Chapter Text

Kim Rok Soo.

He wasn't particularly happy nor disappointed at life, if he could say something it would be that his life wasn't the one he expected to have when he was a adult.
Who would have imagine that he wouldn't work at a normal office or have an average life, the world had turned into a place ruled by monsters.

The humans that survived gained abilities and had grown over the losses, most of them were killed for trusting the shelters too much.
That included him. But unlike them he survived, again...

As time passes and the seasons changes, the people also did. They overcome theirs fears and strive for a better future, they now had organizations and fought monsters side to side. It was a rather civil world again.

Kim Rok Soo survived through those changes like a flowing river. He accepted the new reality faster than most, it made him ask himself if that was normal.

He achieved a grand position trough his hard work and strategies.

But maybe because it was human nature. He longed for affection, was he feeling lonely? After all those years? It was strange.

He didn't have someone he'd love to death or a close friend to give his life for.
He was an orphan.

Kim Rok Soo lived just because he was alive.

And as death closed his eyes he had an unfinish dream, a wish.

It didn't matter how small, dumb or impossible it was at the moment. That little spark was like a string of hope for his dying body.

Just like the mind deals with trauma, if you had a regret or a wish strong enough you would survive one way or another. It didn't matter if it was painful, the human brain won't miss the chance to keep you awake. It was like the memories before you die are it's last struggle...

'I wish... I had finished to read that book...'

His head was filled with memories of a time where he could live rather peacefully. The records strated playing by themselves and the new reality he grew accustomed to was nowhere in sight.
The ranked monsters he remembers cristal clear weren't anywhere nor the destroyed buildings or the contaminated air that painted the sky a grey hue

The foreign smell that flowed through his nostrils was of sweet bread and smashed potatoes with rice. It didn't taste like anything amazing, it was sort of bland no matter how much he fed himself in that memory.

His stomach did not complain as much, it was full and warm.

This was the first time he ate a proper meal after a long time.

A nice uncle had taken him to his house, he feed him and send him to the orphanage away from his blood related uncle. Kim Rok Soo was thankful for that.

The orphanage feed him, clothed him and gave him a bed to sleep.
In school they also feed him but you had to pay, which he would rather not and cook for himself no matter how lazy he was.

His work was to serve people food and after being trapped inside the destroyed building of his workplace for days, someone gave him food.

It was a chocolate bar, it was sweet and warm.

It gave him life.

Which brings us to this moment, his last regret was that he couldn't finish the book his team leader got for him. He gave that to him as a birthday gift, maybe so he could cook to them for free as they overpraised his hands. They said he was blessed, that everything he made was delicious and more nonsense...

Basically the team leader wanted to make him learn how to cook, like a chef. He also wanted to learn as the monster meat was absolutely terrible if you didn't know how to properly season it.

'...That was a crazy wish from the team leader.'

He closed his eyes as his mind was dizzy.

And he was even crazier to have followed that wish as his own.

All he could hear was ringing, it was as if he had a clock inside his head. He could hear the tik-tak sound coming closer until it turned into silent...

...Ding-Dong!...Ding-Dong!

the bells rang loudly.

He was blacking out now. His memories surrounded his fall, from the moment of the accident to the apocalypse.

His body turned light but his eyelids became heavier restraining his vision. Forcing his eyes to shut down.
He continued falling but he wasn't scared, a cozy feeling was lulling him to sleep.

Woshhhhh

someone came closer, he only felt a feather touch lingering around the hold of the stranger arms.

He was protected, he was safe and so he sleep. Leaving anything to the arms that were holding him towards an unknown place.

Notes:

What did Rok Soo eat when he was with Choi Han? I think they ate takeout????(fried chicken)

Idk and idc it's not that relevant to the plot but i want him to cook various foods and idk anything about Korean food except for jangjamejong (was it written like that?????) Anyway it's delicious.

I also know about kimchi and how it's made but it's a bit overused i think.... TTT leave Korean recipes pls

On another note did you like the re written chapter? It's more long and has more plot.
