"Marry me"
"What ?" Touya let out a disbelieving laugh, "we've been dating for what, three months ?"
Keigo's cheeks turned pink and his wings fluttered.
They were both on a roof, watching the sunrise. Keigo had turned to Touya, eyes wide and hopeful; determined too.
"I just - I want- it's the best way for me to tell you how serious I am about this." His eyes bore into Touya's, unblinking, but soft. "I love you. I want you. I can't help but want to," he flushed, "hide you and keep you all for myself. You know red-tailed hawks mate once in their lifetime ? Once they decide on a mate…that's it. And I think you're it. No, I know it. So my residual instincts just want you to stay. Which if you won't I get it I just- had to say it. Plus you're shiny so my bird colllecteur instincts want to steal you away and hide you in the box in my closet."
Touya let out a surprised laugh. "You're so weird birdie."
Keigo's eyes grew big. "But you love me ?"
Touya's grew soft. "But I love you."
Keigo flushed and tore his gaze away from Touya's. "I just- want to make you mine. I mean I know you can't really be mine but-"
"I'm already yours birdsong." Touya whispered. He smiled when Keigo whipped around and his pupils expanded to almost drown his iris and then pinned on him.
The next second he was peppering kissing onto Touya's face with a laugh.
"My dad will be furious though. He doesn't even know we're dating yet." He chuckled at the little bird noises Keigo made nuzzling his cheek.
Keigo giggled in between his happy chirps before giving him a sly smirk. "I just imagine shouting 'Don't touch my fiancé' the next time he's obnoxious towards you, in a very dramatic and saviour manner."
Touya almost choked on his sudden snort."Oh my god that would kill him. I'm not even sure he would understand what you mean."
"So you'll marry me then ?" The hopeful tone and puppy eyes would have done it if Touya hadn't made his decision yet.
"Of course dove, anything for you. Who'd chirp and trill for me like that if I left you anyway ? Too precious for me to let go."
He smiled at the radiante and wobbly expression Keigo's face turned into before grabbing it and kissing him silly. The hero's wings were puffing up and extending behind him, febrile in happiness. When he drew back, a ray of the morning light escaping between Keigo's feathers blinded Touya for a second. The hero took advantage of it.
Touya shrieked when he felt himself being suddenly swept in Keigo's arms. "What are you doing ?!"
"Too shiny, need to hide my handsome fiancé somewhere."
Touya's smile made his own chest warm and cheeks hurt. He buried his face into Keigo's neck as the hero made to leave.
He wasn't a red-tailed hawk but damm did he know he'd made the right choice.
Mate for life huh ? He could work with that.
