one Aizen Sōsuke, chief architect and Yakuza kingpin. To Emperor Genryūsai Yamamoto, he extends an offer of his his organization’s protection and resources, as well as the restoration of the royal bloodline—all in exchange for the princess’s hand in marriage by her 18th birthday, as well as the rights to the Hōgyoku, an ancient holy weapon long guarded by the Imperial Family. Such would grant Aizen insurmountable political, economic, even cosmic power. Over the next decade, Aizen trains Kikyō as a future warrior and strategist for the Yakuza.
Despite accepting the offer, Emperor Genryūsai has other plans. He employs Kikyō to be the agent and protector of the Hōgyoku, with a sole mission: keep its powers out of Aizen’s reach. By any means necessary. The princess herself is apprehensive of what could come of her wielding such powers, and finds herself torn between continuing the provocative charade between her and her betrothed traitor and guarding the Hōgyoku, or simply allowing the world’s longest extant monarchy to burn out with her. After all, she is cursed no matter what.
