Work Text:
After junior year, Jade couldn't stop thinking about Tori. How pretty she was, how good of a friend she was, how talented she was...
"Oh shit, I have feelings for her," she said, out loud.
At this point, Jade only knew Tori for about a year, so she kept it to herself...
"Jade, can we talk for a bit."
They walked to the Janitor's Closet, Jade's heart pounding out of her chest.
The door closed, and it was just her and Tori.
"So, I may have heard that you like me more than just as a friend," Tori said, "I just want to say that, while I'm flattered, I'm not really comfortable with anything right now."
...
When she drove home, she decided to drive in silence. There was something weirdly comforting about a silent drive. No sound except for the passing cars and your thoughts. The near-dead silence was a near-perfect distraction from what just happened.
Near-perfect...
She just couldn't help but think, "Who the fuck told her?" And then she thought, "Maybe no one told her and she finally picked up on all the obvious hints."
When she got home, she just wanted to collapse on the bed and listen to music. She went on her phone and chose a playlist of songs that reminded her of Tori, a playlist no one else knows about. She just sat there and thought while "All I Wanted" was playing, then she realized something. Tori and her's relationship may have been rocky at first, but soon it blossomed into a true friendship. Because Tori knew, she didn't just lose a potential relationship, she lost a true friend. Sure it may have been the friend she's been crushing on all summer, but a friend nonetheless.
The word's coming through Hayley William's voice sang "All I wanted was you", and Jade completely fell apart.
