Work Text:
The Dark Prom was one of Nevermore’s yearly events. Everyone looked forward to it, with the exception of Enid.
Each year no one ever asks Enid to the Dark Prom. She was always sitting alone at the tables, watching everyone else have all the fun.
The one year Enid was not alone was when she and her friends decided to go to prom together without dates. That ended with them ditching at the sirens after party.
The after party began before the prom even ended.
As much fun as it would be to redo last year, the blonde swore she would not go this year.
As usual, Enid couldn’t get her way.
When her sunshine of a roommate came to Nevermore after trying to murder the water polo team or was it the science club? The story changes every week, it’s hard to keep track of it.
The point is Enid thought she was done with the Dark Prom for good, but when Wednesday arrived everything changed.
Enid felt something she hasn’t felt before, a feeling Enid could only describe as love.
It was as if a magnet she pulling her toward the girl.
Enid didn’t this feeling to stop.
The blonde had planned to ask Wednesday to the dance at the same time, but she didn’t. She was afraid Wednesday won’t feel the same. Enid kept making up excuses to herself as to why she shouldn’t ask Wednesday out.
As the Dark Prom drew nearer Enid still hadn’t asked Wednesday out.
When Enid approached the topic of the prom, Wednesday had said she already had a date and that was the end of that.
She was currently talking to a fellow werewolf (talking wouldn’t be the right word) The werewolf was talking a mile a minute, while Enid tried to keep up.
Whatever her packmate was saying faded into the background as Wednesday descended the stairs.
Enid was staring.
Of course, she was staring, how couldn’t she be? Wednesday was absolutely stunning in that dress. Her skin was pale against her black dress (even more so than usual). Her dress had ruffles and her hair was put up instead of her usual braids.
Enid’s smile faded as she noticed Tyler was walking beside Wednesday, he looked scared stiff as he walked down the stairs.
All eyes were on the pair.
Sure, you were allowed to bring anyone to the Dark Prom, but it had been an unspoken rule that you were not allowed to bring anyone outside of Nevermore, especially normies.
Wednesday broke that rule. Twice. Sooner or later, there were going to be upshots.
“Isn’t that the new girl everyone’s talking about?” Enid heard a siren whisper on the other side of the room.
Other students joined in on the gossip.
“That’s Wednesday Addams.”
“As in Morticia Addams?”
“I heard she’s related to Ignatius Itt“
“Who wears black to the Dark Prom? The invite clearly said white.”
Suddenly everything about Tyler infuriated her. The way he would stumble around aimlessly, the way he would talk. Hell, even the way he stands annoys her.
She shouldn’t feel so… bothered by it. Wednesday and her were just friends. That’s all.
“Jealous?” A voice asked, before sliding down next to her.
“No, I’m not!” Enid shouted before she even registered who the voice belonged to. Enid quickly covered her mouth, cheeks turning red from embarrassment. She scanned the room to see if anyone heard her outburst. Only werewolves from the school pack and a small number of vampires looked her way.
Stupid enhanced hearing.
She turned and faced the person who sat beside her, the voice belonged to none other than Yoko Tanaka.
They continued to stare at each other for a good minute before Enid realized she was waiting for a response.
“Shouldn’t you be with Bianca?” Enid said quickly trying to change the subject.
“Family trouble” Yoko dismissed.
Enid nodded, wanting to ask more, but she didn’t. Whatever can make Bianca miss the Dark Prom had to be important.
“Addams, huh?”
Yoko was staring at the dance floor in front of them.
“What? No! Don’t be ridiculous.”
The vampire shrugged nonchalantly before taking a sip from a cup of blood she bought with her.
“Whatever you say.”
Enid’s eyes drifted towards Wednesday again.
She frowns at what she was looking at, Tyler and Wednesday were dancing.
That shouldn’t bother Enid as much as it did. Wednesday wasn’t her’s, they weren’t dating, and she could hang out with them however she wanted. They were just friends anyway.
But it did, there was something about Tyler’s hand on Wednesday's waist that made her feel furious. If she could shift, she was sure she would’ve already pounced on him.
Unknown to Enid, Yoko was watching the whole thing unfold before her.
Smiling to herself, Yoko suddenly stood up.
Enid’s gaze landed on Yoko, standing beside her, she was wearing a dark purple button-down shirt with a black tie and oversized pants, and to top it all off she was wearing a trench coat.
Enid nearly giggled when she realized what else Yoko was wearing, suspenders.
Only Yoko Tanaka could make suspenders look cool.
“Would you care to dance?” Yoko asked as she began to bow, one hand was behind her back, while the other was held out for Enid to take.
The blonde looked around the room, trying to see if there was a possibility Yoko was talking to someone else.
People were looking at them in amazement, others with contempt. It was mostly directed at Enid.
“What?” Enid gaped at the girl before her. She couldn't believe what she was seeing.
“Would you care to dance?” She repeats.
Yoko gestured her head in the direction Wednesday and Tyler were dancing.
Yoko raised her brow, hoping Enid got the hint.
Enid nodded and grabbed her hand.
Yoko pulled Enid onto the dancefloor and they started dancing.
Tyler was in no way a bad dancer, but next to Wednesday, who moved as if she were a snake enchanting her prey, he looked like an amateur.
When she looked back at Yoko, she was smirking at her. She didn’t even have to open her mouth for Enid to know what she was going to say.
"For the last time," Enid says, glaring at Yoko "I am not jealous!" She emphasized each word slowly.
“Sure you aren’t.” Her voice was filled with amusement. “And I’m not a vampire.”
Enid took one last glance at Wednesday and Tyler before looking back at Yoko.
“Is it that obvious?” Her voice sounded more insecure than she wanted it to be.
“To all except a certain homicidal maniac.”
Enid looked at Yoko’s outfit once more. Everyone else was wearing all white, but Yoko was wearing all dark colors, just like Wednesday.
“We were supposed to match, it being ‘dark’ prom and all.”
Enid knew Yoko was referring to Bianca. She might not show it, but Enid knew she was disappointed Bianca wasn’t here with her.
The music stopped playing and Yoko let go of Enid.
“Let’s give a round of applause for Principal Weems.” Mrs. Thornhill announced.
The students clapped as Principal Weems walked onto the stage, to begin yet another one of her speeches.
She goes to this every year. She would make a grand speech- that has nothing to do with the prom itself- before announcing the prom king and queen. Last year’s king and queen were none other than Bianca and Yoko. Their popularity flew through the roof when they first started dating.
It would be no surprise if it happened again. Bianca not being here wouldn’t stop her from taking the crown once again.
Suddenly, a scream echoed throughout the hall, followed by several more. Principal Weems was covered in blood from head to toe, her once-white outfit was painted red.
Enid’s first thought was ‘Carrie’. Her second thought was how she got Wednesday to watch Carrie with her that one time.
And her final thought was ‘That smells like blood’.
Mrs. Thornhill was trying to regain control of the situation.
“Everyone out of the hall now!”
Enid spotted Wednesday at the head of the crowd, she was one of the only students not wearing white.
The ravenette was wearing a cynical smile and blood was splattered over her face. She didn’t even look fazed by the sight.
Students were rushing out the doors, while others stood, shocked at the sight. The vampires were grinning from ear to ear.
Yoko looked amused at the whole thing. She slipped out her phone and took a selfie with a bloody Principal Weems in the background, probably to show her girlfriend all the chaos she was missing.
Enid surprised herself with her lack of reaction to Yoko’s antics.
She’s seen Wednesday do weirder things.
Speaking of Wednesday, Tyler came out of the crowd and grabbed her hand, and lead her out of the door.
Enid followed them out, she didn’t know what she was going to do when she caught up to them. All she knew was she wanted to talk to Wednesday and maybe hear her voice.
She pushed through the crowd of students exiting the hall. When she finally got through, Wednesday or Tyler was nowhere to be seen.
She could smell Wednesday’s scent in the air, she smelt like lavender, ashes and you guessed it, blood.
“Enid!” Yoko shouted behind her “We’re taking this party to the dorms, wanna come?”
“Uh…” Enid looked back, wondering if she should follow the scent. “Sure, why not?”
If Wednesday wanted to talk to her she would’ve already. Besides whatever Tyler and Wednesday were doing Enid wanted no part of it.
It was one hour later and her gloomy roommate was nowhere in sight.
“I forgot my phone at the Dark Prom, could you go get it?” Yoko shouted to Enid over the blasting music.
“Uh…okay!”
One of Enid’s bad traits was that she couldn’t say no to anyone.
Enid ran into the hall, it was empty. The blood was still there and so was Wednesday.
The blood on her face was gone and there was dirt on her dress.
“What you doing here?”
“I’m looking her Yoko’s phone.”
Wednesday grimaced at the mere mention of the vampire.
The dark-haired girl stood silent her a while, deep in thought.
“Dance with me.” She stated, out of the blue.
“We don’t have any music.”
“We don’t need music.” Wednesday extended her arm and without thinking, Enid grabbed her hand.
She pulled Enid closer to her and walked towards to middle of the room.
She was humming a song Enid hadn’t heard before.
Enid just now registered how short Wednesday really was.
The blonde closed her eyes, falling into sync with Wednesday’s strange rhythm.
They swayed back and forth, in a circle in the middle of the empty hall. Their hands were interlocked, and Enid’s hand was on Wednesday’s back. The black-haired girl rested her head on Enid’s shoulder.
The only sound that Enid could hear was the hushed voices of the Nevermore students in the dorms. If she focused enough Enid could hear Wednesday’s heart beating in her chest.
It was faster than she thought it would be.
When she opens her eyes she could see Yoko standing at the entrance, she hadn’t even heard her come in.
The vampire lifted up her arm, revealing a phone in her hand. Yoko gave the blonde an encouraging smile. She mouth what looked like ‘You got this’
Did she plan this?
Enid planned on questioning the undead girl later.
Enid gave her a thumbs up and an awkward smile back, carefully trying not to disturb Wednesday.
Yoko smiled at her before dashing away, in the blink of an eye, she was gone.
Enid knew Yoko was going to tease her about this later.
“I wanted to do this all night.” The dark-haired girl whispered in her ear, an eerily calming voice, a gesture that sent shivers down Enid’s spine.
Wednesday grab’s her waist pulling her in.
Their foreheads pressed together.
“Do you want to go out on a date?”
“I’d love to.”
And suddenly it didn’t matter anymore, it didn’t matter that Wednesday went to prom with Tyler because Wednesday she was here with her now, not Tyler. Wednesday had chosen her, not Tyler.
