Chapter Text

You walked around the streets of Asakusa looking for the fire company operating in the area although you don't feel like asking anyone because you're pretty sure nobody here likes you.

You didn't even want to come here. You wanted to go to one of the bigger companies, one where you're practically invisible with the amount of people there. Or hell, even the smaller ones like company 8 because at least you wouldn't stand out like you would here.

You looked around nervously. Thinking too much leads to stress. That's why it's better to just get on with it than overthink it.

When you finally found it you realise how stupid you were for not noticing it before. After all, the whole building has a good amount of sevens painted on it. At this point you could kill yourself but then you'd be dead and death is painful.

You pushed the cloth out the way and walked in. You saw a man with a scar across his face who welcomed you in.

He has his hair tied in a ponytail(?) and has a lot of bandages under his clothes.

"Are you the new recruit?" The man asked.

"Oh. yes I am" you handed him your resume.

"I'm Sagamiya Konro, I'm the lieutenant here" he took your resume and read it.

You slowly relaxed when he started to read it. Sensing no hostility coming from him. Maybe this area isn't so bad and it's all just your imagination.

"So l/n" the use of your last name made you freeze up immediately. "This is actually the first time we've gotten a recruit from the empire so this'll be a new thing for us too. You don't have to be so tense"

He handed back your resume and you relaxed your shoulders. "Ye-"

"KONRO!!" two little girls with matching blue striped uniforms ran in from the side of the room and jumped onto the lieutenant.

They both had yellow eyes and their hair was parted to the side and tied into a bun with a yellow bow although one had it parted to the right and the other to the left.

They clung onto his clothes then turned their heads towards you at the same time in a very creepy manner.

"Who is this creepy man?!"

"Why is he dressed like that!?"

They slowly inched closer to you and you slowly backed up with every step they took.

"Does he have no sense of style?"

"Why does he stand like that?"

You were completely backed up against the wall and you looked around for help. Sagamiya sighed "Hika. Hina. Stop bothering the new recruit"

"New recruit?!" "Let's see how long he lasts!" They both cheered and ran back to his side.

He sighed. Again. "This is Hikage," he pointed to the girl with her hair brushed to her left. "And this is Hinata," he pointed to the other one with her hair brushed to her right.

"I'm sorry but I don't think I'll remember which twin is which" you admitted scratching your neck.

"Hikage is older"

"I don't think I'd remember their names," you answered.

His tired eyes stared deep into your soul. "Something tells me you will," he ominously replied.

How scary.

After the slight scare, he gave you a tour of the building. Starting from the entrance then moving on to the training area.

There's a man sitting there, meditating. He has shoulder length hair and mismatched eyes. They were both red but his right eye had a circle and the left one had an x shape, like in tic tac toe.

"That's Shinmon Benimaru, he's the captain if the seventh"

The captain turned around to face you. "Who are you?"

"He's the new recruit, l/n y/n," the lieutenant replied.

"Recruit? I've never seen him before." Shinmon genuinely looked confused. It wasn't something you expected from the rumours you heard.

You handed him your resume and he read through it. You looked to the side, not knowing what to do.

"Do we really have to?" He asked

"I don't think we can but this could be beneficial to the company"

"I mean- you can get me to transfer to somewhere else but that would involve a bit of paperwork and-" you paused dramatically "a lot of time considering I just came here"

Shinmon put his hand on his chin, probably thinking about what to do next. He looked over to Sagamiya with a questioning look.

"If you two fight then I can sort of gauge what level you're at so we know what to help you with"

"No..." you looked away from him and played with your fingers. "I'm powerless. I'd obviously get like- absolutely decimated-"

"Is that an excuse?" The Shinmon interrupted.

You hated it when people said that because it's hard to come up with a reply to that.

You uttered a small "fine". You got up and walked in front of the captain. He stood up from his meditating positions and faced you, getting into a fighting stance while you did the same.

You ran forward and threw your knee at his side but he grabbed it with one arm and pushed you aside. You stumbled a bit trying not to fall.

He closed the distance between you and you could barely react when you elbowed his head. It felt like solid steel and you quickly retracted it when he striked you in the stomach.

You fell backwards and landed on your back and your jacket fell off your shoulder. You wheezed from the pain but you got up and faced him.

He stood there in a fighting stance. Clearly waiting for your next move. You looked at him, unsure what to do next. You saw his eyes focused on the black marks on your back and you slipped your jacket back on.

You ran towards him while he was distracted and tried to punch him but he blocked your attack and hit you in the back of your neck.

You fell face first onto the ground. You lied there thinking about what you'd done wrong.

"Please tell me we're not going agai-"

"Do you have tephrosis?" His concern seemed a little out of place considering he was just beating you up a few seconds ago.

"Ooooo Waka's mad" you looked up and saw the twins sitting next to Sagamiya, both holding a snack in their hands. "Do you think he's going to beat him up again?"

You looked back at his darkened face and paused. "No uh- it's just a birthmark" you lied. It wasn't a birthmark, it was just a byproduct of your first generation powers.

"Besides I'm unpowered." you lied again "How would that even work?"

His face became more neutral and he helped you up. You brushed the dust off your trousers and thanked him.

"You're shit at this" you paled at his honesty.

"I could easily telegraph your first attack and your posture(?) leaves you vulnerable to attacks at any moment" he didn't say much, but what little he said embarrassed you to a point where you couldn't look away from that random spot in the ground.

"Although" he continued "your use of elbows and knees is interesting."

"Thanks..?"

"Don't thank me for that. You should be ashamed of yourself." He chastised.

"sorry…" you scratched the growing infernal mark on your neck.

Sometimes when you're too excited or emotional you catch on fire and it's a pain to find a place where you could properly put out your fire. After all you needed to be careful so people didn't find out about you.

Sagamiya walked over to you and patted your back. "The tour's only beginning. I still have a lot to show you"

"Yes lieutenant Sagamiya!"

"Please just call me Konro." He sighed.

He took you back inside and showed you the rest of the building and showed you your room where you lay in the bed.

You stared up at the ceiling. You may have mentally prepared yourself before coming here but even then you still can't sleep. It's just so different. But you closed your eyes and went through with it.
