"To Alicent, Rhaenyra had been her introduction to having a confidant so close you could trust them with your soul. And yet, that’s something she had never quite allowed herself to have. They had grown together and yet apart, never allowed to linger for too long on growing feelings.
To Rhaenyra, Alicent had been her introduction to the tastes of her heart. Her first girlfriend in university had long brown hair and big doe eyes. Back then, she had insisted on there not being a single resemblance to someone she had known.
Today, as she jogs behind her to catch Alicent on her way to the village, naturally falling into her step, and allowing herself to take her profile in entirely, she imagines going back in time and shaking her past self, forcing her to see the truth. It would have perhaps gained her a few years of this.
“You’re staring, Rhaenyra.” Alicent says, biting back a smile.
