Work Text:

It was another regular, boring, day of mundane office work.

And Danny loved it.

He relished in the boring, in the mundane, because it meant that no ghosts were bothering him -they hardly qualified as attackers nowadays, with how powerful he’d become- and no mortals were causing chaos as well.

His day would be perfect- if it wasn’t for the multiple presences shadowing him constantly. Well, it’s not like they’re bothering him, not really, it’s just that he doesn’t know why or who. So, when in doubt, he falls back onto tried and true tactics.

Play dumb and act ignorant.

“Here’s the papers for the kill-me-now-meeting you ordered, Rachel.” He hands off the veritable mountain of sheets to his superior, groaning in exaggerated relief while his boss whimpers at the sight before they both laugh. “Got anything else for me?”

“Nah, you’re good to relax for now. Thanks Danny.” Rachel answers, hazel eyes already scanning through the papers and she makes notes on a separate sheet. “Go eat your lunch.” The redhead pauses to give him a Look™ and adds, “And actually eat it this time.”

Danny holds up his hands in surrender and chuckles at the reminder of The Incident. “Nah, I’m getting off soon. My parents are coming up here to visit for the week. We’re going out to eat for lunch today and then I’ll take them around Gotham.”

“Hmm. Okay then. Go ahead and leave.” Rachel’s already turning back to her work, deciding that his answer is acceptable and Danny heaves out a silent sigh of relief. His work friends can be surprisingly terrifying for regular humans.

Then again, this is Gotham. He muses to himself as he walks onto the glistening pavement and out of Wayne Industries HQ. You gotta be terrifying on your own to live here.

“DANNY-BOY!” Oh shit is all he can think as he curses his mistake. He’d forgotten that his parents would be here. Muscular arms encircle him in a crushing hug and lift him up.

“Danny, it’s so good to see you!” He hears his mom greet from his left and sends a flapping wave that says ‘hello’ and ‘help me’ at once. “Jack, dear, you’ll suffocate him.”

“No I won’t Maddie-cakes.” Even as his dad says it, he drops Danny back to the ground, ruffling his hair. “And what your mom said, son!”

Danny chuckles as he looks at his parents, his core pulsing with happiness and contentment that they’re here and still love him, taking in their still-an-eyesore jumpsuits and their joy-filled expressions.

“It’s awesome to see you guys too. Now come on!” Danny shouts, sprinting to the GAV that’s parked nearby and leaping in, “I promised you both an awesome tour and great food!”

His parents' laughter echoes as they scramble after him and buckle into the passenger seats.

“Now, if you look to the left…”

“So he’s not a clone?”

"Not with any evidence I can find. There's records of his birth, going to school, medical records although they're weirdly sparse, friends that he grew up with, and his parents have solid records too. He's clean even if he looks like Bruce's clone."

"You know B is still going to investigate though."

"That's obvious, you imbecile."

"He wouldn't be Batman if he wasn't paranoid."
