“I think we’re alone now.”
The small voice breaks through the quiet of the house, as the two sit in the living room abandoned by their friends who much preferred to be lost in the hot tub that Steve’s house provided. The two were asked to join but instead declined in favor of sitting alone with each, at least on Chrissy’s behalf.
You see, Chrissy Cunningham was by far infatuated with Steve Harrington ever since she finally broke free of her mother’s reign on her life and decided that she was going to have control of everything for now on. And currently the thing she most desired was Steve Harrington’s heart.
So here she was, sitting with him on a cold winter’s night in almost the perfect atmosphere for her to make her move. She managed to get her friend and her friend’s boyfriend to get out of the room, hopefully long enough so she could strike.
Taking the opportunity of the cold air still being in the air, Chrissy fakes a shiver which immediately makes Steve turn to look at her.
“Are you cold? I can get you a blanket” Steve offers as he scrambles up to go look for one upstairs.
Chrissy sighs as she watches him make his way to grab a blanket. She sits on the couch after briefly getting up from the floor to get the tv remote from the wooden coffee table. At least Steve was quick to notice that she was cold and sprung into action. In her previous relationship, he wouldn’t have noticed that she was, and if he was told, the one that will not be named would have only told her that she knew exactly where the blankets were kept and she would have to get them herself. He wasn’t the greatest boyfriend but she had already put him behind her.
Chrissy could tell the difference between how her ex treated her versus how Steve treated her, but it doesn’t equal her feelings being reciprocated. As much as she would like them to be, she doesn’t know if they are yet.
Chrissy shivers again, her arms hugging her body as she sees Steve come down the stairs with a big bubblegum pink blanket in his hands. His smile looks like a mix of nervousness and what looks to be flustering. She stares as she wonders why Steve looks so flushed.
Steve sits down with the blanket after making his way over to her. He spreads the blanket around the two awkwardly covered in the blanket, he finally turns his head to look over to Chrissy.
“Only one blanket was clean.” Steve whispered hoping that she wouldn’t think he was weird for only getting one. “Do you mind if we share?”
Chrissy shakes her head and smiles softly. She actually likes that idea way more than Steve would even know. She scoots closer to him as she wraps the blanket around her side. They aren’t quite cuddled up together but Chrissy figured if this goes the way she hopes, that they would be by the end of the end.
Steve turns his attention to the tv screen, as he figured that the house was no longer quiet, instead it was filled with the noise of the actors on the television screen. A movie played on the screen, with what Steve noticed to be a romantic comedy.
As he silently watched the film, he remembered the times where Chrissy raved and ranted about this movie. He’d listen to her all the time if he could see the little sparkles in her eyes light up when she would explain something that she was passionate about.
To Steve, it was extremely adorable seeing her like that. He liked seeing her happy and being able to breathe freely without someone else watching and monitoring her every move. He liked her for her and to him Chrissy Cunningham was the most beautiful brilliant person in the universe.
Too caught up in his thoughts, Steve doesn’t notice that Chrissy is closer than he previously acknowledged. And she’s staring at him but Steve isn’t sure why.
It’s only until Steve follows the gaze to where Chrissy’s eyes and his lips meet, yet he still finds that he is confused. To test if what he was thinking was correct, Steve licked his bottom lip and watched out of the corner of his eye, Chrissy followed his every movement. Even though the drag of his tongue across his lips happened to be quite quick, it seemed like Chrissy hung onto the brief contact like a moth to a flame.
It made Steve flush, his tanned skin turning red across his cheeks. He was flattered to say the least. Who exactly would blame him? He’s got Chrissy Cunningham this close in his personal space, cuddled up with him like they were lovers. On top of that she’s staring at his lips like she wants to kiss him silly.
And Steve might want that too.
Steve takes a gulp and a good little breather before speaking. He’s clearly nervous. He’s just discovered that Chrissy, one of his best friends, might be pining for him too. It’s crazy to believe.
“Chrissy?” Steve’s voice is low and cautious as he turns to look at Chrissy, who happens to be even more stunning in the moonlight that’s leaking in from the slide down. Her hair is gazed with the blue hues of the light and slightly curled after taking out that headache inducing ponytail.
She looks breathtaking, which makes this even harder for Steve to say, but at least he has the buffer of Chrissy occasionally flickering her eyes to his lips then to his eyes.
“Yes Steve?” Chrissy answers but her focus can’t help but be shifted completely to Steve’s lips. She was so close, all she had to do was move a little bit closer and they would be—-.
“Did you ever have someone else in mind after your breakup with Jason? Like—-.”
That’s when Chrissy snapped. She didn’t want to hear about her god awful ex boyfriend when she had the boy of her dreams in front of her. Chrissy removed any space that was between the two of them, as she kissed Steve with all she had which really answered his question.
Chrissy placed her hand on the small of Steve’s neck as their lips moved together in a coordinated dance that managed to go on longer than she expected to happen, but she was happy nonetheless. Steve’s lips felt like coming home for the first time after being outside for a long day without a break and they tasted like blueberry ice cream and mint. A strange combination but she liked it regardless.
Unfortunately their lips had to part so the two could catch their breath. The moment Steve came to a close, he smiled looking Chrissy’s straight in the eyes.
“So it was me all along?” Steve says as he tugs a stand of her long golden hair behind Chrissy’s ear and she nods happily.
“Of course. You’re all I dreamed of Steve.”
“Well no need to dream. I’m right here in the flesh.” Steve jokes making some dumb gestures that makes Chrissy laugh.
She’s in love with an idiot.
Suddenly the two whip they’re heads in the direction of the noise that’s coming for the sliding door. There’s a round of frantic clapping and simple smiles coming from Eden and Jonathan. Two of Chrissy’s best friends.
Her smile widens as she looks over. They’ve always supported her getting with Steve and now it’s happening.
“I forgot they were out there.” Steve says dumbfounded as the two come back in the slide door. Upon seeing that they’re dripping water inside, Steve scrambles up but not before giving Chrissy a mutter of they’re talk about what their relationship is going to progress to and gives her a quick kiss on the lips.
““Stay right there! Don’t get a mess on my parents' floor!” Steve shouts at the couple and runs to the bathroom.
Chrissy smiles at Eden who congratulates her once again.
She’s got the one she wants and she’s happy.
