Work Text:

As Wednesday ascended the stairs she thought of how Enid might react to the stew she made for her.

Will she accept it? Will she like it? Or would she just toss it away, based on the looks, without even tasting it?

Wednesday hopes not. She stayed up late some nights memorizing the recipe. Thing even taught her how to boil it so it was perfect. It was harder to find the ingredients in such a small town. She contacted Pugsley through the crystal ball to send her the ingredients she couldn’t find.

All in hope that Enid might like it.

Wednesday knows feelings were weak, nevertheless, when it came to Enid she just couldn’t help herself. She fell into the madness of love, she tried to bury her feelings deep within her heart, to no avail.

The blonde came into her life with no warning. She forced her to feel things she never felt toward another person before. Emotions she swore she would never feel, good and bad.

When Wednesday arrives at the door, she shifts the tray from one arm to another, as she reaches into her pocket to grab the key.

She walks into the dorm holding a tray with two bowls of stew in her hands.

Enid was waiting for her to take the first bite. In case it was poisoned, no doubt.

Smart move. she thinks, she should’ve been hurt by the implication, yet, Wednesday could only feel a sense of pride due to Enid’s alertness.

She puts a spoonful of stew in her mouth, trying to reassure her.

Just as I remember.

The stew, despite its looks and putrid smell, actually tastes quite good.

It wasn’t until she glanced over at her cheerful roommate, did she realize Enid hadn’t taken a bite.

“Aren’t you going to have some?”

Enid still looked down at the black stew in front of her, she hesitantly took a bite.

Wednesday fully expected Enid to either spit it out or throw it up, but she didn’t, instead, she swallowed it down.

Disgust washed over Enid’s face.

“I know it’s not great, but-“

“No!” Enid shouted, cutting her off. Enid’s eyes widen and drop to the floor, her cheeks were red.

“I-I mean, It’s perfect.”

Wednesday eyed the blonde suspiciously.

Enid’s face showed no resentment, no hesitation, all the fear washed away and replaced with her usual bright smile.

One thing was clear, Enid was being genuine. She wasn’t faking it or pretending just to spear Wednesday’s feelings.

Wednesday mistook Enid’s surprise for disgust.

“It tastes great,” Enid assure her.

“Thank you, it was one of my grandmama’s recipes.”

“Was?” Enid asked carefully, worry filling her voice.

“She now resides in the family cemetery,” Wednesday answered without missing a beat.

Enid opened her mouth to say something but quickly shut it and instead took another spoonful of stew.

Wednesday watched Enid in wonder. The stew was an acquired taste, Wednesday was surprised Enid genuinely enjoyed it. Guess that’s one of the perks of being a werewolf, having an iron stomach, that will eat anything.

For the rest of the meal, every time Wednesday looked over at Enid, trying to determine if the blonde was enjoying her food, Enid either nodded along or complicated Wednesday’s cooking skills. Trying to reassure her. Enid ate every bite without complaint, when Wednesday asked if she wanted more, Enid said it was enough.

After that Wednesday decided Enid was worth the madness that is love.

Notes:

It was hard to get Wednesday’s point of view, I hope I did alright.
