Chapter Text
Caitlyn was raised on a small farm in the country of Piltover. Her favorite pastimes were riding her horse and tormenting the farm girl that worked there. Her name was Violet, but she never called Her that. Nothing gave Caitlyn as much pleasure as ordering Violet around.
"Farm girl. Polish my horse's saddle. I want to see my face shining in it by morning."
"As you wish." Violet replied, in almost a whisper. Violet is perhaps a year younger than Caitlyn. And maybe as handsome as Cait was beautiful.
Violet was chopping wood with an old worn out ax when Cait saunters over with two empty buckets before lazily dropping them in front of her.
"Farm girl, fill these with water."-she pauses- "please."
"As you wish." Violet gazed at Caitlyn with her stormy eyes as she walked away. She then stopped and looked back at Violet, and only then did Violet return her focus to the wood.
That day, she was amazed to discover that when she was saying "As you wish," what she meant was, "I love you."
The sun was setting peacefully in the meadow. Caitlyn was placing cups on the kitchen table when Violet arrived with an armful of wood. What was even more amazing about that day, was that she realized she truly loved Violet back.
"Farm girl, fetch me that pitcher." Cait pointed at the pitcher across the room.
"As you wish."
The next morning when they saw each other, they embraced in a passionate kiss in the pasture as the sun rose over the trees.
Violet had no money for marriage, so she packed her few belongings and left the farm to seek her fortune across the sea.
This was a very emotional time for Caitlyn. She embraced her lover tightly as Violet prepared to leave the farm.
"I fear I'll never see you again." Cait whispered into Vi's neck.
"Of course you will." Violet kissed Caitlyn's hair.
"But what if something happens to you?"
"Here this now, I will come for you."
"But how can you be sure?" Another tear escaped Cait's eye.
"This is true love. You think this happens every day?"
Violet smiles at her, she smiles too, throws her arms so tightly around her. They kiss. Then as Violet walks away, Caitlyn watches Her go.
Violet didn't reach her destination. Her ship was attacked by the Dread Pirate Roberts, who never left captives alive. When Caitlyn got the news that Violet was murdered she was truly heartbroken. She loved Violet, and only Violet. So she vowed to never love again. She went to her room and shut the door. And for days she neither slept nor ate.

Five years later, the main square of Piltover City was filled as never before to hear the announcement of the great Prince Silco's bride-to-be.
Silco Looked down at the crowd of his subjects from a castle balcony, the Countess Sevika standing behind him. He raised his hand to silence the crowd.
"My people, a month from now our country will have its 500th anniversary. On that sundown, I shall marry a lady who was once a commoner like yourselves," he pauses to gaze at the crowd.-"but perhaps you will not find her common now. Would you like to meet her?"
The crowd collectively cheered a booming "Yes!"
"My people, Princess Caitlyn!" the crowd parts as Caitlyn enters the large courtyard. She is adorned in a beautiful cream colored gown with a gold bodice that made her jet black hair seem lighter. A crown on her head with more jewels on it than necessary. She did not look happy: her cerulean eyes that were once filled with life were now sunken, and dull. She stood idle amongst the people as they knelt before her. She blinked back tears that welled in her eyes.
Caitlyn's emptiness consumed her. Although the law of the land gave Silco the right to choose his bride, she did not love him.
