It was only after the meeting had ended that Eli finally came to grasp how tired he was. The first signs of exhaustion he felt on their ride back home, as Thrawn was trying to congratulate him on the success, and he could only blurt out half-minded replies.
The second was after they’d made their way to the bedroom and had lied down. The thought of ordering take out instead of cooking had never seemed so appealing before.
“What do you want me to order then?”
“Food…”
“Helpful,” Thrawn hummed and let him be. Between then and now, he must have left, without turning the lamp off. Eli hid his head underneath the blankets.
“Eli, it’s only 2100,” Thrawn giggled above him, brushing a few locks of hair out of his eyes, “come on, dinner’s here!”
The man only let out a long-drawn whining sound in response. Thrawn snorted, and, pulling the blankets off him, placed his hand at the opening of Eli’s robes.
“No…,” Eli groaned, “Another night?”
“I’m just helping you move into your pyjamas, ch’eo vir.” With that reassurance, Eli relaxed fully against Thrawn, letting him take care of the official clothes he hadn’t bothered changing. He breathed out a sigh of relief as his partner turned the lights off.
Once more, the world was blissfully dark and quiet. Save for Thrawn’s glowing red eyes next to him, of course. The man wouldn’t fall asleep for another couple of hours, Eli could guess that much. Still, Thrawn snuggled beside him, letting him rejoice in the extra heat his body provided.
All was fine.
