Work Text:

“Violet, I’m home!” Cait called.

Her voice echoed through the Kirraman mansion’s living room, but she got no response. That was odd.

Usually Vi was there to greet her at the door, waiting like an excited puppy for her to get home.

As she stepped into the foyer, she breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the fire on, with Violet curled into the couch beside it.

A glint of blue caught her eye, and Cait smiled as she realized Vi was wearing her favorite sweatshirt.

Cait had got it from her father as a graduation gift- he knew that blue was her favorite color and he’d seen it in a shop nearby. It had been her favorite ever since.

She settled onto the couch beside Vi, propping herself up on the cushions.

Vi stirred, smiling softly as she realized who was sitting next to her.

“Hi,” she said, her voice soft.

“Hi,” Cait replied, bringing a hand to stroke Vi’s face.

Vi curled into her, nuzzling into her hand. “How was your day?”

Cait sighed, letting all of the tension from work drain out of her body. “It was alright. It got better when I walked in and saw you in my sweatshirt.”

Vi burrowed her face deeper into said sweatshirt, trying (and failing) to hide her blush.

“I was cold,” she said bashfully, her eyes closed again. She looked to peaceful by the fire.

Cait wanted to marry her so bad. This woman had worked her way into her heart so quickly, and all Cait wanted to do was hold her and keep her safe from the world.

Vi had already been through so much, and if Cait could make her safe, she’d spend her whole life trying to do that.

It wasn’t fair, though. Wouldn’t be fair to the world to keep Violet all to herself. She was too wonderful, too amazing.

But not everyone deserved Vi. Those guards certainly didn’t, that awful place…

They didn’t deserve her.

“Hey, what’re you thinking about?”

She decided that now was definitely not the time to bring up Vi’s past traumas, so she went with the safer answer.

“You,” she said, planting a kiss on Vi’s cheek.

Vi blushed again, smiling.

“I love you, Cupcake.”

“I love you too Violet.”

Yeah, she’d do everything in her power to make sure that Vi stayed safe.
