Prompt:

Yoongi thinks Jungkook may be a vampire. He's suddenly super pale with bags under his eyes, a messed up sleep schedule, and Yoongi's been kind of fixated on his teeth lately... It's not because Jungkook's hot, Yoongi's just worried, okay? So he tries his best to make their space vampire friendly, and hint that he's okay with supernatural things and did you know he almost became a nurse because of his low squeamishness around blood?

Meanwhile Jungkook is just trying to get through finals week and pass his math class.

Work Text:

vampires, werewolves, witches and wizards. these were a few things yoongi didn’t believe in.

that was until one fateful morning in his favorite coffee shop, his best friend approached him, glasses askew and shirt rumpled.

“hyung, please hear me out.” his best friend started.

and newly turned flat earther, min yoongi, was always one to listen to what others had to say.

yoongi took a sip of his watered down iced americano, he made a mental note to just get it hot and let it cool down next time, motioning for his friend to continue.

kim namjoon, with his high IQ, who tutors others on the hardest subjects in their school for a living, said one of the most ridiculous things yoongi has ever heard.

“i think your roommate is a vampire.”

there it was, the idea that wormed its way into yoongi’s head and nested there. it’d take days for him to notice what namjoon had, but here in their usual booth, yoongi couldn’t wrap his mind around the idea.

“look, joon-ah, i was there with you that full moon when you thought your music prof was a werewolf-“

joon immediately sat up, voice taking on a defensive pitch, “hey! we ended up catching a serial killer because of the blood stain that i saw on his coat! so, don’t hold that against me.”

yoongi didn’t point out that either way, wolf or man, they could’ve been killed.

“i also helped you prank jin hyung about the earth being flat and now i’m a flat earther.”

his friend shrugged, “i didn’t mean to turn you into a flat earther. it’s not my fault that my arguments are so strong.”

“anyway, my point is i’ll go along with any of your ideas, you’re my best friend, but leave the guy that’s paying half my bills out of this.”

“you can always find another roommate!” namjoon argued.

yoongi shook his head, “not one that has the same sleeping schedule as me.”

“exactly!” his best friend’s eyes got all huge, his hand slamming down on the table. “he’s up all night, only enrolled in night classes, works a night job in his free time, and sleeps all day. don’t you find that strange?”

sighing, yoongi shakes his coffee cup, “if anyone is going to be accused of being a vampire, let it be jin hyung, that man never ages and is otherworldly beautiful but don’t tell him i said that.”

namjoon’s lips pursed, lost in thought. “noted.” he mumbled before continuing on his rant about his roommate. “hyung, the first time i met your roommate he stared at my thighs with drool running down his chin, i swear he looked hungry and said ‘wow, thighs’ instead of greeting me like a normal person. how do you explain that?”

“well, have you seen your thighs, joon-ah? i think his reaction is justified.” yoongi smirked, wanting this conversation to be over already.

namjoon rolled his eyes. “i just want you to be careful, hyung.”

“and i appreciate your concern, joon-ah, i really do, but i think i’d notice if my roommate was a vampire.”

that happened a week ago, yoongi couldn’t help but recall the memory as he watched his roommate drink from a mug that he always brought in and out of his room.

they didn’t speak much so it’d be weird if yoongi questioned him on the contents.

he had to get more evidence than just a cup of what could just be red wine.

so, if he found himself making some garlic fried chicken at midnight just to offer it to jungkook then no one would know.

namjoon was definitely getting to him.

now, usually yoongi would finish cooking up some dinner, tell jungkook to help himself to whatever was left, head to his own room and find any leftovers packaged up the next day.

tonight though, yoongi plates up the chicken and some white rice, he grabs the container of kimchi from their fridge and sets it all on the table in front of jungkook.

the other man startles at this, his eyes drifting away from his textbooks to yoongi, he watches him wordlessly, the tension growing when yoongi slides the chair across from jungkook’s noisily and sits.

yoongi avoids looking up at those eyes that watch his every movement, he serves himself a plate, then pushes the other dish of rice toward jungkook. “you can join me if you’d like.”

“you’re eating here?” he says in an incredulous tone. “i mean- i’m sorry, this is your place too, i was just confused.”

“why?” yoongi takes a bite of chicken to keep his mouth busy.

jungkook shrugs. “you never eat here.”

“do you?” yoongi blurts out, his curiosity getting to him, he wants to know so badly.  his question is followed by silence and it makes yoongi finally look up.

his roommate is toying with that cup of his, he glances up at yoongi and his cheeks tint a rosy hue at the eye contact.

his roommate shrugs, “you never stay long enough to join me.”

yoongi has never openly stared too long at jungkook, he’s never found a reason to. he was just some guy that paid the other half of the bills, why would he need to look at him?

well, now, yoongi was looking and what he sees is this:

long dark wavy hair that frames his face, it goes down to his neck and the ends stick out a little bit. it’s almost as long as yoongi’s but not quite.

jungkook is wearing a hoodie that looks almost like the one yoongi left on the couch yesterday but he’ll choose not to comment on it.

pale skin with moles that stick out, one under his bottom lip, that same lip is wedged between his teeth right now worrying away at it, and his teeth, the front two are most prominent, like a bunny.

yoongi wonders if vampire bunnies are a thing… he’ll have to ask namjoon.

jungkook’s nose twitches when he sniffles, and yoongi finds it endearing, it should be out of place on the rest of jungkook, but it fits him, his long nose between two big doe eyes that are still resting on yoongi.

oh, that’s right, yoongi is supposed to reply to what jungkook said.

he leans back in his chair, trying to look casual. “well, i thought after nine months of living together we should at least share a meal.”

jungkook grins at yoongi, a small shy smile. “nine months, that’s a whole baby.”

yoongi freezes, his eyes wide before letting out a small chuckle. “not the point, jungkook-ah.”

“we’ve been sharing meals..” jungkook mumbles.

“i meant like sitting at the dinner table and eating together, jungkook-ah.”

jungkook points to all the books and papers in front of him. “i’m sorry, i kind of have my own schedule, i eat at odd times, if at all, and i just- i really appreciate the offer but i’m swamped with so much work, sorry.”

“you said sorry twice.” yoongi points out, chopsticks aimed at jungkook, then he waves them at the mess in front of his roommate. “college will be there tomorrow, this delicious chicken is getting cold, eat up.”

there’s a small pout then a smile blossoms on jungkook’s face, his two front teeth poking out. “fine. just one piece won’t hurt.”

well, yoongi hopes not.

he waits in anticipation for the other to put away his work and set up his meal, nerves keeping him from eating.

“it smells good.” jungkook mumbles, pulling the plates toward himself, his eyes drift up to yoongi and the man quickly looks back down, blood rushing to his cheeks.

"thank you, eat well." yoongi answers in a rush, eyes going to his own plate after realizing how weird it is to watch the other eat.

they sit in silence for awhile, yoongi picking up on the sounds of jungkook chewing on his rice and sipping on whatever is in his mug. the mood is a little awkward, the quiet sitting heavy on yoongi's shoulders, rattling him to break it, to say anything to get jungkook talking but he's not sure what to even say.

everything he knows about jungkook, the other had already told him during their brief meeting before jungkook moved in.

jungkook's older brother, a baseball player that didn't really talk to yoongi much when they lived together, recommended the place to him after he graduated last year.

all yoongi had asked jungkook was for rent money on the same day every month, no large parties and that he help keep the place clean. it wasn't much to ask for and jungkook, with his large doe eyes covered partially by his hair, nodded excitedly and agreed.

so the things yoongi knew were that jungkook was also here for music, he didn't have many friends, just two beautiful men with pink and blue hair that came around once a month to ask jungkook if he was still alive, they would shout out as they walked to his room, that's the only reason why yoongi knows they do this (yoongi still doesn't know their names).

yoongi finally decides to break the tension. "how's your brother?" at the same time, jungkook asks, "how's your music?"

"good." they both say at the same time then laugh awkwardly, yoongi stares at jungkook, waiting for him to go first.

jungkook shrugs, mouth full of rice, yoongi notices that he hasn't touched the garlic chicken but doesn't comment. "he's been scouted by an american team, so i don't see him much." yoongi hums to show he's listening, biting into his own chicken. “we facetime here and there, he actually asked me about you last time we spoke.” yoongi hums again, “he just asked if you’d been mentoring me…” jungkook trailed off, playing with his mug in his hands again.

“mentoring you? i didn’t think you needed any help but you know you’re more than welcome to ask me if you’re having trouble, jungkook-ah.” yoongi pressed, a gentle smile on his face. “but i have heard you’re the new music prodigy of your year, so i don’t think you’ll need much of my help.”

jungkook sighed. “i hope you don’t find what i’m about to say weird, yoongi-ssi.” yoongi interrupts with a ‘ just hyung is fine.’ which makes jungkook look a little shy. “well, hyung, i’m a huge agust d fan.”

it takes yoongi a moment to process what he’s just heard, he replays every little moment he’s had with jungkook in his head, all the shy gazes and notes of gratitude left for yoongi from the man across the table. admittedly, yoongi did more for jungkook in the time span of nine months than he did in the two years that he and taesyuk had lived together.

why was that?

did he have a soft spot for the younger because he reminded yoongi so much of himself in his first year? yoongi had jin to watch out for him and maybe he just wanted to pay that back to jungkook. or was it the fear that the pink and blue guys would come around one day and jungkook wouldn’t be alive and that would all get put onto yoongi.

he was spiraling in his thoughts, that’s why he always had music so he wouldn’t get lost in the downward spiral of tracks that his thoughts always lead him to.

it was the sound of humming that broke him free, the sound was familiar to him, a song he wrote once when he was lost, when he didn’t have a clue where it is he was running to he just knew he was running because his legs were tired and every day seemed like an endless marathon that he could never get to the finish line of.

“that’s my favorite off your mixtape.” jungkook says, “it made me realize that i don’t need to have a dream, that i can live my life and fully bloom whenever i decide it’s spring.”

yoongi clears his throat, “yeah.” he answers, grabbing his glass of water and taking a drink.

“we are our whole world,” jungkook continues, “and just like this earth, we get to decide what season it is.” he smiles brightly, teeth out and poking his bottom lip.

like this, yoongi can see what namjoon means, there’s an otherworldly glow about jungkook, it radiates off of him in tendrils and it hooks onto yoongi’s heart and pulls him in and all yoongi can think of is how he wants to protect that precious smile for as long as he’s able to.

the next day he finds himself recounting the story to namjoon and jin, the latter joining them for coffee, leaving out the bit where yoongi would lay in front of traffic if jungkook asked him to.

“but did he touch the chicken? you never mentioned.” namjoon inquires, leaning forward in his chair very dangerously but before yoongi can comment on it, jin pulls him back without fanfare and keeps reading over the paper in front of him.

yoongi tries to think back to last night's dinner, he admittedly stopped paying attention to the food whenever they started talking about music. yoongi left the table that night with a newfound likeness for jungkook that was definitely not a crush.

would vampires even listen to his music about not having dreams? he hadn't thought about that before.

"uhm, no, i don't think he touched his chicken, he sent me off to do my homework and said he'd get the dishes."

namjoon crossed his arms, leaning back in his chair. "there's your proof then."

"proof of what, darling?" jin looks between the two of them, waiting for one of them to start explaining.

yoongi starts in on the theories namjoon came up with at their first meeting, not leaving out any details. if there's someone who can talk reason into both of them, it's jin.

jin shakes his head as yoongi tells him everything. "a vampire would hide in plain sight, i don't believe their sleeping schedule would tell you if they were truly one or not. also, hasn't yoongi mentioned before that jungkook enjoys working out, he could be on a diet and that's why he didn't touch your fried chicken."

namjoon throws his hands up and nearly drops his coffee but jin moves it out of his reach in the same moment. "you're so right, babe." the genius groans. "we need more proof, yoongi hyung."

"or we can just come to the conclusion that jungkook is not a vampire, my love." jin goes back to his paper, probably hoping that namjoon will stop bothering yoongi over this.

they both ignore jin and hunch in closer to each other. "what are you thinking, joon-ah?"

joon's eyebrows are drawn together, his mouth is set in a hard line. "you have to give yourself a papercut, hyung."

the huge sigh that jin lets out goes ignored by the two as they begin to plan out their next course of action.

the next course of action sounds easy in theory, yoongi just makes himself bleed purposefully but make it look like an accident in front of jungkook.

again, it should be easy enough.

giving yourself a papercut is a lot harder than it looks though.

yoongi's given up after the fifty sixth try, he hears the front door open and sees brown, pink and blue.

"oh, hello!" he throws rolls up the magazine in his hands, dusting off invisible lint from his-oh, he's wearing shorts, he forgot to change and now they're all looking down at his legs and this is embarrassing.

"wow." jungkook says, eyes never straying from yoongi's legs.

the pink haired man hits him on the shoulder, "are you gonna introduce us, kookie?"

"oh, uhm, yes, yoongi hyung, this is my cousin taehyungie hyung and his boyfriend, the bane of my existence, jiminie." he smiles, his nose scrunching up when jiminie, the pink haired one, tries to swat at him again but jungkook dodges.

"that's hyung to you!" jimin shouts.

the blue haired man approaches yoongi with a beautiful smile that takes up most of his modelesque face. "nice to meet you, yoongi-ssi, i'm kim taehyung."

yoongi shakes his hand, "i see good looks run in the family." he blurts out.

"what? oh, thank you."

"sadly the gene pool stopped when it got to our jungkookie, we've been looking after our ugly duckling ever since he was born." jimin fake sniffles, jumping away from jungkook's attack like he could predict his every move.

"wait, born? how long have you known them, jimin-ssi?"

jimin smiles over at the other two, something like a secret shared between them. "feels like lifetimes but we're childhood friends. our parents were neighbors so."

"ah, so you and taehyung are childhood sweethearts?" yoongi inquires, looking between them.

"no, we couldn't stand each other growing up but then we fell in love during middle school."

taehyung walks up to jimin and takes his hand, dropping kisses to his palm, it feels like a private moment, the two only having eyes for each other. "it was the braces, wasn't it?" jimin nods at this, the two seem to transport to another time that yoongi wasn't apart of, one he seems to be intruding on.

"if you two are gonna have sex, please do it in your own apartment!" jungkook stomps by them, breaking their moment.

jimin smiles devilishly, "can we use your room jungkookie?"

the younger pretends to gag. "hell no!"

"what about yours, yoongi hyung? you can join us if you'd like."

"double hell no! leave him alone!" jungkook's outburst shocks yoongi, the magazine in his hand slips and he feels a burn on his finger.

"ouch, fuck." he mutters, pulling the finger to his chest, he sees a drop of blood and then looks to jungkook whose eyes have gone wide, then he runs out of the room.

the other two untangle themselves from each other, jimin runs after jungkook and taehyung is at yoongi's side, guiding him to the couch.

"sorry, i'll be back with something to clean that up." taehyung smiles.

"it's just a papercut." yoongi points out, "i'm not dying."

"right." this time taehyung's smile looks strained. "just a papercut."

yoongi still lets taehyung clean his finger up and bandage it, just to make the other feel better.

taehyung is wiping his hands with a napkin after he's done washing his hands, "i hope you'll forgive our jungkookie for running out, he gets a little queasy at the sight of blood. doesn't have the stomach for it, poor kid."

"it's fine." yoongi answers.

"it should be fine, but he'll beat himself up for it." taehyung takes a seat next to yoongi. "just don't let him punish himself for it, please. he-jungkookie hasn't had an easy childhood."

"i know his brother, taesyuk."

nodding, taehyung crosses his arms. "taesyuk was away at a baseball camp when it happened." a deep breath, "jungkookie and his parents were in a wreck, i don’t know many details but jungkook was conscious through most of it, i can’t imagine how much blood that would be.” taehyung shakes his head. “his therapist believes he’s traumatized because of it.”

"that's why you're always around, you and jimin, to look over him?"

taehyung nods. "we just want the best for him, i'm not sure if that's you or someone else but for now, he seems to really like you."

"like me?" yoongi's eyes go wide, making taehyung laugh.

there's a glint in taehyung's eyes, "as far as i know, just as a friend."

"right." yoongi chuckles. "well, i'll keep an eye on him too, i've got a soft spot for him already, and he's a good one, i can tell."

"thank you." taehyung pulls him in for a hug, crushing him into his chest, yoongi feels weirdly comforted by this. "i'm gonna go check on them now, thank you for the hospitality."

yoongi sits on his couch for hours.

the three never come back out.

“so, his whole family are vampires?” namjoon concludes at their next meeting.

yoongi shrugs, eyes straying over to jin who’s actually paying attention to their conversation.

jin usually ignores them when they go out for coffee in favor of grading assignments from the private school he works at.

“what did you say their names were?” jin asks.

yoongi frowns. “i didn’t.”

“well,” jin taps his fingers on the table impatiently. “what were they?”

“kim taehyung and uhm i didn’t get the other one, but jungkook called him jiminie.”

namjoon is nodding along to whatever yoongi is saying while jin goes back to his papers, ignoring them again.

“why’d you wanna know their names so badly?” yoongi asks, eyeing jin suspiciously.

shrugging, jin scoots his half eaten scone to his boyfriend, “just wanted to see if i knew them from school is all.” he smiles easily, going back to grading.

“right, well, what do you think i should do next, joon-ah?”

with his mouth full of scone, namjoon starts to reply, “i think you should give him a cup of holy wa—“

“you should just ask him.” jin interrupts his boyfriend.

yoongi and namjoon look at each other, then jin, and then back at the other.

“he’s joking right?” yoongi grimaces.

namjoon sets a hand on jin’s thigh. “babe, we can’t just ask yoongi hyung’s roommate if he’s a vampire, he might lie.”

“hello! or he could kill me!” yoongi whisper shouts.

jin just chuckles. “yoongi-chi, he hasn’t hurt you in the nine months you’ve lived together, i doubt he’d do anything dangerous. why not try to actually get to know him?”

namjoon snaps his fingers with an elated smile. “that’s genius! get to know him, make him feel safe so he can confess to you!” it wasn't a terrible plan, in fact it was a better plan than going out to buy holy water and having jungkook drink it without his knowledge.

it wasn't a terrible plan for someone with better social skills than yoongi.

he wasn't sure how many more awkward meals he could sit through just to find out if jungkook was a vampire or not.

turns out he wouldn't have to because ever since the papercut incident, jungkook has managed to sneak out of the apartment or stay holed up in his room before yoongi could offer him any food.

they were back to square one, back to normal.

this time though, yoongi knew jungkook was actively trying to avoid him and he was going to let him. he wanted to give the younger space to work through whatever he was feeling, whatever was going on in his mind.

that's why he found himself at namjoon and jin's place most nights, studying, hanging out and avoiding the shared space for a little bit.

it was getting pretty late when yoongi decided to pack up and head home one night, he was running out of spare clothes and his two friends were giants so he couldn't borrow their clothes without looking like a toddler.

the night is cool, a slight breeze whips through his hair, he pulls his jacket tighter to him when the bus drops him off and decides to take a shortcut through campus to get to his apartment right behind the park next to the school.

the park isn’t small, it’s a large area with multiple playgrounds, another area to play baseball and basketball, and somewhere further is an outdoor pool.

yoongi cuts through it as well, usually he opts for going around since there are more street lights but he’s freezing and just wants the comfort of his bed.

midway through his ears pick up on a noise, it sounds like a groan, someone is groaning nearby.

min yoongi, flat earther and now savior, runs over to the canopy area where people have picnics, he stops in his tracks when he sees two figures, their outlines are pressed together to make one giant figure.

what yoongi does see in the dark is this: blue buried into the neck of pink, while pink is groaning in pain, hands clenched into fists and hitting blue on the arm.

he hears pink let out a small whimper followed by an “easy, tiger.”

yoongi knows who blue and pink are.

yoongi knows what blue and pink are.

in all his athleticism, he runs the rest of the way home, he’s gasping and afraid when he gets there, he’s been turning around to double check he’s not being followed the whole time.

his panting and heavy footsteps didn’t sound like his own, the echo in the silence of the night making it that much more ominous, every shadow could very well spell his end.

he rushes to get his keys out, dropping them on the floor, he curses loudly and swoops down to grab them but the door opens just as he’s about to press the key in.

“yoongi hyung, hi, welcome.” jungkook stands at the door, leaving space for yoongi to walk in but the older stands frozen in fear. “uhm, sorry, i know you’ve been avoiding me, well, i was avoiding you first so i guess i deserve that but i just wanted to apologize for that, which you don’t have to forgive me for. i should have stayed and made sure you were okay.”

yoongi interrupts in one breath before jungkook can keep going,  “it was just a papercut.”

looking sheepish, jungkook runs a hand through his hair. “yeah, it was, wasn’t it?”

yoongi manages to get his muscles to work, he walks into the apartment and lets jungkook close the door behind them.

if jungkook is a vampire, yoongi can’t let him know that he suspects it or this could all end badly.

“so, are we okay?” jungkook follows him into the kitchen.

“yeah.” yoongi sighs, pulling his coat closer to him. “uh, did you know i almost went into school for nursing because i don’t get squeamish around blood.”

“oh.” jungkook stays in the doorway of the kitchen.

“yup.” yoongi replies awkwardly.

there’s a mountain of homework on the table, the textbooks sitting all unopened. yoongi wonders if jungkook just sat here waiting for him to come back.

“do you want to hang out with me tomorrow?” jungkook rushes out.

a little voice in yoongi’s ear that sounds suspiciously like his best friend tells him to keep his friends close and vampires closer.

“sure but don’t you have a lot of homework?” his eyes trail to the papers on their table, jungkook follows his eyes and sighs. “we can hangout at the library? change the scenery.” yoongi suggests to which jungkook nods with a frown.

the frown stays on his face when he realizes yoongi is headed to his own room for the night. it feels like something remains unsaid but yoongi’s tired and the fear coursing through him plagues his mind, he just wants to be in bed, where he feels safe.

“night, jungkook-ah.” he throws over his shoulder, making his way down the hall, feeling less scared knowing he’ll be in his room soon.

not that a lock on the door could keep a vampire out anyway but it’s the thought that counts.

he shares everything with namjoon over coffee the next day.

“hyung, a vampire asked you out and you said yes?”

yoongi burns his tongue on his coffee. “ouch, fuck. joon-ah, we still don’t know if he’s a vampire or not.”

his best friend nods, he taps his finger against the side of his own coffee cup for a moment before his face lights up. that can only mean he has either a very smart idea or a very terrible one.

“i’ll push you in front of a car in front of him and we’ll see if he uses his enhanced speed and strength to save you!” namjoon exclaims.

so, terrible idea.

“no, absolutely not.”

“why not?” namjoon groans, “it’s a great idea and a good way to reveal his true nature!”

yoongi sighs, he puts a finger up. “well, for one, he might not risk showing his true form for me, and two, we don’t have enough substantial proof to put my life at risk.”

joon leans back in his seat, hands raised. “fine, we’ll play it safe then. just know it worked in twilight.”

“i was afraid that’s where you were getting your vampire knowledge.”

“hey! those movies are very knowledgeable.” namjoon argues, “back to the main point, wear silver and see if he flinches when he sees it.”

yoongi mulls that over.

it’s definitely safe and he does own silver jewelry.

so, he decides to do it.

he doesn’t wear his heavy and thick chain like namjoon suggested, saying it was the most noticeable.

instead he wears his silver earrings, hoping that’ll be enough.

he (and namjoon) weren’t expecting for jungkook to bound up to yoongi with a cute smile and compliment yoongi’s earrings right off the bat.

“th-thank you.” yoongi replies, a bit shocked, a lot relieved. “they’re silver.” he points out just to see if jungkook will react.

a dusting of red on the potential vampire’s cheeks and the smile turning shy, “cool.” the could be killer says.

yoongi gets a lot of studying done that night and he can breathe a lot easier. he proposes to make it a thing, them studying until finals are over.

jungkook agrees easily, that beautiful smile on his almost too beautiful face. yoongi side eyes him the rest of the night.

their next study date goes just as smoothly.

jungkook brings snacks and offers some to yoongi which presents him with the chance to put forth his next weapon.

a cross.

yoongi digs it out of his front pocket and closes his eyes, he’s pretty sure this is how one prays. or makes a wish, whatever.

‘if younger me could see me now.’ he thinks. ‘on an almost date with an almost vampire. he’d cream his pants.’

his thoughts are interrupted when jungkook questions him, “are you praying over your honey butter chips?”

yoongi opens one eye to see jungkook chewing on his own bag of chips, an incredulous look on his face.

“uhm.” yoongi replies, unsure what else to say. jungkook isn’t physically recoiling so that’s good. “sure, yes. wanna try?” he holds out the cross to jungkook.

the younger doesn’t take it which makes yoongi suspicious.

“my hands are dirty right now, hyung, i’m good. thank you for offering though.”

yoongi’s not sure now if this counts as a win.

on their next date that’s definitely not a date but yoongi hopes it’s something, he decides to be a little more upfront but in a subtle way.

“i gotta ask you a very serious question, kook-ah.” he says during one of their many study breaks.

jungkook sits up ramrod straight. “go ahead.” he always takes everything yoongi says so seriously, paying the utmost attention to him as if yoongi were sharing the secrets to the universe.

yoongi likes that.

maybe it’s because out of everyone and everything in this world, someone who could be a centuries old vampire chose to put their focus on yoongi.

he feels a bit special if he’s being honest, namjoon the twilight fanatic wishes it were him.

“okay, so, this might make or break us, so answer carefully.” a nod in response, yoongi takes a deep breath setting his plan in action. “team edward or team jacob?”

this leads to a full blown debate.

“edward left her in the second movie! jacob was the one to pick up the pieces, he deserved a chance.” jungkook argues.

arms crossed, yoongi tries to hold back a smile. “he left to protect bella, because he loves her that much!”

“at least jacob wasn’t always wanting to kill her every second they were together.”

this is yoongi’s opening to let the maybe vampire before him know he’s okay with the fact that jungkook could be thinking of murdering him anytime they’re together.

“well, it’s romantic, don’t you think? he has the urge to kill her but his love for her outweighs that, he could never hurt her because he just wants to have her with him.” yoongi sighs dreamily, not sure if this act is actually an act anymore.

jungkook is silent for a while, yoongi can feel his eyes on him.

“yeah, i guess that’s pretty romantic.” he concedes.

things change at their apartment too.

yoongi gets rid of all their garlic, unfortunately for his dinners he loves to make.

he buys wooden chopsticks to replace the silver ones he has too.

brings black out curtains to the apartment and makes a show of hanging them up in front of jungkook with a smile and a nod.

the younger one gives him a thumbs up and continues on with his assignments in front of him.

it’s been almost a month since yoongi’s tried to figure out if jungkook is an actual vampire, he’s always watching his teeth when he eats or drinks, waiting for the two front teeth to turn into fangs.

he has more dreams about those fangs sinking into his neck than he cares to admit.

“i did it, hyung.” jungkook interrupts yoongi’s thoughts about jungkook. “i took my last final today.” he smiles.

there are those teeth again.

yoongi sighs, he may never know what those teeth are capable of.

“-free time, so i was wondering if you wanted to go out on an actual date with me?”

and wait, was jungkook talking to him?

he looks around and realizes they’re alone in their shared apartment.

“one second.” yoongi jumps up, he dashes toward his room to retrieve a bottle that namjoon gave him weeks ago.

he runs back to their living room with the bottle opened and throws the contents onto jungkook.

“hyung, what the fuck?” jungkook shouts. “if you didn’t want to go out with me then you could have just said so.”

yoongi watches in fascination as jungkook doesn’t react to the holy water he’s doused in.

“yes.” yoongi smiles, elated to finally know the truth.

jungkook isn’t a vampire, he’s a normal man just like yoongi.

a normal very hot man that is taking off his very wet shirt right now.

a very half naked man that looks pissed off. oops.

“what the hell, hyung, why are you smiling like a maniac right now?”

yoongi has a lot of explaining to do before he can go on that date with jungkook.

“wait, you thought because of my lack of sleep and night routine that i was a vampire?” jungkook snorts.

yoongi gave him the basics of what was going on his mind.

he didn’t really want to go into detail about how he had tried many different times to prove jungkook was a vampire.

(he did however tell him about that night in the park. he came to find out that taehyung and jimin, pink and blue, enjoy making out at the park near their apartment and that for his own sake, yoongi should avoid walking through it at all costs. “some things are worse than vampires.” jungkook says seriously.)

in fact, vampire or mortal, yoongi likes jungkook just the way he is.

jungkook boldly grabs his hands across the table. “did you not at any point think to just ask me?”

looking away, yoongi shrugs. “you could’ve killed me if you didn’t want anyone to know.”

“i’m just an average college student.” jungkook shakes his head, never losing the smile on his face.

yoongi smiles back, tightening his grip on jungkook’s hand. “babe, you couldn’t be average if you tried.”

namjoon is happy but also a little disappointed when he receives the news.

they’re waiting on jungkook to join them.

namjoon’s hand is on his cheek, a dimple poking out. “you know, one of these days i’ll meet a real supernatural creature.”

“you still have many years, darling.” jin comforts him, kissing his cheek.

“who knows, maybe there’ll be one in the next class of students. don’t lose hope yet, joon-ah.” yoongi shrugs.

jungkook shows up at the door and namjoon gets up, he offers to stand in line with him to get coffee.

“look at them.” jin smiles. “how could you ever think that precious boy was a vampire?”

yoongi hides behind his hands. “you won’t ever let me live this down, will you?”

“no.” jin laughs then quiets down. “besides, if jungkook were a vampire then i would be the first to know.”

yoongi drops his hands and looks at jin with wide eyes. “what’d you say?”

shrugging, jin winks at him and doesn’t explain further.

“yoongi hyung, look how giant this cup of hot chocolate is!” jungkook exclaims bringing his tray to the table.

yoongi looks at him and then back at jin, jin is smiling at something namjoon is saying, there’s love and adoration in that look.

yoongi’s eyes go back to jungkook, he decides at that moment, in the way jungkook smiles, the way he looks back at yoongi, that it’s better not to know.
