in the woods somewhere

Summary:

After Dani bit Fi, Fi started to change too.

Notes:

disclaimer in case there are impressionable children reading: this is NOT a healthy relationship and if your gf ever turns you into a vampire without your consent you should leave her. that is so uncool. your partner should only ever turn you into a vampire with your full and informed consent. however I think lesbian vampires are neat so I wrote it anyways.

anyway title from hozier again, let's get into it

Work Text:

Fi woke up slowly. She didn’t recognize the room she was in, but she recognized the girl sitting in the chair next to her bed.

“Dani?” she asked.

“Fi! You’re awake!” Dani smiled. Her teeth looked normal again. Fi wondered if the last night was just some kind of weird dream.

“Where am I?” Fi asked.

“Don’t worry about it,” Dani said, reaching out to brush a lock of hair behind Fi’s ear. Her fingers were cold. Fi shivered.

“Where did you take me?” Fi asked.

“You wouldn’t let me into your house,” Dani replied.

Fi blinked. “So?”

“We can’t enter places without an invitation.”

“We?” Fi’s body was wracked with shivers again.

“Well. ‘We’ isn’t exactly accurate. You haven’t quite turned yet.”

“Turned?” Fi was still shaking. “Turned into what?”

Dani smiled. Her canines extended, lengthening into thin, needle-like fangs. “You know what I am, Fi.”

Fi stared. “It wasn’t a dream.”

Dani shook her head, still smiling. “It wasn’t a dream.”

Fi let her head fall back on her pillow, looking at the ceiling, unblinking. Fi didn’t blink a lot. She usually consciously adjusted her blinking rate to avoid creeping people out. Right now, though, she felt like she could keep her eyes open forever.

“What did you do to me?” Fi asked, her voice watery.

“What I’d ask you to do for me,” Dani said smoothly. Her brown eyes were wide, sincere, and very close to Fi’s face.

Fi closed her eyes, pushing Dani away. “Dani…”

“Don’t you see?” Dani pleaded. “We’re the same now. We can be like this forever. We can be together forever.”

Fi shook her head. “Dani…”

Her face crumbled. “You don’t want to be.”

“That’s not-”

Dani stood up and started pacing. “I should have known.”

“Forever… is a long time.”

“It doesn’t have to be.” Dani whipped around.

“Yes it does,” Fi said. “That’s the definition of forever.” She shivered again. “I’m cold.”

Dani’s eyes softened. She moved closer and tucked Fi’s blanket back around her. “Rest a bit. You need it.”

Fi wanted to protest, but Dani pushed her back down onto the bed. “Rest.”

“No,” Fi said, but something about Dani’s voice was too soothing. Shivering, she clutched the blanket tighter, and the last thing she felt before she fell asleep was the sudden weight and warmth of a new blanket laid on top of her.

She woke up after a dark, dreamless sleep. Dani was sitting on her bed this time, the indentation she left warm and familiar. Fi rolled towards it, half asleep, nearly reaching out before she remembered where she was. She jerked away, crawling to the other side of the bed.

“Feeling better?” Dani asked.

Fi considered. There was a slight ache in the back of her head, and her body felt slightly empty. Her stomach grumbled.

“Are you hungry?” Dani asked.

Fi recoiled at the suggestion. “No.”

Dani frowned. “You need to feed. It’s only natural.”

Sweet, vegetarian Dani. Fi shuddered. “I can’t,” she whispered.

Dani was silent. “It’s almost sunset. I’m going out soon.”

Fi stared at the sheets.

“You don’t have to eat. I-” Dani swallowed. “I’m full. I won’t need to feed for at least another week.”

Full of Fi’s blood and god knows what else, but when Fi looked up, Dani’s eyes were the same chocolate brown as always.

“Come with me,” Dani asked softly. “It’s not all bad. Super strength. Super speed. Never being tired.” Dani smiled, her canines glimmering and needlelike. “No headaches.”

Fi gave a small laugh-sob at that. Dani knew she had been plagued by headaches for her entire life.

“Please,” Dani said, and that was all it took.

Fi sat up and let the blankets fall from her shoulders. She wasn’t cold anymore. Not warm, just… not cold. She suspected she would never be cold again. “I’ll come.”

Dani took her hand. Dani’s hand wasn’t cold anymore, either. “You won’t regret it.”

Fi followed Dani, and the strange, feral look in her eyes, into the night.
