Summary:

AU where Than, Meg and Zag are from Manila, and Meg is a K-pop fan. Also, Zag is spendthrift and Than is a bit of a penny-pincher.

(translated from the Filipino fic "budol" by seaofolives)

Notes:

Requested a Filipino ThanZagMeg fic from seaofolives, who delivered a lovely and hilarious fic. Joked that I was a co-author, decided to become co-author for real, by making the translation. More people must read liv's awesomeness!!

Work Text:

Meg's right--they should've gone there earlier.

How was Than supposed to know how big EURY's fanbase was? He hasn't even heard a lot of her songs, except for her breakup song for Orpheus (who is apparently still famous in theater). Yet here he is, walking slowly toward the end of the line and wow, is this still a line?! People have filled up the entire venue! Everyone's facing their own friends, wearing hairbands with EURY's image and fanning themselves with plastic fans, also with EURY's face on them...

Lord, are he and Zag the only male-shaped creatures there?!

"Hey, Than! Get over here! Also, close your mouth and put down your umbrella. You look like an idiot."

Even if Than doesn't like how Meg spoke to him, he still complies and just accepts his friend's attitude. Besides, this is her day--the date has been circled on their calendar for a month. On this day, everyone who bought a ticket to EURY's concert gets a chance to win one of ten VIP tickets. And of course, the website is down on this important day. Of course, again--the more friends one brings, the more chances of winning.

So here's Than now, folding his umbrella while approaching Meg and Zag. Wherever they're standing, they're sure to have found the end of a line that hopefully leads to one of the closed ticket booth windows.

"What time did they say they'll open?" Than asks.

And because Meg is still drinking from a flask (that was peppered with EURY stickers from the recently concluded Komiket), Zag is the one who answers without a trace of fear in his body. "Ten o'clock, last I looked." Ten o'clock--

"Ten o'clock--ten AM?!" Than is no longer able to control his voice. Zag only hangs his head and because Than still didn't like his answer, he turns to Meg, who glares at him while still drinking.

Than feels he's slowly losing hope. He whipped out his cell phone from his back pocket and looked at the time. "My God, it's not even seven thirty yet." On one hand, at least he's at peace now knowing that no matter how early they left their apartment, they'd still arrive to a scenario like this.

But on the other hand-- "What are we going to do here for two and a half hours?!"

"Wait for it to open!" Meg answers while sticking her flask into Zag's eco bag. Thank God it's no longer EURY (though there's a EURY tote bag that'll be sold later that Meg will likely buy, too). "Come on, Than. Don't act like you're uninformed."

"I really am uninformed!" Than replies. He turns to Zag and asks him, "How come you know? Why didn't you tell me?"

"I told you last night!" Zag defends. And he slowly smiles as he adds, "Thing is, you were so engrossed in that yawi thing you were reading, you didn't hear me--"

"That wasn't yawi, that was for my class!"

"Hey!" Meg suddenly hisses at them, brows knitted. "You two shut it! You're embarrassing, we still have to stand here for two hours."

"Who told us to come here at this hour anyway?" Than sighs and scratches his head. "I still got stuff to do later!"

"It's a Saturday anyway, Than, we don't have any other things to do today." Zag elbows him lightly. "Forget about it! While we're here,  let's get something nice to eat. Then let's go shopping!"

"There you go again overindulging."

"What, we already paid our bills and rent anyway, right?"

"You know what? You meeting Meg was really written in the stars." Than points to one, then the other. "You're both spendthrifts!"

"It's not wrong to spend on something you saved up for," Meg points out, arms akimbo. "What about you? If you die, will you be able to take your wealth to wherever you're going?"

"So mean, 'wherever you're going'." Zag coughs a little. "Can't go straight to heaven first?"

"If you ask me, there's nothing wrong with saving up a little," Than replies. "As for you, Zag, you just got your allowance from Uncle Hades, and you go and spend it right away. That's why after this, instead of gallivanting, we're going straight home."

"Aw, Than!" Zag protests, latching onto Than's arm childishly. "Such a KJ."

"I'll KJ your face." Than tries to pry his elbow free but this one's a little clingy. "What do you need to buy here that you can't find closer to us anyway?"

"Who knows!" Zag is defensive again--brows knitted and lips pouting. Really quite childish. "Maybe there's a sale, or a nice shirt or rubber shoes." He waves a hand airily in Meg's direction. "EURY's tote bag is kind of cute."

"You're just saying that because your hand is itching to get rid of your money." Than folds his arms across his chest. "What EURY song do you even know?"

Zag stares, first at Meg then back at Than. Then while shyly grinning, as if he wants to laugh at himself but is holding back, he sings, "Na-na, na-na, doot-doot-do."

Meg and Than answer at the same time. "Moron, that's Blackpink," Meg points out.

"Thought that was Blackpink?" Than chastises.

But between the two of them, Zag only chooses to answer Than. His smile is large and his unevenly-colored eyes are twinkling. "I thought you didn't know anything about K-pop!" And he's even happy as he says it. The truth, of course, is that Than knows nothing about K-pop. Or, rather, he should know nothing.

However, he clearly remembers one night when he's watching letters on the television screen turning white while a band dances behind them.

Than just falls quiet, before shrugging. "I don't, I just knew that one."

"Ahhh!" Zag waves his forefinger. "Was that the one time we went on a date at RomBa --"

"Shhh!" Than quickly tapped a finger to his lips. "Shut up, my parents don't know about that yet!"

"Sheesh, 'parents', seriously? Rich kid?" Meg chides. "Besides, Zag has a point. We're here anyway! And we don't make our way here often. Let's make the most of it so the fare isn't wasted."

"That's right, Than!" Zag latches onto Than's arm again and drags him around. "Come oooon, you love us, right?" And it's a good thing he does.

But that's why he's here, in the first place--because he can't say no to them. "Hay!" Than sighs while scratching his forehead. "Okay, whatever! Good thing I do."

Meg and Zag celebrate, high-fiving each other. Now that Than wasn't going to defy them anymore, Meg brought out her cell phone to check her messages. By the way--

"Meg, how about your sisters?" Than asks. "Don't they like this stuff? Why didn't you ask them to--"

"Than." Meg takes a deep breath before she eyes Zag sidelong. Threateningly. "Take your pick: a smooch or a slap?" Than is a smart man--at least that's what he likes to think.

So he just chooses not to answer that.
