Work Text:

"What do you want Kairi?" Roxas' voice was tight. He had never been a fan of the red head. Her fiery temper often irritated him. Not to mention she was spoiled and used to getting her way. Roxas

"I am pregnant." She whispered, pulling her arms tightly against herself.

Roxas froze, unsure of how to respond, "Congratulations?" His voice trailed off in question.

"I want you to say you are the father." She became much more standoff-ish.

Roxas stared at her like she grew a second head, "But I am not."

"I know."

"Why on earth would I claim to be?" He asked incredulously.

She gave an annoyed sigh, "Sora is the father."

Sora, Roxas' brother, who was currently engaged to his long time boyfriend Riku. Roxas ran a hand through his spiked hair, "So he cheated on Riku, and wants me to take the fall?" Honestly that was hard to picture.

"He doesn't know. I didn't want to mess things up more than I already have."

"Already have? Are you just referencing betraying one of your longest friendships?"

"No. Sora was drunk. Like really drunk. I don't think he remembers."

I stayed quiet for a moment, "How drunk were you?"

She looked down, "Not." She actually looked ashamed of herself.

"So you raped him?" I deadpanned.

Her eyes shot up to mine, "No!"

"If the situation were reversed you know damn well that everyone would be saying that. Thats what it is. You took advantage of someone you knew wouldn't consent under normal circumstances."

Her face began turning red, "Either way, if he doesn't know, and you two are twins, the kid could pass for yours."

"Kairi, I wouldn't touch you in a million years." Roxas knew he had to give Sora a call. This was a bad situation. I turned my back on her, "I lost any respect for you I had left."

….

As soon as he was home, Roxas dialed his twins number, and awaited an answer. However, his twin did answer, and immediately started yelling, "How dare you! I can't believe this. You were always the responsible one!" He kept going, not giving any indication as to what cause this tirade.

"Hello to you too. What on earth did I do to earn your ire?" Roxas had a sneaking suspicion that she had gone to his brother in tears, with a false sob story.

"Kairi told us everything! I can believe you are refusing to acknowledge the pregnancy you caused." He sounded absolutely outraged. Which might be understandable, if it were in fact true. However, it also bothered the Blonde that his brother would just believe her.

"She is lying. I have never touched her." Roxas' digest could clearly be heard.

"Is that right? I can't believe you." And he hung up.

Roxas stared down at his phone. Unsure of how to proceed. Once the child was born, it would be obvious, with a DNA test. Roxas and Sora were fraternal. But that would be months away. So he needed a plan. He couldn't even eat. He set straight to plotting the demise of a certain redhead.

After he had a plan hatched out, he called Kairi, "I admit, you forced my hand. Let's go to lunch tomorrow and discuss the details." He attempted to keep his current rage out of his tone.

Kairi didn't seem to notice anything as she readily and happily agreed.

….

So there Roxas was, sitting in a diner with her. Offering to pay. They were discussing her  pregnancy and due date.. the role he should play. He let her say anything she wanted, agreeing to all of what she had to say as he recorded everything, unbeknownst to her.

"So, why did you take advantage of him anyway?" Eventually he made it to the juicy part. It wasn't quite a villainous monologue, but it would do its job, assuming she said anything worthwhile.

"I wanted to show him that I am better than Riku." She huffed, taking a giant bite of her burger. Grease ran down her chin, reminding him of the scene from Lord of the Rings with Borimir’s father, who was being sung to while feasting. Disconnected from reality, where his reality was his least favorite son willingly walking into a suicidal battle.

"... Seriously?" Revolting, was the word coming to his mind to describe the person in front of him.

"Yeah. I realized pretty quickly he really is gay. He kept going soft." She wiped off her face after setting down her food.

Roxas was speechless. He never liked the girl, sure, but this was a whole different level of nonchalance, "And you were willing to risk two of your longest friendships to rape Sora while he was drunk? So drunk that he doesn't remember?"

She rolled her eyes, "You make me sound like some kind of monster. He was willing. Just drunk."

Roxas shook his head. He would feel a bit bad bursting this bubble. But he wasn't about to pretend this was his kid either. Also, there was the ethical standpoint. If the roles were reversed, everyone would be yelling at Sora. Roxas had no doubt that if it were the other way, Kairi would be beyond pissed.

The lunch finished without much issue. Roxas didn’t murder her. He didn’t tell her he recorded her. He stayed nice .

After walking out of the diner, he got into his car, and set his head on his steering wheel. He began doing breathing exercises to keep calm. He waited until he felt in control to head towards his brother’s apartment. After he parked, he stared at the door. Sora angry was never a good thing. There was a chance of the door just slamming in his face.

Roxas got out of his car and slowly walked to the door. He paused, holding his hand an inch from the door, then he knocked. It only took a few moments later Riku answered, disdain clearly visible on his face, "What?"

"I need you and Sora to see something and hear something." Roxas pleaded with him. Many years ago, in kindergarten, Roxas was the one who befriended the silver headed boy. Riku and Sora later became close, leaving Roxas behind. So, the fact that they both believed the red headed stain on humanity, bothered Roxas quite a lot.

"Fine. But leave immediately after. Neither of us want to deal with a dead beat." That hurt, more than Roxas would ever plainly admit. Riku’s disgust was easy to see.

Hostility was clear in the invitation, but Roxas stepped inside nonetheless. Sora was on the couch, staring at the ground. He didn't even acknowledge his twin. This stung, but Roxas continued on. He held up his camera, "Can I plug this into something?"

A few minutes later, it was playing on the tv for the other two to see. Kairi's callus confession filled the air. The two boys stared in horror at the screen. The longer it played the more they both got to see the girl that Roxas had always told them existed. When it ended, no one said anything. Roxas didn't know what to say. That video was his evidence. Evidence that he wasn’t a dead beat. That he hadn’t touched her.

"I thought that was a really bad dream." Sora whispered, pulling his legs up to himself, "I didn't think she could do that to me. Not really." He looked like he was getting smaller, as he curled into himself on the couch.

Roxas' eyes left his brother to look at Riku, who was still staring at the blank screen.

He didn’t know what to do now, and Riku had said to leave after, "Now you know. I will leave the video with you." Roxas turned to leave. His plan ended here. From now on it was up to Sora what happened.

"Wait!" Sora's broken voice called. "Please don't leave?"

Roxas stayed still, paused in place, where he had been reaching for the door. He chose to think out loud, "I want to. I want to help you Sora, but you believed her. Both of you did. We all grew up together. Even Cousin Cloud knows of my disdain for her. I am hurt that anyone believed what she said." Roxas' hand touched the knob, "I do think you should take the recording to Cloud. He is a police officer. That is a confession. Take her down."

"Roxas… Please. Stay." Riku's voice was soft. He was still staring at the screen. Roxas let go of the knob. He turned to look at the pair. Sora now had tears running down his face. They both looked a bit broken. Roxas supposed that considering Kairi had been their unofficial nonsexual third, this makes sense. They had thought she would be a lifelong friend. Roxas took a step toward them, and then sat on the floor. He was at a loss for what to say. So he chose to wait.

The clock could be heard. Ticking into the air, minutes trailing by. Roxas was messing with his hands and nails, fidgeting, as he had nothing to say or add. He felt eyes on him so he looked up. Riku was just staring at him. Roxas looked back down.

A moment passed and arms wrapped around him, "I am sorry." Roxas could tell this was Riku, but a second later another pair of arms added to it, "Me too. You always tried to tell us that she was a bad egg."

"I'm sorry she did that Sor." I muttered.

"Me too. Me too. Now what to do about this?" Sora pondered out loud, sitting on the floor next to Roxas, while pulling Roxas’ hand with him. He was clutching it like a lifeline.

Roxas could tell that was more of a question for Riku. "Take it to Cloud. It was rape." Riku's voice was sharp and dangerous. Riku could probably commit murder, judging by the look in his eyes. Riku sat next to them, completing a circle.

"Either way Cloud will need to see this… As pretty much the whole family thinks you got her pregnant…" Sora trailed off, looking down, ashamed.

Roxas gave an exacerbated sigh, "Why would anyone think I would touch her?"

Riku and Sora made eye contact with each other, "Roxas, you never really show any interest in someone unless it was distain. We just kind of assumed that you were into that hate fuck dynamic." Riku deadpanned. Sora’s hand tightened on Roxas’, perhaps trying to reassure his brother.

Roxas' jaw dropped, "Hey! Rude!" Roxas also noted this was not entirely wrong. As he did enjoy being dominated. Brat is a term that worked for him, "I wouldn't touch her with a 10 foot pole."

"I have been trying to figure out for years who you might like. I have even started to think maybe you were asexual." Sora said quietly, he was searching his brother’s expression, trying to discern what the boy who was always quiet was thinking.

Roxas gave a boisterous laugh, "Not asexual. I have some friends at school who are tho." Roxas let a moment pass, "But my dating life isn't what's important right now. Your situation is-"

"This!" Sora let go of his brother’s hand, standing and yelling now, "This is why I believed her! You never open up about anything! You constantly keep everyone at a distance. Why can't you tell us anything?"

Roxas froze in place, staring up at him wide eyed, "Sora…"

Riku sighed, looking up at his partner, "I don't disagree. You used to be open. But as time has gone on, you slowly started pushing people out. Hayner is as clueless about your personal life as we are."

Roxas raised an eyebrow, he had always thought his crush on Hayner was more obvious on the outside. Hayner wasn't the brightest bulb. Riku however was a very bright bulb.

"I was in love with Hayner for years?" Roxas decided to offer up some information. Both of the other guys in the room seem to freeze up. Looking at him with deer in headlights looks.

"Are you bi?"

"Are you pan?"

The two asked in unison.

This made Roxas chuckle, "No. On both. Gay. Very gay. Never touched a girl." The tension in the room was dissolving.

Sora settled back down, eagerly looking towards Roxas, "Have you been dating?"

"... yes." Roxas was about ready to end this conversation, "So anyway, Cloud…"

"Anyone we know?" Sora looked oddly excited, like he had just unwrapped a present.

Roxas felt like his situation wasn’t what should be the focus, but relented, “Yes… At college there was this guy, Lea…” So, Roxas started telling them about his dating history.

After awhile, Riku got up to call Cloud, inviting him over. Roxas knew things would be okay. Maybe not for Kairi, but for those that mattered.
