Work Text:

“You don’t have to do this alone, Satine,” Padme begs.

“Obi-Wan, I need your help.” She knew he would come; she knew he would come because she was asking him to.

“Don’t I,” Satine replies, her face stoic and cold, nothing like the storm brewing inside her.

Here to do more of your master's bidding?

I do my own bidding.

Obi-Wan .” She knew he would come. She knew because he cares about her, just as she does for him.

Are you alone

Yes. The Jedi Council and Galactic Senate will be of no help to us here.”

I trust you have an escape plan then ?”

As always, my dear.

“No, you don’t. You can ask for help. You can’t rebuild Mandalore yourself, you need help.” Padme insists.

We meet again, Kenobi. Welcome to my world. Your noble flaw is a weakness shared by you... and your duchess. You should have chosen the dark side, Master Jedi.

“The last time I asked for help, people died,” Satine replies.

Your emotions betray you. Your fear, and yes, your anger. Let your anger deepen your hatred.

“He wouldn’t want you to do this alone, Satine, and you know it.” Padme counters.

Don't listen to him, Obi— " Maul was choking her, leaving her gasping, her hands flying to her neck to try and ease the pressure, but it wasn’t helping. She was scared of dying, but she would never admit that.

“Quiet.”

“Yet he is not here to tell me that. Instead, he’s lying in a hospital bed, only alive because of the machines he is hooked up to.” Satine spits out.

You can kill me, but you will never destroy me. It takes strength to resist the dark side. Only the weak embrace it. It is more powerful than you know. And those who oppose it are more powerful than you'll ever be. ” She’s still hanging in the air as oxygen escapes her, but she can’t but help to feel proud of him as he doesn’t falter, even when his cyare is being choked in front of him.

“He’s not dead, Satine, so stop acting like it. He wouldn’t want you to wallow in grief when he isn’t even dead.” Padme declares.

I know where you're from. I've been to your village. I know the decision to join the dark side wasn't yours. The Nightsisters made it for you. ” Even after the Sith killed his Master, and proceeds to threaten to kill her, that doesn’t stop her cyare from trying to save the Sith from himself. And that will always be one of the traits she loves about him, his unlimited kindness to anyone, even a murderer.

“You’re right, he’s not dead, he is merely on his deathbed. He’s dying. He’s dying because of that Sith.” Satine snarls. “And because of me.” She whispers.

Silence! You think you know me? It was I who languished for years thinking of nothing but you. Nothing but this moment. And now the perfect tool for my vengeance is in front of us. I never planned on killing you. But I will make you share my pain, Kenobi.” She already knew she was probably going to die, but at that moment, she knew all hope was lost. That she wasn’t going to make it, how she would have preferred she had died though instead of what her cyare did to save her.

“It wasn’t your fault, Satine. You know him, he wouldn’t hesitate to sacrifice himself for someone he cares about, especially for you.” Padme softly says.

“No!” She hears her cyare shout as she knows what is about to happen. She doesn’t expect though to be Force pushed out of the way of the blade. She harshly slams into the wall behind the throne, but she would rather have a bruise than have a stab wound. She looks up from the floor and gasps in horror.

“I know, and he did it for me. He sacrificed himself for me. And it’s my fault. It’s my fault that he was even there.” Satine exclaims, her eyes getting teary. “I should have never pursued our relationship. Maybe then he wouldn’t be injured and dying.”

She can’t do anything but watch in horror as her cyare is stabbed by the Dark saber. “You saved her, Kenobi, but at the expense of yourself. Idiotic.” The Sith snarls and then extinguishes the saber, her cyare gasps in pain as he hits the floor.

“Maybe so, but then there would be pain, Satine, there would be pain because you guys would not be in each other’s lives. He made you happy and you made him happy. Every time you see him, your face lights up in joy.” Padme counters.

She doesn’t care that there is a Sith, towering over her cyare as she quickly rushes to his side. All she cares about is the man in front of her, laying on the floor with a hole in his abdomen.

“It would cause me pain, but I would gladly sacrifice our relationship if it meant him staying alive and well,” Satine whispers.

She hastily puts his head onto her lap and grabs his hand. He tries to speak but he can only whisper. “Remember, Satine. I loved you always. I always will” He uses his hand and brushes a lock from her face and then breathes his last. She hears shooting outside and screaming, but their too late, the only thing that mattered in her life is now gone, dead.

“What about him? Imagine how much pain he would be in if you weren’t in his life. He loves you, Satine, he loves you so much that he almost died for you. And he would do it all over again if it meant his love was safe because he loves you.” Padme firmly states.

The Sith and his brother fled like cowards as the Deathwatch stormed the palace. As one of the medics quickly came to her side, she hoped for a miracle, and it was a miracle when her sister’s medic was able to revive her cyare, but it was short-lived as he drifted into a coma a while later.

Satine stares at Padme as tears flow down her cheeks. Padme closes the space between them as she envelops her friend in a hug, letting Satine cry on her shoulder.

“What if he never wakes up, Padme?” Satine quietly sobs.

“He will wake up because he has us waiting here for him, and if not for us, for you.” Padme comforts her.

Satine nods as she is comforted by her friend. She can only hope that what Padme says is true because she can’t see herself in the future without her cyare, her Jedi, her love, her Ben, and her Obi-Wan.
